I’ve just had a look at the application programme and then somehow your video popped up in Google ;) thank you so much again, and I hope you have a lovely day xxx
hi!! coming here many years after hoping you could answer a few questions for me, as a french medical student wanting to move to the uk at the end of my studies 🥺
If you have some time, can you make a video explaining to us the meaning of the different jobs in England? I heard many terms which were confusing to me honestly like FY1 and 2, SHO, CMT, ST, service jobs and training jobs... Etc?
I'm Frenchman from northern France. I feel no connection whatsoever to this place of its people. I still have two more years to go as a junior Doctor in GP, and then I'll be free to move away. I quite recently discovered Scotland, and realized that I absolutely love it there. So, when I'll be done with the last two training years, how shall I proceed with my Belgian Degreed ? Should I just send it to GMC, prepare for IELTS, and the apply for the visa ?
Can you please make a video on reinstating license to practise after a doctor took a sabbatical and voluntarily relinquishing license to practise while keeping the GMC registration and paying annually for this. Would be immensely helpful if you please also let us know about any issues faced by any past doctors regarding this matter. Many many thanks in advance
Hi, thank you for this video! I'm going to graduate in Italy at the beginning of 2020 and would like to continue my training in the UK. Still I'm uncertain of what to do next: should I get first a license in Italy or should I apply for the FP? Thanks :D
The Junior Doctor thanks for your help,my other question is that if I do my one year internship in Africa ,I can just do the step 2 and after I clear it I can work directly as a pg1 rather a first year registrar?

Thank you! I was waiting for this video. I have two questions, I hope you can answer me: 1) Is it recommended to do a pre-graduate experience in UK to increase your chance to get in Foundation Programme? 2) Is it easy for a IMG to access in specialty?
Hi! Any prior experience doesn’t count towards a place in the foundation programme. It’s a point system with points given for academic performance and published papers etc I’m not so sure about IMG and access to specialities. It depends on your portfolio and audits and general interest into the speciality. You won’t be penalised for being a IMG
How is the process of becoming a fully credentialed & licensed UK physician different for experienced doctors coming from the United States seeking locum practice opportunities?
Hi Derrick. The process of applying and gaining GMC licence is the same (will likely not require to do a language assessment). Once a full GMC licence is obtained the doctor can do locum shifts. It is best to speak to the GMC directly for the most up to date information
Thank you; since I’ve completed 4 years post-graduate training I presume the vetting process to licensure via the GMC will not be too onerous. Also, I have 20+ years of medical practice expertise in California.
Thank you so much, can you give us more informations about how CAN a specialist doctor (oncologist) who studied outside the UE practice medecine in the UK
Hi Abbas. As I said I don’t have anymore information that what I provided in the video. However you need to start off by getting your GMC licence before looking into practising medicine in the UK
As far as I know, (have researched and asked GMC for my specialist friends, you do not need to take the plab test. Just ielts and apply for equivalence with all the documents they will need to see if you are equally qualified for uk specs of the same specialty. It takes 6-9 months just for the assessment. But as The Junior Doctor said, just start with opening a GMC account and start your GMC registration application. Good luck!

@@mbg2642 you will need to sit the PLAB exam and most likely an English language exam to obtain a licence to practice as a doctor in the UK. the GMC website which I've linked in the description will give you more information on this

great to hear she wants to do medicine. If there are language issues she may be asked to sit the IELTS to prove her English language is adequate. Medical school ranges from 5 to 6 years. A UK entrant will apply for medicine through a website called the UCAS (deadline is early October) - theyre expected to write a personal statement and do entrance exams before being called for an interview . However I don't know how this process differs for international applicants - I'ts best to ask a few universities directly and they can tell you the best route. Won't it be expensive to fly to the UK just for one exam...Is there any alternative to flying there since the UK is quite far from here.Like an online examination.Pls answer this for me.
As far as I’m aware, Manchester is the only place you can sit the PLAB exam. Travelling is something all candidates needs to do so I’m afraid there is no alternative
I have a question about the requirements to sit for the plab exam, like I know we need to complete the medicine, but in different countries the certificate issued will be different so, what should it contain to sit for the plab examination.
Thank you really helpful video 🙏🏻 I had finished my MBBS bachelor degree and my internship year in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, now as I understand: 1- GMC 2- IELTS 3- PALP (part1 MCQ, part2 OSCE) 4- Foundation Years (1,2) 5- SOH 6- Training Program Am I right?
Correct up to option 4. If you’ve done your internship year, you don’t need to do FY1 you can go into FY2 which is also another name for SHO. Once you’ve got enough experience in the NHS you can apply for a training programme
@@DrEzgiOzcan Thank you so much for this video, I also wanted to ask.. 1. how do I apply for SHO? 2. what's the duration of SHO, before I can get into traning?
please make a video of about what level an IMG can apply after clearing MRCP1,2,PACES...I have done my degree in 2015..and doing a job after it in india.....IS it at ST 1 OR ST3 LEVEL? Also how can i get an ALS certificate here in INDIA
When you enter a speciality it'll be at ST1 level unless you have extensive prior training elsewhere making you a registrar at which point there may be scope to enter at a higher level but less likely. Your ALS would need to be approved by the RESUS council, therefore I'm not sure that the qualification from India is recognised in the UK but you'd need to double check this
Hi... I appreciate the content of your video. Thanks. Hope you're doing well and great especially during this pandemic period. Please be well and stay safe... I just graduated this year from medical university in belarus and I want to do an internship program before coming to UK. I want to know when an IMG is supposed to apply to GMC. Should I apply immediately after graduation or during the course of my internship program?
It depends if you’re still in training or fully qualified as a consultant. You’d still need to go through the same process with PLAB and IELTS before applying for your GMC licence
I have completed my mbbs degree 2years back in India and I would like to do md pathology in uk. What must I do? Do I need to do core training or fy2 for the same?
I just got a band 8 in IELTS. I’m an IMG doing internship in India. I will write PLAB before finishing my internship here. I want to know if I’ll get paid for my FYs in UK, and if I can apply for postgraduate courses immediately after GMC licence. And what is the procedure to get the FY1 scrapped off, so that I can join directly in the FY2 after internship.
Hi Aditya, if you have an internship technically you can go straight into FY2, however thats a decision the GMA will make you get paid for your foundation years
The Junior Doctor- 1. Do I need to finish my FY2 before applying for a postgraduate course (Eg- Internal Medicine) or can I directly apply for the same after my PLAB 2 results? 2. Also, is it compulsory to work in the UK for a specific period before applying for a postgraduate course. 3. Can I get into FY2 or work as an SHO or GP after PLAB 1 without PLAB 2?
1. Not always but you would be expected to work in the NHS for at least 1-2 years to understand how the NHS works. 2. There isn’t a specific time but you are expected to have worked in the NHS before you get into a training programme. 3. You’ll need both parts of PLAB to get a GMC licence. And you can’t work unless you’ve got a licence. You’d be able to work in a hospital but not a GP (you need to be a GP trainee or be a qualified GP to work in a GP practice)
Hello, i am Mod , this is great video and you are very kind to answer all the question here, i have question, i graduated ophthalmology resident in Laos PDR ( South East Asia) how can i work as ophthalmologist in England ? what route would you recommend, thank you every much
Hi ☺️ the first step would be to get your GMC licence and apply for the ophthalmology training programme. You may want to work as a locus for the first years to adjust to the system and male contacts with people. Ophthalmology training posts are limited on the UK but I’m not 100% of the exact route. It’s best to ask on some of the forums I’ve linked in the video ☺️

I’m a graduate from syria aleppo but i am british i have a british passport and i wanna be cadrio surgeon what steps should i do to start my specialization in the uk?
Hi. As discussed in the video you will need to gain your GMC licence first then apply for core surgical training programme which would lead to specialisation in cardiothoracic surgery
hello! great video as it was very helpful. However, i am a little confused with PLAB, INTERNSHIP AND THE FOUNDATION YEAR. I'm an international student in Europe and almost about to graduate medical school. 1) I'm aware i would need to take the IELTS exam first but do i need to write the PLAB EXAM before doing my internship as i would love to do my internship and practice in the UK. 2) Are the terms internship and Foundation year the same thing?
Internship and foundation year are the same thing. You dont need to do internship to do the Plab exam. But have one year of internship elsewhere as it will help you get into fy2 straight away. Theres more info on my channel ! Hope this helps
Hello, I want a ask something. I didnt quiet get the idea of internship, for example, I've just graduated from an pakistani medical university and now I have got an MBBS degree, so now I will have to work in hospitals of Pakistan for some time and get a letter to show my work expierence to Gmc, is that internship?
Thank you so much for this video. It really helped a lot. I've just started my 5th year (my 6th year will be my intern year I'm assuming) so when should I apply to do the IELTS? Also, what about sitting SJT? I remember you made a video about Oriel and on that page it talks about the SJT. I'm British studying in an EU country.
SJT is used to place you in a foundation programme . So after you’ve gotten your provisional license to practice, you will need to complete an application through oriel, where your medical school decile score would be included I.e how you ranked in school, that score will now be added to your SJT score to place you in the foundation school . Also be aware that if you’d been out of medical school for more than two years you would need to do a clinical assessment as well
How to do general medicine post graduation in uk ? Do i need to write plab as i am an international medical graduate..if i pass plab what all universities i can choose from ?
once you get your gmc licence and have the right to practice as a doctor in the UK you can apply for a training programme called IMT which can lead to many other specialties. these training programme are run by the hospital not universities. hope that makes sense

Correct up to option 4. If you’ve done your internship year, you don’t need to do FY1 you can go into FY2 which is also another name for SHO.
Once you’ve got enough experience in the NHS you can apply for a training programme

Thank you so much for this video,
I also wanted to ask..
1. how do I apply for SHO?
2. what's the duration of SHO, before I can get into traning?
please make a video of about what level an IMG can apply after clearing MRCP1,2,PACES...I have done my degree in 2015..and doing a job after it in india.....IS it at ST 1 OR ST3 LEVEL?
Is there a way for a urosurgeon from India to work in UK as urosurgeon?
It depends if you’re still in training or fully qualified as a consultant. You’d still need to go through the same process with PLAB and IELTS before applying for your GMC licence
hi do i can do the internship in a private hospital ??
Possibly. I wouldn’t know 100%. It’s best to check with the GMC
Hi
I am going to year 10 next year ; I want to become a doctor but I am confused about what subjects shall I take . Any suggestions???
Hi. Often science and mathematics are what’s needed. You can read individual universities admission requirements to see what subjects you should take
How long does this application process take? From the application to getting a license and be ready to find a job?
There is no set time but I think on average takes about 6 months to get through everything but it’s different for everyone
Will be my specialisation in general/trauma surgery accepted if I am not from the UK?
I have completed my mbbs degree 2years back in India and I would like to do md pathology in uk. What must I do? Do I need to do core training or fy2 for the same?
Hello ma'am,
I'm doing my M.B.B.S. right now. Do you mind helping me?
How difficult is getting a job after clearing plab 2 as of now ?
Hi. Thats not a question i could answer sorry. There are still the same amount of position if not more compared to pre pandemic.
Hi Aditya, if you have an internship technically you can go straight into FY2, however thats a decision the GMA will make
you get paid for your foundation years
The Junior Doctor-
It’s best to ask on some of the forums I’ve linked in the video ☺️
hai,if i couldnt pass mci exam what is the next scope for me?please say.
How to become a nurosurgon in UK. I am final year medical student . With low economic back ground. What are the exams I have write to become a nurosurgon. What is the pathway??
Please tell me
Start by learning how to spell your speciality right!
Junior Doc, Please are foreign medical graduates able to enter into core surgical training????????
Thank you
Yes they are once they get their GMC licence
@@DrEzgiOzcan Thank you very much, I appreciate it.
@@DrEzgiOzcan Would it be difficult?
So helpful👍
Hi during an internship do we earn enought to get by in uk
We don’t have internships. Do you mean FY1?
@@DrEzgiOzcan yes
Yes you earn enough to get by.
hello! great video as it was very helpful.
I'm an Indian and am thinking to do my medical schooling from Italy. So will I have to give PLAB for specialization in UK?
Yes you’ll need to do the PLAB before you can get a GMC licence
Internship in home country - do they accept rotations in subspecialties (like pediatrics) under general medicine and (orthopedics) under surgery)?
Yes they do you can confirm that in the GMC web site or check road to the uk channel
@@besssboussa7679 thanks!
Do I need to complete medical school from UK for getting into FY1 ?
no, if you want to start at FY1 level in the UK you need to obtain a provisional GMC licence and apply to the programme
So if my faculty education is in english, I don't have to give IELTS/OET right?
Unlikely you’ll need to do the test but you’ll still need to check with the gmc to be sure
Hi! I’m not 100% myself so I’d say check the info online or email the advisors 😊
