It is creepy indeed. Some funky old rock music, you wear actually real pants and you want to walk or ride bikes on Sundays. NALF gets more and more German.
Those boxes are for winter grit. That's what gets put on the streets and the pavements in winter, when its really icy. Grit is a mixture of fine gravel and salt. It helps melt the snow and ice, somewhat, but more importantly stops you from slipping. You find them all over in the cold countries of Europe. Even in the middle of London!
Sometimes, e.g. in Munich, such boxes are also used by the post office as a storage for their delivery guys. The van brings the mail in bulk and the single delivery guys pick their loads up from such boxes. Normally it is sand or gravel for winter

I just bought my first bike as an adult this year and it had to be an e-bike cuz I live in Bergischem Land. Today I saw a 10 year old girl pushing her bike up our street. She tried to get on going uphill and couldn't manage it. It's just too freaking hilly here. I actually go to the post office and Aldi with my bike, rather than taking the bus. I caught myself going 50kph once and slowed right down - e-bikes can be dangerous, something I learned working in the ER. My first day riding my bike, I was surprised to discover that dogs don't care about bikes nearly as much as they care about horses. Hrmph. nice music selection! As you already mentioned schwäbisch Hall is hilly. so to encounter glaze the container will contain gritting material. The colored stones you saw are there as symbols to encourage people to endure and fight against corona.
The term ‚Hall’ is actually in numerous of places in the German speaking area, like Halle an der Saale, Bad Reichenhall, Hallstatt, Hallein, Hall, Halltal or the island Hallig! ‚Hall’ is either from or a mixture of Celtic, Slavic and Germanic... or even Middle High German and indicates that at this place, there were salt mines or salines in times people settled there

But please clean the upper left corner of your lens. There's a stain that I just can't oversee.
Now you're doing it, too. Sigh.
@@mojojim6458 I'm not in the mood for a deep analysis right now, so yep.
The water segment starting at about 4:25...what's he doing there? Especially at the end of the segment?
@@mojojim6458 As I said, I'm not in the mood for deep-thinking, so my answer is: he's probably using his supernatural super powers to make the water flow upwards into the pipe. It's real. No camera or editing skills involved.
@@LenaGresser That's okay. I'll ask him.
I am not from Germany but I am pretty sure those "things" are containers with deicing salt for winter.
I might be wrong because there is a lock on it .... it is not like people will steal the salt.
It's grit, not salt.
People steal everything.
The lock is on because the inside stuff belongs to the city of SH and is only to be used by the employees of the city in winter times.
We're painting rocks here, too. Pinterest has tons of examples.
NALF got some new songs.... Nice 👌
4:03 Hillish Hall, Schwäbisch Hill, Stairish Hall - no excuses man sounds for me like stairish ill
Stairish Hill
NALF, great soundtrack (you stole from your parents generation, I'm a bit older than your eltern, as I went to UW in the late 70's...)
My first impression of the boxes was that they were bollards, but seeing the lock on one made me think of dual purpose, storage... I've read other comments and now know about sand/salt, now I wonder if they are to work as bollards or not...
Hallo auf Castro Valley.
Re: bike, find one that has under-drive, gear ratio lower than 1:1, cars extol overdrive, most bikes only go down as far as 1:1, I use a Cannondale Quick 4, the low gears help on some streets of San Francisco (and BART helps me get there from Castro Valley) - wear BRIGHT clothing when biking - you want drivers to notice you...
I never thought it could be that peaceful there. Wow. I thought thoose containers might be for the trash or something. Great video though.
Soon: No.1 painting rocks channel on RUclips
He *should* paint one and add it to the line!😊
considering your music choices for this video I thought for a second that you discovered the crazy/wonderful world of "Glee" XDD
those grey stuff on the streets contain salt for the no longer existing winter. it is from past times long ago when we had winter in europe
It's grit, not salt.
These things are used for the salt which the use to make the street non slippery in the winter.
nice music selection!
‚Hall’ is either from or a mixture of Celtic, Slavic and Germanic... or even Middle High German and indicates that at this place, there were salt mines or salines in times people settled there
This video was short and sweet like Schoko Bons. I don’t know why so many people were meckering around. It must be cabin fever. Happy Sunday. Stay safe.
As Wise Owl said, great music!
I am getting old, help me out, what was the first song, Fisher-Z? And what was the title?
Thumps up for that and the vlog style. Well done.
And, also as this wise Wise Owl said, those are grit container (you know, in case there might be a real winter at one time again. The local winter service takes the grit from those and sprinkles it all over the ground to protect the pedestrians from falling on ice).
I was thinking about to write something teasing, like "scared snowflake" regarding your mannequin comment. Then I thought, nah, not today. And later you even took the words out of my mouth ("out of shape") … how mean is that, especially when I am in a nice mood. Now I thinking about to leave angry mumbeling like a real germ. Just can't, this one was to good.
Haha, nice comment. 😄
First Song is Pete Townshend

@@user-bj2lu9qt3o Thank you very much!
Would have been a terrible sleepless night. Shame on me, so. Ofcourse it is Pete Townsend. Please don't send me to a nursing home.
@@raythevagabond3724 To the nursing home! Right away! ☝️🤨 😉
The
boxes are probably for underground utility maintenance, not large
enough for road salt.
Van Halen and Maxwell Jump - you’re having way too much fun now!
I think Sweet Caroline is timeless...but then again, I would...
Your journal entries are getting kinda meta dude.
I’m pretty sure you said you’re banned from operating two wheeled things by the Unicorns.
Will be interesting to see you on one of those old folks tricycles
Yes, he said that! So I was surprised he came up with this exact idea, even though I like it very much. But you may be right with the tricycle though 🤦.....
On my bucketlist:
Go to Schwäbisch Hall and experience Nalf set up and execute a shot/scene like the one at 3:01 from afar
love your choice of music!
I was vacuuming my floors this fine Sunday, and started thinking about the whole noise/disturbance laws in Germany. I was also recalling that I heard that vacuum cleaners have noise purposefully generated in their products for whatever reason. It got me to wondering why these manufacturers haven't figured out that a low-noise model might sell well in places like Germany. Maybe these have already been created and marketed in Germany already? I don't know.
I also love Neil Diamond...Great taste of music🤘
Dude we have to meet up! Just nice to see more Americans like myself here in Germany.
It's like you found all this music and threw it in this Video, just to have some background sound... Don't get me wrong, I really like the music.... But sometimes less is more :)
But you have brighten up my day anyway
Less whoopie music is always better.
They had realistic mannequins in the US when I was a kid. They were creepy too.
...and Australia. Also creepy. They are still in the windows of struggling fourth-generation clothing stores in really small old country towns. Usually with a nose or brow badly chipped. Or worse, one blank eye.
I've seen every single one of your videos (Twice😅) This is secretly one of your greatest and I stand by that! 😁 Also: Exquisit choice of music
Get yourself a fit bike riding Fräulein.
Like the one here ruclips.net/video/-7F7rkbJ6Vc/видео.html ?
TheBlackiwid pretty much, yeah.. until recent years, we didn’t have a concept like „dating“. You meet. If you like it, you meet more often. We don’t ring so many bells about it.
@@raythevagabond3724 Now that's a good one, too. Didn't knew that channel before.....
Must be a local thing, haven't seen creepy mannequins here in Bavaria 😂😂😂 By the way, editing is on point! Love your videos
Solid music choice this time dude!! :D
I think they store salt in those grey containers to be used in the winter to handle icy walkways
Hi ! You askey what the black boxes were all over town! The city puts them there and they are filled with salt or sand so if streets or footpaths were icy in winter they v workers put salt or sand on Streets so people dont fall and ice melts! So its a fast and efficient way to store it in boxes and use it quickly where needed! Like your videos keep it up!Greeti ngs from Stuttgart!!!
The Hall in Schwäbisch Hall comes from salt production that was there in earlier times
The gray boxes are full of sand.
I believe those containers are sand bins. The sand gets scattered around by workers when it's icy.
Do you participate in any of the town community events or groups? Volunteer? What do the residents of Schwabisch Hall do? Do you go to church? Community theater? Does the town have any historical significance? Any old buildings?
Schwäbisch-Hill... Stairish-Hall 🤣🤣🤣👍👍
Stairish-Hell actually.
The boxes are for temporary storage of tourists until the next winter..
Thanks. Big smile.
So dressed up 👏🏻
Chic...and strange.😄
It’s Sunday after all. Let’s just leave it at that 🤫
Yeah, bike-riding! I wrote that'll be your next challenge in your having-a-walk-video 🤪! Just do it, it's so much fun. It'll widen your radius and horizon, just ride out of town, explore new ways and get different perspectives 😀. But get a bike with 21 gears for all the hills that might get in your way, 7 gears isn't enough for that 😁. Impatiently awaiting that video 😉!
btw - looking good properly dressed again, good start to find a german girl friend......
Surely you're not saying that German girls are interested only in appearances.
Certainly not, Mojo Jim. Being dressed properly is just a minimum basic requirement 😉🤷.
@@ca9603 yes bike riding is great! Since Corona I'm doing it daily and it's such a wonderful feeling of freedom and fun! (Especially if you're a person like him that doesn't like to be near people that much.)
You need a proper one though, yes.
Hey Nalf, drive up to Koblenz and get yourself a nice Canyon Grail gravelbike!
Haben vor 2 Wochen ein Canyon nach CH bestellt, war fix da. Sohn hat viel Freude daran. 🚲 👍
i liked the vid and looooved the music. your humor gets me everytime :D
