    It didn’t work out with my Aprilia Tuareg 660, so I’ve bought a different bike...what am I thinking?
    Say hello to my KTM 790 Adventure R - It’s fun, quick and capable but is it reliable?
    Here are a few things I like and don't like about the Austrian orange pumpkin...
    Big shout out to Newcastle Motorcycles!
    Oh, and do Austrians yodel? Cheers for watching :D

      It was probably sold under agreement that there will be no press release on what actually happened…😝😝
      Let’s just say I would have waited a bit longer for a T7 to present itself rather than go with the Austrian.
      Probably their most reliable machine is the Indian Bajaj 390.
      All the rest are still with too many unresolved issues KTM expects their customers to solve for themselves…
      Keep on reporting Ol’ Chap 🍻🍻

      I own both bikes, nothin wrong with the Tuareg at all. Prob better brakes actually. It’s less horsepower but also a little lighter. They put the cat on front of engine which was stupid . It makes a lot of heat.

    Biggest piece of tech advise for this bike. Get the Twin Air from air filter and seal around the edges with grease for this bike. These air box on these suck dust BADLY with the stock filter. Even if you don’t plan on ever going off road I’d still do it.

    No more Tuareg oh dear what a shame. I hope it's a decent issue you had, you lot in the UK do like a good moan.
    Mine has been super fun to ride esp. after I modified it a bit here and there. I had the normal issue with the "oil leak from the weep hole" (of which I fixed myself - bought a new cover 30min job to change) just after 200kms, not to worry she's Italian after all. All good since then, hitting 10k kms shortly.

    Interesting that you bought the older model. While the newer model is of course more expensive, it's a decent improvement since it's basically a sleeved down 2023 890 adventure. The reliability isn't as bad as it seems, hardly any show stopping issues even without the tech it will still run. Most of the issues are small niggles that can be sorted at home. As for vibrations, I have an 890, there are defiantly vibrations starting at 4,000 rpm onwards. Pretty easy to feel. On the screen, you try the MRA vario touring, or just remove the wind deflectors (it removed the buffeting, but does mean more wind on the chest).

    Excellent choice, I went from the F700GS to the R1200GS then to the T7 and after two crashes at a standstill, to the KTM890 Adventure. And I'm delighted with the bike's handling and low center of gravity. I own a standard model, not R.
    I also know that the KTM is less reliable than the Anzani engine used by Blériot in 1909 to cross the English Channel, but no matter, this bike gives me a lot of pleasure and the engine is fantastic.

    I do like this channel.....I have had my 790r for a year and a half and it has kept me upright when I have had no right to to remain so. The electronics on a bike with this sort of grunt is a game changer for me. The CoG is amazing and feels lighter than my old Honda 250Rally and it is easier to pick up with that tank design than the Honda (yes I have put it down several times, I have a 29" in seam and well - you know gravity works at a stop and one foot is still no where near the ground). Wind buffering from the screen is horrendous, but a $15.00 diffuser makes a world of difference and road work is 100% better. I would ditch the panniers bulky and ugly. The look of the bike is subjective - And I like the look.

    Brilliant to see you on a bike again :) 👌sorry to hear about the Aprilia.
    It's interesting my dad an I are looking at doing something similar, I had a 300 rally Brilliant fun no longer trail riding an I'm back on a beemer in the form of a 1150gsa.
    2 years ago we had 2x ktm 390 advs which we loved but ended up rejected with issues, wheel/tyre problems (fixed those at our local tyre place) fly by wire issues an problems with both bikes displays filling with condensation) + other problems, got a refund had a gs 1200 for a while then jumped into the fire with a Himalayan an that ended up rejected as well with the dealer agreeing completely that the issues on it shouldn't have happened.
    My dad's been diagnosed with a prostate problem so been trying to sus out what bike to get him that's light n managable, to keep his mind off things I'm letting my blade go to fund him something to ride.(in the process of moving to Scotland the plan was to wait till after then before the docs stuff)
    Showed him the Hondas nx500 an transalp but he keeps harking back to the 390 n ktms so it looks like we are gonna look at the orange brand again 3rd times the charm hopefully.
    I reckon I could fix 80% of the issues we had with our 2x 390s bar the display problems.
    Didn't expect to look at them again but but Rally is to trail focused for him n the nx an transalp a bit on the heavy side.
    N I thought the 390 had the best balance of weight comfort fun n suspension that works for our needs just a shame at the time the tech n dealer prep let it down.
    If the 390 goes well again I'm quite curious to look at the bigger cc stuff Norden an 790s to spanner on myself just a shame they don't have a tool like the gs911 for the ktms :)
    Thanks for the vids really interesting an fun!

    • @Motoeuro
      @Motoeuro  6 месяцев назад +1

      Cheers for the comment :D it’s the age old issue; trail riding needs a lighter single, road work you’re better off with a twin IMHO, the 390 is actually a good bike and the new one looks ever better. If you’re doing big miles a twin would be better IHMO, but if you’re just getting out on a Sunday for a bit of fun anything will do the job.
      My clocks also fog-up, but I’ve asked my dealer to look into this as KTM used to replace them - apparently there is some kind of fix, but it only happens when the temp is low. Summer riding not really an issue.
      Best of luck to you both, cheers :D

Those fuel pods certainly make it an interesting proposition for me at least with a nerve injury much easier to move around spent a while pushing them around the showroom an stuff trying to set it off an I was ok with them :)
      Will be really interesting to see how you get on with the condensation :) if there is something that can be done to improve it similar to yourself we might end up looking at older ones budget wise of we buy before our move to D&g / Perthshire bike prices are getting eye watering latley for new stuff.
      An yep we are hoping to go to Norway which is leaning me towards the twins once we know whats happening with my dad's prostate after an mri so thatl influence the bike choice a fair bit.

      @@adaptableadventurerider Thanks for that :D Yes the fuel pod things are great - empty or full, you don’t even feel any weight difference. Much easier than pushing a top heavy, fully fuelled bike. Go for used, lots of low milage ones around and from a dealer you’ll get at least 6 months cover. All the best!

    If anything goes wrong with the Aprilia, which is bound to happen, it is Italian, you'll probably have difficulty getting spares quickly. The KTM may go wrong, but at least parts are readily available and delivery is quick (usually with a week).

    Hey there! Another awesome video man!
    I have a question :)
    Now that you have a 790, how does it compare in terms or PERCEIVED weight to the tuareg? I ask this because I am one of those that claims the 790/890/901 feel very lightweight, and I tried a tuareg the other day for 3 minutes and although it felt very good, it didnt strike as being AS good in camouflaging its weight as the 790/890/901... but I was left unsure. Whats your take on this?
    Cheers and happy rides!

    • @Motoeuro
      @Motoeuro  10 месяцев назад +2

      Great question! Both are heavy, I think the Aprilia carries it slightly better but to be really blunt, there’s not much in it. I like the KTM as when it goes over in the dirt those fuel tanks may prevent from falling flat, a little like the BM GS does with it's ‘pots’, therefore should be a little easier to pick up. The Aprilia will fall flat and damage a lot - faring, bars, plastics etc, the KTM’s tanks may prevent this? Cheers :D

    • @OFFroadOFFcourse
      @OFFroadOFFcourse 10 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for the quick answer! Yeah i agree... the 790/890 feels very immune to damages, considering the typical crash on a big adv bike happens at low speeds. Good points :) keep it up!

    To be fair it's not that much heavier than the Tuareg ... there's only about 10kg in it .... 790 Adv R approx 214kg wet weight ... Tuareg 660 approx 204kg wet weight (no luggage on either bike). The 790 carries it's weight fairly low too, I thought it would feel top heavy being quite a tall bike but having test ridden one I found that is a no - those low slung side tanks really work well .... the compromise is they look a bit funky though and ruin the front end aesthetics of the bike.

    My guess is that this was a business move. The views and clicks on the Taureg 660 were not at the necessary level to keep the checks rolling in. Switching to a KTM will immediately generate thousands (maybe even tens of thousands) of views and clicks and there will be more follow up videos that will also generate more views and clicks. That will result in more revenue.
