Going to have to disagree with the review. But it’s cool honestly.
I legit enjoy every song. Nothing can sway my mind. At all.
If anything, I’ll agree with the title. It screams “Murder raps” but the vibe wasn’t really dark. Cool. Whatever
I love this album. Every song. I can hear a 1,000 reviews and will be like:
“Cool. Rock on. More greatness for me”
The replay value for me is super, super high. I can pinball with album since it has a mixtape vibe. I can play a bunch of shit randomly and sometimes even still end up playing the whole thing.

Bruh No Regrets was one of the standout hooks on the album, Don Toliver killed that shit! This review is an example of the size of Em's fanbase at this point. Every section wants different shit! Y'all want him to do all old school Slaughterhouse style joints, but then people say that shit sounds dated. He has up and coming artists come in and smash the hooks and then people say he's tryna appeal too much to the younger crowd. I can see why this dude going crazy on that first track 😨😡.

Myke is just straight up gas-lighting with his final remarks. Eminem has shown on plenty of occasions that he's a fan of some pop music. (Ironically, Myke is a fan of some pop music himself.) The fact that he's been collaborating with pop acts for literally a decade now and even put relatively unknown artists like Jessie Reyez on his albums is a pretty telling sign that he actually enjoys making these kinds of songs. Hell, he even proudly proclaimed this on "Rap God" ("It's not hip-hop, it's pop, cause I found a hella way to fuse it"). Just because he isn't doing what YOU want him to do doesn't mean he isn't doing what HE wants to do. Give me a fucking break.

I think some people somehow conditioned themselves to hate Eminem hooks, cause I really don't see much problem with most of the hooks in this album. For example the hook for stepdad was taken pretty much directly from an old Argentinian rock song and I don't think if you guys heard that before hearing stepdad you would complain as much as you do with stepdad. For anyone interested it's called amame peteribi

They all liked something different. So it seemed like if you broke down every song it would be something for everyone but the hooks being bad is something they agreed on right. Yet no regrets, little engine, and step dad are the ones they could think of and name as bad hooks. All are different and no regrets is a total different person and vibe and just about everything about the hook is different. So it just caught me off guard when all this guy's with different opinions and different views was able to agree on that.

I never understand why review an album of an artist you consistently don't like.

  • @BT30191
    @BT30191 4 года назад

While I agree with the points you guys made on the album, the criticisms about some of the choruses, the anger and speed flow are valid, it seems like those criticisms hurt your overall enjoyment of the album a lot more than it did for me. I can live with a few wack choruses and a few pop songs when I really really enjoy the rest of the album. For me personally, songs like Yah Yah, You Gon Learn, intro, unaccomadating, I will, and lock it up are going straight onto a playlist while I can appreciate songs like Darkness, those kind nights, never love again, leaving heaven, and Marsh as being decent songs for a certain mood. The rest I might skip, but that's a pretty solid percentage of really dope songs. I can understand the frustrations with elements of those songs, and the rest of the popish songs but for me it doesn't mean I walk away disappointed, which is the sense I get from ya'll.
I think you guys probably agree with me that at this point in Em's career you kind of have to accept that his entire albums arent going to appeal to you, because his fan base is so large and disparate and he is trying to cater to them all. Myke raised a good point about Em should just stick to making the music he likes, because as he said in the intro, all sections of his fanbase want different shit haha. He's basically had this problem since Recovery. The question then becomes this: do you enjoy the things you enjoy enough to overshadow the things you don't like? Clearly for most of this group (except Myke and Feefo who I get the feeling enjoyed the album a lot more than Beezy and Ken ) the low points were too low for them to fully enjoy the album. I wish you guys discussed the things they liked a bit more, because it feels like a disproportionately negative review, given you didn't think it was wack, although I understand that we are only seeing 30mins of what was probably a longer conversation. Anyway, enjoyed the review, just thought I'd leave my 2c if anyone gives a flying fuck

I agree with what Myke said at the end. But also a few things I would love to see Em do that would help him is 1) do something completely left field. Maybe do a whole project with Alchemist or over Griselda type beats. Like Beezy said, get on some darker production. That’s what we’re use to from him. Not these poppy trap beats. 2) Actually bring back Slim. Just go full horrorcore on an album. I know he got mixed signals with the response of Relapse but time has passed & it’s probably his last great album. Go back to killing mfers (lyrically & conceptionally)...without the accent. 3) Stop trying to appeal to the mainstream crowds. They don’t get that bar fest Em

stevieb274 I think that’s the thing with Eminem’s work these days, i think it takes a few listens because I truly believe his word play and technical skills as a rapper are so advanced that people don’t really catch his bars right away. Like they said he wasn’t saying anything on Godzilla on the fast part? Was it clever? Not really, but it still made sense. It wasn’t just a mesh of words that rhyme. “100% of you is a fifth of a percent of me...” he was just showcasing his skills. I just think Eminem is bored at this point that he tries to out do himself. It’s so easy to point out the corny bars, because it’s hard to pick apart the lyrics and pull the hard bars out like “I’m not gonna let 'em treat the paper like I'm chopping a letter, Dre'll tell you how I shred
So when you refer to the guy next to the Doc, you meant (document) shredder”....maybe newer Eminem just isn’t for them anymore. They didn’t like that Don Toliver hook? That shit was so smooth.

Reason why Em always needs to prove himself, and I think that black people have a problem with a white rapper expressing his personality and we want Me to be black or hood. Wordplay and skill was crazy and I feel like some lines we're meant to be funny but are seen as corny. 4:44 was dope but not the peak it was "black". Our race would rather embrace mumble rap to try and hold on to that black ID

I wanted to revisit this review because I've had a few months to sit with this album. The more I listened the more I enjoyed it. I think we all have so many expectations of Em after listening for 20 years that we're not even sure what we want anymore. For instance, if you take away the hook from Stepdad that song was VINTAGE Em!!!! Exaggerated storytelling, funny, riding the beat perfectly - that Alchemist beat was beautiful btw. But yet y'all complained about the song just cuz of the hook. And I literally had to wait 16 minutes into the review to hear you say anything about Em's bars. I don't know why you guys mostly focus on stuff you don't like when it comes to Em. Mike says he likes 95% of the album but 95% of his comments were about what he didn't like. Just something to think about. Hopefully someone reads this so you can keep it in mind when you review an album from Eminem in the future. I don't think this is one of Eminem's best albums but this review was depressing af. Too much focus on what you didn't like, which would be cool if you guys really didn't like the project, but that wasn't the case.

Matt Lesner right, like I don’t get why people say he’s not saying anything. Are we reading lyrics anymore? Like of course it’s not deep, but it’s not like it’s just a jumble of random words, I think he did it pretty well and skillfully “You're bringin' the killer within me out of me
You don't want to be the enemy of the demon who went in me...” ehh whatever. Not everyone’s gonna like it.
And be on the receiving end of me

    • @Shaolinmike1994

Brooklyn Medina well, sometimes you have to when the rapper is using a lot of word play. There’s a rhyme scheme in “premonition” where there’s an acronym after he says “I was once considered the G O A T” and then he proceeds the rhyme scheme with starting off each bar with each first letter of GOAT. So yea it’s not all about that but eminem is a crafty word smith and you’re not gonna catch all his references the first listen, sometimes the first few listens too.

    • @Shaolinmike1994
      @Shaolinmike1994 4 года назад +1

Brooklyn Medina ok, I guess there aren’t any black word smiths that appreciate the craft of writing rhymes as a technical style 🤨 please don’t make this a black and white thing or a European and African thing. Eminem also has emotions in his music and is good at conveying a message, e.g the song “Darkness”. You didn’t have to get that deep about this whole race thing and it being a “concern”because I’m into a word smith. Whatever bro. I’m not gonna bother responding back again. I don’t have time for an ignorant topic and about where hip hop derived from and African roots. I know about hip hop. All I stated was I liked what Eminem did with the fast rapping and that it made sense to me. Peace, have a good night.

I think what Em really needs to do more than anything is make a project with just one really dope producer that he has chemistry with making all the beats. We’ve seen Royce work with Premo, Joell with Illmind and Apollo Brown, which was some of my favorite projects from them.
4:44 was super dope in part because No ID made every beat. I’m not saying that Em could make a project on that level, but if he locked in with One top producer, I think it would be a great improvement

You're right man. Spot on. But if he actually locks in with just one producer (preferably Dre or Alchemist) I still feel he's capable of making an album at least at par with 4:44 if not superior. Cuz like Mike said the hooks stood out like a sore fucking thumb on this one. That said, the flows were there the rapping was on point and a major improvement in his bars too from Revival and Kamikaze. So he just needs to ensure his hooks are catchy to his boys in the room and NO ONE ELSE. But apart from that this is definitely the direction that he needs to be taking henceforth.

Em probably doesn’t find it fun to go with simpler punchlines and schemes that sound better like he used to. I believe he probably finds more fun in making really complex punchlines and schemes with multiple meanings. I see it as him challenging himself to get better because at this point he’s done it all critical acclaim, topping the charts, breaking records, creating a huge fan base, inspiring other rappers, etc. Eminem has been in the rap game for over 20 years and he’s still not sick or tired of rapping. Sure his recent albums haven’t been the most sonically amazing but you can’t deny his lyrical ability isn’t sharper than ever. At this point I just want him to keep rapping until he doesn’t want to anymore. His legacy is and always will be cemented in the rap wall of fame.

Like y’all really think Jordan his rookie year is the same Jordan year 15. Nah, still a beast though. Like I think Em gets a bad rep when it comes to his simpler bars Bc its simple word play in reality but some view it as corny lines. And the irony is they’ll listen Legends like lil Wayne & Kanye West and will never bat an eye at their wordplay. Its called wordplay for a reason. Ngl his hook game had been lacked luster lately. Great on occasion but often trying too hard. Like Em I’m sorry but you can’t sing that high keep it mellow. Keep in mind he has a marketing team and pop rap charts well with pop fans. And I’m all for experimenting but I see why the fast nonsense hooks and singing hooks bring the song down but I thought overall he was pretty decent on this album with the hooks. Like Em could care less about the hooks sometimes Bc the lyrics are filled with wordplay, crazy syllables, double sometimes triple Entendres, dope metaphors etc. like he’s a lyric kinda guy. Reverting back to my point, he’s in year 24. Been on the map for 21 years which has spanned 4 decades. The canvass has been fully covered. Like Idk what to say at this point. You have to play the song back to back on repeat to catch everything and when you thought you caught every lyric you’ll find something new a few years later. At his stage in his career lyricism overload is his go to. Idk what else to say... if you don’t fuck with his new shit then bump his old shit. Damn, that was a long rant, my b.

I 100% agree with Myke that rapping fast isn't inherently impressive. To me, speed rapping is like a van halen style guitar solo. It's only impressive if you know how to use it and how to craft a coherent song around it. It gets boring really fast if it's overused and it does not in any way excuse mediocre or wack writing. And on Godzilla Em's verse was really forgettable.

How you gonna say it was overused when it's literally 1 verse from 1 song 🤣🤣🤣

Im surprised for a hip hop heavy channel, they didnt take time to at least read his lyrics. That last min on godzilla he spazzed. It was only until the ‘toilet bowl’ line where it got a little ridiculous. But before that, he was saying some cool shit. But he was showcasing his skill. Im sorry, i disagree, godzilla was 🔥

Nice review! You guys would really benefit from getting a microphone for each guy. I had to keep turning the volume up and down.
Or maybe utilizing a little compression on the vocals

When I check for Em I’m not looking for the ability to bump and bop my head because he’s not known for great beat making I’m listening for his lyricism that’s what I judge his artistic value on. For example you don’t judge Picasso on the realism of his paintings.

I was literally waiting for this review over all the others. Even in your lukewarm responses y'all savage as hell lol. To each his own though. I thought the album was dope. And I haven't listened to an Eminem album since Encore. Favorite tracks are Godzilla, I will, Yah Yah, You gon' learn & No Regrets.

I love that you guys can be brutally honest without being hateful. Thank you for that. I just have to say that there were several moments on this album that gave me "old Eminem" vibes...that classic Em that everyone keeps asking for. I heard it on I Will, Stepdad, Premonition and You Gon Learn. It made me happy.
