Glad Layne is here. I was once on the camp of avoiding lots of foods and listening to folks like Saladino. It led me to a disastrous route that took me 2 years to recover from.
Same, I was following quacks like Eric Berg and Ken Berry for years until I started actually using my brain 😂.
One more here that followed non sense in the past but stoped after start to follow Layne, Aragon, Menno and others.
I feel ya guys . Shit will drive you nuts
Same, Layne was my first introduction to actual science 😂 has made my life a crap ton better.
For the algorithm

The greater good
This is why I follow you, Layne. The sincerity in your voice. You clearly care about being accurate and helping people. You're not just here to make money. Thank you for all you do!
Ipa's are delicious..it's like any other beer lol it takes time to actually enjoy them and the flavor profiles. While I agree stouts are the superior beer, hazy ipa's are up there.
Thanks Layne. So with you on IPAs. I have tried over and over, usually upon request of other people who say "this one is better." I take a sip and give them the look of "no it isn't."
I got sick doing highly restrictive carnivore and paid Saladino a small fortune trying to get help with feeling better because I was so far into disordered eating thanks to him, Bart Kay, ken berry, and Shawn Baker. I didn't get better until I stopped listening. Wish I could get that money back and see them all get some kind of comeuppance for their contributions to the toxicity of diet culture. Layne's book has gotten me on a much better track. I've lost more than 40 lbs since September and I'm chipping away at my food fears .
If it makes you feel better, most people go through a similar 'guru' phase of some sort (not necessarily with nutrition/fitness). Almost like a right of passage.
@@TheGreektrojan Yes, it's almost as if it's inevitable, like some sort of Dunning-Kruger quest that you have to complete in order to advance to the next level! Also, from what I've noticed, it's much worse for people who actually have some ailment or disease, especially if some health professional has failed them and/or some of the advice they've been given by charlatans, however ridiculous, seemed to have improved their condition, even if it was merely the result of the placebo effect.
Thanks for all you do Layne, keep up the great work!
Felt the emotion in this one. Thanks Doc, I've veey balanced in my nutrition thanks to you. Its exhausting worrying about every little detail in food.
Thanks Layne! Great videos and quite an important message and neccesary, in my humble opinion.
Keep doing your thing layne. From a guy that struggled with an eating disorder because of information given out by guys like Paul, I greatly appreciate what you do
Good job Layen, it is really seems like the era of misinformation and social media nonsense have a bad effects on a lot of people, and it's a shame that some one with your education and knowledge is not heard enough in the mainstream media. Hopefully this info and channel will get the exposure it deserves and needs. God bless you layne
Wow…this has to be the realest vid out there right now. I knew I subscribed for a reason. Thanks!
You deserve much more subscribers... Better than so called social media influencers of these days , who just spew bs for money and fame
Awsome work Layne
You’re Doing Gods work Layne. Keep fighting the good fight 👍👏
I was so close. Second. 😢
As a recovered orthorexic, I have sympathy for Paul. Used to follow him and now have to take so many supplements to heal from my ED.
But at the end of the day, he is a threat to himself and others and needs a lot of help.
As someone with an ED, this video helped me so much because Paul’s videos had the same impact on me and your videos have been the only thing to calm me down. Thank you truly ❤
Just waiting for the budlight comments. 😊
Agreed, Layne's choice in beer is A+ by me.
I suffer from Anorexia and was in a clinic for eating disorders some years ago and did pretty well there. I came back home and saw a lot of BS like stuff Paul Saladino is sharing and started to restrict food groups again... I do my best to recover now. Getting medical treatment and I use carbon diet coach to gain weight.
Thank you so much for debunking all this misinformation. 🙏
Well done, Layne 😊
Thanks Layne!
thanks for what you do
Another good take from Layne. IPA's are truely one of the worst alcoholic beverages
Well done!
Nicely done
Bravo, good work 👍
i was always concerned about this thanks for clarifying, let’s get on the beers
I didn't think I could agree with Layne's food and nutrition takes anymore until I heard his taste in beer. Dark beer for the win.
I would love to get your scientific take on gluten sensitivity. You made a comment a couple weeks back about they are not being much evidence for it. Could you do a video on that?
Well said Layne.
Well said dr. Layne
There are some good IPAs. The microbrewery/craft beer trend is really great for beer variety. But you should drink what you like. 🍻
Enjoying a cold one right now cheers 🍺
Thank you Layne, keep up the good work !!! IPA's do suck....
what the fitness Fridays are my favourite days
I literally just drank a Founders All Day Haze 10 minutes ago because Friday. It was delicious.
Well said
i love hops, i have loved hops for decades, even when overweight i have no chest. I am a sample size of one and this sample runs contrary to the claim
Layne, thanks for your take here. I am curious though - to what causes to do you primarily attribute the seemingly systemic drop in testosterone in men over the course of the past few decades?
Love your vids/work! Additionally youre very funny :D
Love you Layne
Thank you sir for your work. Must be tiring debunking stupid shit all the time 😅
💯 thank you
Have you had the schofferhofer grapefruit hefeweizen? It's very tasty.
Ipa's are indeed disgusting I appreciate the rant.
I appreciate even more that you call him out, it's so tiring to see people I care about around me being influenced by what Paul says.
And it's indirectly too, like the trainer of one of my friends basically recites Paul to my friend. And then he follows it because he's the trainer he pays.
And then I try to provide a counterpoint and he's open to it but he still only listens to what the trainer says who's parroting Saladino or Sally Norton I'm pretty sure they don't have this knowledge from their own research because he's just a trainer. Now my mate is on a high fruit high meat diet which is just a lot of sugar and protein I dunno how great that is for him but I can't talk him out of it.
I'm with you Layne; IPA's suck.
Going to play a drinking game where every time Layne says random human trials you take a shot. You learn a lot and get wasted very quickly. Love your content man
1:34 YES!
I (and I think Luke Tulloch) would politely disagree about IPAs, haha. I like them a lot! But I am from a part of Canada that only grows grains, wheat, and barley, so wild and experimental beer has been part of the culture for a while now, and I kind of grew up with it. But I am just really glad Layne is out here countering these myths and helping people feel comfortable drinking beer/wine/alcohol. Scaring and/or shaming people out of the things they enjoy, that increase social interaction, and make life fun, especially when the claims are exaggerated and dangerous, is not the way to help people make good choices. Thanks, Layne, for what you do!
IPAs are great, god dammit! But honestly, with the amount of beer of all sorts I've been drinking, my tits should be the size of watermellons by now.
Hell ya man. Stouts till I drop.
Layne are you saying we shouldn’t eat dry oatmeal or mix it in our shakes? You mentioned once it’s cooked it’s okay. I usually drink dry in shake, not cooked.
Please do a video of Bobby Flav city
Love Layne, love IPA 🍺. Cheers
I was thinking poor Paul at the exact same time you said it. He also says “hops” like McLovin
Good on you Layne for fighting the BS.
Layne is an animal!!! Love the content!
I agree! I’ll happily drink an ale.
I think I’ll choose an Indian pale ale ;)
Layne, I think you're confusing soy isolate with concentrate, and I don't think it's a slip of the tongue because I'm sure I've heard you do it before.
I haven't checked recently, but I'm relatively sure soy isolate doesn't have phytoestrogens or else by definition it wouldn't be isolate.
Going to make a video about sucralose breaking down dna?
Alcohol does hinder the t4 to t3 conversion in the liver which slows the production of androgens that oppose estrogen and also slows down the detoxification of estrogens in the bile. Plus alcohol increases gut permeability creating more endotoxin load on the liver which also slows down estrogen elimination.
How significant is all this? Mileage may vary. I can’t drink it really destabilizes me. I have a history of chronic eating disorder and anorexia growing up
Layne...Do a video about Soya beans
Ha!! I was thinking it right before you said it. The taste is the real reason to avoid IPAs.
Hey man where is your video on Tess holiday. Link me if you have one, and if you haven’t done one, why the hell not?
The only way that video could have been made any better is by Layne doing a mic drop at the end! 😂
What about hop water
Layne is correct about IPAs
I like to imagine a Layne Norton action figure with one catch phrase, and it's just "Human! Randomized! Control! Trials!"
I think we need a debate between you and @carnivoremd
I hate IPAs, too. You're now my hero. Also, for the algorithmmmmmm.
I enjoy a nice stout, or porter. Many times.
Lol I rarely drink alcohol but I enjoy a nice hoppy ale
Kombucha beer...try it!
You need to write a song called “Human Randomised Control Trials”
This is why I only drink whiskey. Nothing beats a glass of Yamazaki 12 year-old Single Malt with ice.
IPAs are ale. India Pale Ale. Not for everyone but I love IPAs, I really like the hoppiness personally but I quit drinking so no more IPAs for me. Keep up the greatcontent Layne, I know you will
Just when I thought I couldn’t love this channel more… I cannot do IPA
Love a couple of beers after a hard days work.
Al Gore Rhythm
Thanks for this every Friday. Helps me feel not completely insane.
Paul Saladino is in the hall of fame of what the fitness.
Good news. I was afraid beer was killing my gains. I have heard that alcohol disrupts protein synthesis. I kinda doubt that is true though. I usually drink about 3 beers at least every other day. I am still building muscle at 58 years old.
Layne isn't talking about muscle protein synthesis in this video. I'm pretty sure that claim is legit and science based, and I think layne has talked about it in a video. Again, anything in moderation though.
@Nathan Vanderpool Yes, I watched the video. I think it is best not to drink but, a beer sure is nice after a hard day.
Any form of ale, you say? Even INDIA PALE?
Please keep talking about Paul
This content needs to go viral to the extent that no one ever watches Paul's content again
Haha! If it’s Bud light, then yes! 😆
2-3 beers per sitting. What I'm hearing is you must stand up every 2-3 beers. Lol
FTA
For the algorithm and for the stout!
IPA's are delicious 😋.
OMG, thank you! I read the tag and thought, WTF? Being perimenopausal my first reaction was, hand me the beer😂 And yes, darker the better! I spend a ridiculous amount of time on socials pointing out to my friends that the "health" information they have posted is snake oil. I'm that annoying friend who tries to point out the science. I'm only a 4th year psychology student but I'm going to be trying to correct people's thinking in the future, and some of the info out there is just scary! So again, thank you, and please keep ranting! I love a good rant that comes from a place of caring❤
Just when I think this channel cant get any better, Lane reveals that he too hates IPAs.
> You must be an alcoholic then, Paul
SAVAGE 😂😂😂
> a nice stout
OH YES
It's in everything we eat and drink doesn't just stop with beer
Gonna celebrate with a few beers
Layne, please do a Dr. Rhonda Patrick take down.
I drink 6-10 beers a week and on trt. My estrogen is always on the lower end of spectrum. Never over 50 ng/dl without an ai
For the algorithm!
My man! Yes, ANYTHING but an IPA!
Alcohol is bad at any dose. It does not mean one should not enjoy a drink because life is also about pleasure. But still, it does not change the fact that the body treat ethanol has a toxic compound and the liver will have to work to eliminate it. This video can be misinterpreted since most people always love to find justification to their bad habits. 😂
💯
I don't get all the fear of phytoestrogens.. I mean: plant nutrients have 'poor bioavailability' anyways right? 🤣
