@@DrKlausTrophobie There is a non-zero chance of being buried alive. It has happened, it continues to happen, and will continue to happen. It's rare though, so the chances of being buried alive are very low. Embalming makes sure you're dead, but then again, so would cremation.

Best pull quote ever.
it doesn't make any sense. I though vampires couldn't die. so why would there be a need to dispose of them?
@@davidroosa4561 I can’t find definitive information for the time this occurred at the moment, so it might not be the case for this situation specifically (if someone knows otherwise, please share, I’m ravenous for random details of vampire history lol), but vampires of the western tradition were originally corpses that came back to life, hence practices where dead people who were suspected of vampires or were thought to be at risk of becoming a vampire would be buried with bricks in their mouth, their limbs tied/cut off, iron or wooden stakes to nail them into their coffin, or any number of other things intended to keep the corpse from rising from their graves and/or stop them from being able to consume blood.
That was an information dump that you might not be interested in lol, but all this to say, by this belief, if you burn a corpse to ash, there’s no way for it to then rise from its grave as a vampire and hurt/kill people, so that’s probably why the guy was super into the idea of cremation!

I grew up in the Washington area and I have been to the crematorium (on a field trip!). When we were told the story as kids, everything that happens to the body is summed up to ghost stories! Missing body? Corpse must be haunted and walked away. Body looks different than it did yesterday? Haunted. Hand moving as he burns? I told you, the corpse is haunted! There are even stories about smoke rising from the chimney of the crematorium at night despite the building no longer being used for that purpose. Well done as usual..
Love where your Scholarship funds are going! ♥️♥️♥️
16:50 this is essentially the reason my mom wanted cremation: "You know me - I've always been a fastidious person. Slowly rotting away in a dark coffin doesn't seem like me."
Wait wait wait, I need to know more about this dude who thought God didn't intend people to come in contact with water. I have questions.
I know!
Yeah like I assume bathing is out but what about crossing rivers? What about rain? What about drinking water to live?!
@@taylor3950 Right? I had all those same questions! And bathing being totally out? I don't see that being a situation a human could live long term. I mean, even the cavemen probably took a swim now and then. I'm not even talking about stink..just ..crust? And did water include ALL liquids? Maybe a bath in beer?
Some people don’t need an answer I guess.
@@DenaInWyo the people demand the truth!
Thank you. You are so much fun to watch!!!
Binge-watching Caitlin today... I absolutely love your videos !
Same
Caitlin is soooo awesome. She and this channel got me through a really tough time of my life. I found her in early 2018 and then was diagnosed with brain cancer in October and my father died of metastatic lung cancer 2 weeks before Christmas. Caitlin's frank and candid talk about death helped me immensely to deal with the funeral industry in the wake of my father's death and I was able to make sure that his wishes that he not be mutilated or embalmed before cremation werefollowed. We shaved him in his death bed and sat with him all day talking to him and sharing stories. The only thing the funeral home did was to dress and wrap him for his viewing the next day. Never would had pulled that off without knowing what to say and ask per Caitlin. She also helped me be okay with the idea of my own mortality in the face of my cancer diagnosis. Long story short, she has saved my life! I love Caitlin now and forever!
How are you now?
Cremation was around much longer than that. They just added the "wait until the person is dead" part.
Yup
Nah, that's apearantly is "arson" and the elderly couple across my street didn't appreciate my helpful and we'll meaning initiative to help them to get a cheap cremation. I've been told that it is a "felony". 🙄

And I- oop
Pioneers like Sam Colt help with that "patience" part quite a lot. ;o)
One of the main reasons I watch is your voice, it's real chill. It has gravitas.
Love the way you narrate, thank you so much
The Reverend Octavius B. Frothingham sounds like something Shawn would make up as an alias for Gus in Psych
It's the initial B. that makes the name
De Palm made up his whole family XD
@@manfrommeeteetse3880 I don’t know why he didn’t just keep whatever the B was, it’s already a mouthful🙄
Honestly I wouldn’t have been too shocked if cocaine was involved in the cremation
@Make Me Believe I meant mixed into the ashes :/
Best video EVER!! Thanks Caitlin. Love all your videos!!
I love how casually she moves past the statement that some people suggested turning human bodies to stone as the best option. xD I have questions!
Unrelated: I often find myself randomly singing "BENTHAMS HEAD!" Thank you, Caitlin.
This. 😂
My university friends used to talk about Jeremy Bentham, his head and the varnished corpses he wanted to keep in his garden all the time and every time I hear the jingle it's like running into an old friend.
This! Or, "The Middle Ages were ma-giiiiic!"
Also “Kentucky Meat Shower” now

What a story! Thank you for sharing it.
I SO LOVE YOU... prioritization? Your brain. Your sense of humor. Your broad knowledge. Your absolute smoking hottness. OH, and your effortless presentation/teaching.
And your absolute unfiltered... everything.
