more and more hill tops near where i live are becoming lost to housing developments. horizons that were once open to all who cared to look, are becoming fenced off and greedily 'owned', so that only those who can afford those properties now have access to those vistas and horizons. there is a need and a craving in some people for far horizons, and being denied access to them almost feels the same as being imprisoned. properties should not be allowed to swallow up horizons into private ownership. to me, having access to far views is just as important as having access to public parks, many of which these days have degenerated into mere stretches of grass with a few trees dotted about to break up the monotony.

Apparently edward thomas was not killed by a shell blast leaving his body untouched as was told to his widow to protect her - he was killed by a bullet

I worship the European landscapes, from Britain to the end of Europe at Ural Mountains and from Scandinavia to Mediterranean sea.Europe is indeed the most soothingly pretty Earth's mainland. The fairytale -like landscape of England and Scotland is matchless and those who dwell in it ought to keep it unmarred by utterly unfitting buildings as American-style sky-scrapers and Asian Mosques...
