MRCP/MRCS or any Membership exam doesn't grant you specialist registration. The registration is only as a registered medical practitioner, equivalent to what one gets through PLAB.
To become a specialist in UK, it's a totally different pathway!

You either apply for training , at IMT or ST3/4 level and then write SCE exams during your training, which makes you a consultant at the end of your specialist training!
Or do all your exams outside training, while working in non training jobs for usually minimum of 6 years, and then present evidence saying you've passed all exams, done the required research, QIP, audits, mandatory courses etc. and ask for equivalence!

It depends on specialty. Training varies from 6-8 years!
You don't need to pay anything to anyone, you'll be paid a monthly salary.

Hello, I am currently negotiating MD Internal Medicine in India and will complete it in one year. If I happen to clear the MRCP along with it or after it and I get myself through IELTS, EPIC and GMC, will I be at the ST3 level ? or ST1 ?. For example if I want to become a cardiologist, how many years will it take ? ST1 to ST8 or ST3 to ST8 ? Or is there another path altogether which I am missing ?

@JAYESH MATHUR Yes, so basically we can apply for a job at any level i.e. Registrar ( Like SR in India ) or SHO (Like post intern / JR-1 in India) if you want to take things slowly and get used to the system. Registrar is more suitable but comes with responsibilities and a new system so risky if you are new to NHS. You will not get speciality immediately. Will need to work 1.5-4 years (Need experience in your department of choice, also get a core-competency form signed to show you are as good as their internal medicine trainee, build CV, do publications, presentations, conferences etc. etc.) depending on how you take things, which speciality etc. to get into ST3/4 training ( Like DM in India ), So its is then ST4-ST8 ( 5 years ). So total post MD it will take anywhere from 7-10 years on an average.

If you get GMC Registration done you are will to any other british doctors as of now, so you can complete and get into any training you want.. even otherwise if you get any sponsorship for your fellowship from any of the universities, you can do fellowship even without GMC registration. I don't know how to get the sponsorship though..
