השיר "אמא, אבא וכל השאר" נכתב ע"י סמל ראובן פוליטי ז"ל, חלל מלחמת יום הכיפורים.
סמל ראובן פוליטי ז"ל, יליד ירושלים, שירת בסיירת אגוז. במלחמת יום הכיפורים (1973) השתתף בקרבות הבלימה ברמת הגולן ונהרג מאש סורית בתל ענטר. היה בן 19 במותו.
השיר הוקלט במסגרת "עוד מעט נהפוך לשיר 2011", תוכנית מיוחדת של גל"צ ליום הזיכרון, במסגרתה מלחינים אמנים ישראלים ידועים מילים שכתבו חללי צה"ל.

the lyrics were written by an Israeli soldier who was killed in the war of 1973, he was only 19 and his name was Reuven Politi. Here's a rough translation to what he had to say:

my friend - there are so many neuances here: why do they sleep in their clothes? why does the night seem endless? and above all - why do they say that it's a black craft? if you are still here would be happy to explain the obvious, and maybe try and guess the non-obvious :)
I am going to try and explain some of these things, but obviously they are up to interpretation.
They sleep in their clothes because during war their is no telling when you will be needed so the soilders have to always keep themselves prepared, even in their sleep, so that they can be ready at a seconds notice.
The nights being endless could elude to the idea that their is no happiness, which is usually represented by the sun. A state of constant night is probably used as a way to say that he is not happy with what he is doing, but it still needs to go on, continually. It may also be due to the amount of smoke and dust in the air from the bullets, bombs, and other weapons. Because when you are constantly firing these things it builds up in the air until the sun cannot be seen. Leading to a state of constant darkness.
The black craft is probably refering to wickedness or witch craft. He sees what he is doing as evil but is not in the position to stop. So he continues until he dies or the war ends.
I hope that this answers some of your questions, it is a really beautiful but sad song. It shows what war does to the soilders fighting, which is often forgotted to those at home.
