  • Let’s talk about Accutane! The drug, also known as isotretinoin, has a number of side effects to take into consideration before starting. In this video I am sharing everything I have learned while taking it and what I wish I knew before starting Accutane.

100% worth it for me. I took it when I was 16 and had terrible acne. All of the side effects you mentioned, I dealt with. The worst were the nose bleeds, the DRY LIPS, oh and I was SO IRRITABLE. Nonetheless, it was worth it. I rarely get acne as a 25 year old, with the occasional breakout of maybe two or three little zits, but nothing severe at all.

I've been dealing with acne on my face, chest and back for 7 years now and my dermatologist recommended accutane to me and I'll be honest my biggest fear is the hair thinning because it stays with you after you finish the treatment. And my favorite feature about myself to me atleast is my hair.

accutane caused telogen effluvium hair loss for me in month 2, on a low dose. Its been 6 months since i quit early (when hair came out in huge amounts) and my hairs 50% THINNER and my crown and temples are very thin and scalp shows.
I am waiting to see a 2nd derm but the first said it may or may not be PERMENENT. Going on accutane was the biggest regret of my life. It also messed up my eyes and gave me dry eye disease

Hi there! Really nice video. I've also been on isotretinoin for 2 months now. My hair used to be extremely greasy but now you can barely see any difference between wash times. I also experience the joint pain of an 80 year old lmao

    Keep up the good work!

    • @theultijim

@@SardineNipplesXX Hi there! I've been taking 70 mg of isotretinoin and I'm about 70 kilos, so my dosage may have different effects than yours. To answer your question, I personally have not experienced any hair loss on my head. However, my hands look like they're completely shaven. The treatment really irritates the skin and for some reason especially the hands, from what I can tell it dried out the surface so much that hair couldn't grow on it. I definitely recommend using moisturizer/lip balm and drinking lots of water.
A friend of mine who was on isotretinoin (on a lower dosage) did experience hair loss, so my best advice to you is start with your recommended dosage and see if it has any negative effects on your hair. I wouldn't worry about it too much though, the chance that you'll get hairloss from isotretinoin is very low.
The treatment can be intimidating at first but I can confidently say that even though sometimes I get tired of my dry skin, I very much prefer it over acne. Good luck with your treatment!

I had severe acne through my entire teen years and into my early 20s. I met a number of dermatologists that never asked me about my diet but were quick to put me on medication that did not work. One dr prescribed accutane right away (circa 2007) and I was handed a thick book that talked about the side effects. I was already aware of accutane and told the dr I am not doing it, he said find another dr then. A few years later I decided to do a holistic approach on my own and cut dairy out of my diet. My skin cleared within a few weeks! I was like wow, I was embarrassed during my teen years and destroyed my skin when all I had to do was adjust my diet! I am so ticked off at dermatologists, I do not trust them.
