"All the work i have allready put into RUclips, has led me to recieveing this laser" Really good take on the sponsor culture of this platform. As always, great video! Love from Norway
thanks Jonathan! it's one of those things I never realised I wanted, a smoke machine. And then you start a youtube-channel and all of a sudden you have the weirdest things :)
As a creative person, I 110% get you. It can make pretty things for sure, but is it useful? What is the purpose? I actually had the same issue with my 3D printer. But I learned that, these machines are just more tools that can help us channel our creativity in many ways. It is not about the machine, it is about us, about our creativity, and about being human ^^ Great video, as the others!! Goog job :)
I used to manage an engraving shop that acquired a laser engraver that we mainly used to make name tags. It soon became obvious that we were underutilizing its capabilities so I began to experiment with it so It seems to me that you are on the right path. One of the most beautiful uses that I found was engraving on glass. We used Corel Draw to create the graphics so that we could use the layers feature which allowed us to create graphics of multiple laser settings for intricate designs. We found PET plastics to be one of the best materials to work with. I'm sure that you will enjoy your laser, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
Where a lazer really shines is in schools. When i was then 13 years old, i used to make things with it in school. It is very easy to design simple things (just draw lines), very safe to use (unlike a table saw or something) and fast so it can make things within one hour (unlike 3d printers). Did i make groundbreaking things? Not really but learned to design within a machines limitations and hey a plasmacutter or waterjet is not far off. Keep in mind it's the combination of tools that make extraordinary things. One thing you could use it for is engraving points where to drill, cut, ... keeps de measuring errors away.
I have the same problem. Too many lasers and no idea what to do with them. But one advice. Make sure to put anti freeze in the water and make sure not to run the laser when it's too cold or the glas tube will burst. I guess it gets cold I Sweden pretty soon.
Oh I did fill it up with a mix of anti freeze and distilled water luckily, but I think I will just empty it all out now so I dont risk anything, because your right - it will get might cold soon
People say the same about 3D printers, but it's so much more than that. It's a tool to enable you to make things. That is part of a bigger process. Also, I'd suggest making a filament drybox if you don't have one already, look for the RepKord Repbox. It's possible to laser cut from sheet acrylic!
That's the whole problem with lasers: they're tools that seem to open up new creative possibilities, but I don't see any results that would make me say "wow! I absolutely need this machine!" When you're looking for an idea to use a tool, it's usually pretty indicative of the tool's uselessness. Thanks for your videos, which I really enjoy 👍
Man, I love your videos . The way you're making the twist at the end and come to conclusion is great work. I can see the afford you put in every aspect of your work on the things you create and in the videos you make. Really great ! Thx and keep on with your work. I wish all the teachers were so inspiring!
After getting a laser cutter, I found beauty in how many 3D problems can be solved using 2D designs. And it's faster (both design and creation) than 3D printing. Omitting the glue-up drying :D
I have the same issue with my laser. I had about one really good idea. Batched out a bunch of company christmas ornaments and then... Its just sorta sat unplugged
I really like the philosophical aspect to your videos. It really sets you apart from other makers, and it provides great perspective on the whole process. Also, I had oil finished walnut tables for five years. Five years of coasters. Never again! I won't have another coaster in my life ever again!
I think many makers could think of plenty of uses for these. Like currently, my hammer is a 3d printer, and there are many mostly flat parts for various parts of projects that could be made faster with a laser. Im adding a small carvera air to my list of hammers but I still could see uses for these things. I think its more about having tools available when an idea strikes and knowing you can make it, more than trying to come up with an idea for a tool.
Lucky you! That’s an awesome machine! I remember when you used a diode laser for your leather goods. I believe you made very nice sunglass cases. It eventually inspired me to get my own laser for leather work. I am loving it!
I dont know if you edit your own videos but the production quality is gorgeous. I can sort of tell that you are out in a barn with old boards and rusty chains, but the lighting and maybe your lenses and post processing just make everything look incredible. When I take pictures in my shed it will never make people wish they worked there while listening to lo-fi and sipping coffee. Lol
I think it is a tool one needs to learn. And I am guessing that the use of it goes from structural to decorative. I don't know if this model can engrave metal. I love your videos and explorations in creativity! Lasers are pretty awesome, I have used mine for years in a very niche space of cutting/engraving papers for very bespoke playing card boxes and associated art. I can get details that would be impossible to do any other way, and elevate the craft above what you can do with hand work, printing or embossing. It's also a fun creative challenge, working with such a delicate and thin material.
i really like your wallets ;) i think the best usecase for woodworkers to have a laser is a: cut some templates and b: engrave some copper badges to brand your furniture
Anti-freeze in the water like on a car will sort the will keep the water from freezing. Btw things don't have to be extraordinary - usefull will do nicely.
I have been using lasers for a few years now and i understand where you're coming from , But i also do woodwork and im in the middle of remodeling my house and i have been using my C02 laser to engrave patterns on the trim around my doorways , It would definitely be good for doing the same on furniture
Very cool I don’t have a laser but I see where you can make some very helpful things and you see people making some cool stuff that they would never have been able to do before. Thanks for sharing
hi! cool laser you got there... for leather precut stitches use just 1 dimensional holes, more like just line cuts if possible. but depends how much material laser beam remove by itself. Goal is to remove as little material in precut sticthes as posible for longevity of the stitch.

I'd not knock the boxes and eva foam cutting myself - loads of times I've ended up having to make a huge mess manually cutting storage and packaging material, or the time I've spent at my table saw to make a box that doesn't need to be pretty for a workshop tool (though most of my custom fitted bits are modified steel stuff or cardboard). And if you ever want to ship your own products...
I struggle to build anything that isn't useful. It's why I love woodworking. I don't own a laser but I do a lot of CNC (which I suspect you'd love). I think that it's a mistake to go looking for stuff to make because unless you really are a nihilist who things putting Live Laugh Love on cheese boards is a useful contribution to society, the real value of these machines is that you can semi-spontaneously craft things that you actually do need. My 3D printer gets most of its use running prototypes of the enclosure that I intend to mill out of wood on the CNC. I frequently need jigs which I can use to hold shapes securely in 3D space on my CNC so that I can go back over jobs that need another 0.2mm taken off a particular edge. The key is to think of these tools as ways to rapidly solve other types of problems. For example, I have been tempted to use a laser to engrave labels on the enclosure of the product I'm designing, because it turns out that 0.1mm V-carve bits are a bit hit and miss. It's a juggling act. But yeah, powerful tool, just avoid looking for stuff to justify it. That stuff is basically guaranteed to be lame.
Wesley Treat has a video where he talks about the creative process of just trying things out without a particular end goal in mind. He calls it ‘dicking around’. Coincidentally, his video was also playing around with a laser.

Dude, try making a soap holder thar isn't skit. I.e doesnt take soap off from the soap like sanding paper and wont get mold even after 6 months unwashed
This video says one thing. I had to make a video for that laser company. This isn't your normal OH MY GOD LOOK WHAT I JUST MADE!!!! video. It looks a bit forced. But hey if it'll make you an owner of a great tool then good for you!
Deep down you knew all along that nothing truly good can from from looking at the world as a nail simply because someone gave you a really expensive hammer. Its no better than printing out a Spider Man bust, or a giant Benchy boat. Throw the plastic directly into the ocean and at least spare the electricity wasted on this instant trash.
I know where you’re coming from. I’ve bought many tools because they looked cool, only to have them take up shelf space and only see the light of day once a year (if ever). I’ve seen many people buy a tool in hopes of starting a business. Wrong! Start the business first then buy tools that enhance the process. Hang in there. You’ll figure it out.
I'd have to disagree on buying tools for your business idea - you can't actually start a business without the tools to make the products. The only tools for a business you may omit are the ones that are not at all essential to getting the products done.
Vendor: talk about our product SwedishMaker: you don't need it. Everyone else: ooh - pick me, pick me.... My diode laser could use an upgrade. You should start with a crappy product then upgrade. Like starting with an Ender 3 and then go to an A1. Then this laser would wow you!
Hey man, I noticed the lack of PPE while operating the laser. Please wear laser safety goggles. We only get 2 eyes, and even reflections from these lasers can blind you in an instant. Please stay safe.
You’re whining about him not wearing glasses when operating the laser with the lid clearly CLOSED? You do realise that, for CO2 wavelengths, the plastic lid of the laser itself will completely block any stray radiation?
And, with all the automatic features he's mentioned, I'm ready to bet it has automatic shut off if you open the lid. This isn't one of the 200$ open air crap you buy on Aliexpress. Or the 800$ wannabe knockoffs.
This is not a concern with these good quality enclosed machines. It absolutely _is_ a concern with those flimsy little open-gantry things that are all the rage at the moment.
Scandinavians seem to think the man bun is acceptable. This one doubles down on it and turns it into is logo. Its not just a hairstyle: Its a lifestyle. And that is precisely what is wrong with it.
Nice folding measure. SHAME I CAN'T BUY ONE HERE IN THE UK. Deep breaths....... Great video. As ever. I know what you mean about what you'd do with a laser. I guess ply wood tatt is equivalent to 3D printed dragons.

AND NOW WE JOUST!
immaculately timed meow.
glad you noticed
this made me think of the christmas tvshow "nissene på låven".. the swedes sent many written complaints about Bent continuing in the show and eventually winning.
haha :)
@@TheSwedishMaker it was the manic eyes and the barn theme that you topped with the red "lue" ahh.. u gave me a proper trip down memory lane. grymm laser;) har du sett hva amerikanern gjør med gravering og klassiske biler? kanskje du kan "pimpe" vertøyet ditt med den?
In the land of flatpack everything these crates are mostly used for shipping a whole house 😂
I’m eager for you to start an interpretive dance channel.
💎
The best bit 5 year old explanation - 😂Thanks.
You should build a 3d printer out of plywood. I'm sure that's never been done before... o.O
If you can’t find the extraordinary, just get something extra and ordinary.
😂
Actually you do need a laser, lasers are not just for Christmas ;)
I came here for a laser review. I stayed for the interpretive dance.
haha yeah about that dance...a lot of self hate looking at that in the edit
Så det är du som gjort skyltarna till samtliga barbershops i Malmö? :D
you never know 😂
where you need a bracket, you have a laser 😊
Damn im 4 and a half, i didnt understand a word.
Dude, try making a soap holder thar isn't skit. I.e doesnt take soap off from the soap like sanding paper and wont get mold even after 6 months unwashed
Could not agree more; lasercut plywood is the most boring thing.
Inlays…. Intricate inlays…
A strong laser ejaculation, essentially.
$7K TO $12K FOR A 150WATT DESKTOP LASER....😄 "ENGRAVER"?😂....
$22K+ FOR ONE WITH CASTERS?🤣...🤢.....🤮
It's a tool. If you ever want to get rid of it. I'll take it from you.
This video says one thing. I had to make a video for that laser company. This isn't your normal OH MY GOD LOOK WHAT I JUST MADE!!!! video. It looks a bit forced.
But hey if it'll make you an owner of a great tool then good for you!
Not quite a hostage video, but definitely an expression of a moral dilemma. Sometimes free stuff isn’t free.
Sell that car and buy a Volvo......
Try a tatto 😅
Har en CO2-laser själv men har inte testat 😬😎
Stop moaning man, it's 10 grand of high end laser, the Mira redline are some of the best you can get
Vendor: talk about our product
SwedishMaker: you don't need it.
@@imajeenyus42go use your brain and come up with something useful as a comment 😊
And, with all the automatic features he's mentioned, I'm ready to bet it has automatic shut off if you open the lid.
This isn't one of the 200$ open air crap you buy on Aliexpress. Or the 800$ wannabe knockoffs.
@imajeenyus42 Yes, the light you see would be the glow from what is burning when the laser hits it and not the actual laser.
This is not a concern with these good quality enclosed machines. It absolutely _is_ a concern with those flimsy little open-gantry things that are all the rage at the moment.
First
2nd. I win. 2 is bigger than 1
who cares
@@Tom-lu9gj Why so sad buddy?
Scandinavians seem to think the man bun is acceptable. This one doubles down on it and turns it into is logo. Its not just a hairstyle: Its a lifestyle.
And that is precisely what is wrong with it.
The 80s called and wants its restricted tell others how to live their life back.
Nice folding measure. SHAME I CAN'T BUY ONE HERE IN THE UK.
Deep breaths.......
Great video. As ever. I know what you mean about what you'd do with a laser. I guess ply wood tatt is equivalent to 3D printed dragons.
