      So you believe if the NBA wasn’t involved with gambling promotion this wouldn’t have happened? Interesting.

      This has nothing to do with leagues “getting in bed” with “gambling”. This has been going for decades. The NBA has knowingly influenced refs as well

    It's not about the money making sense. It's about the possibility of an entity having leverage on a player. Also, addictions are not about logic or math. An athlete who has a problem isn't concerned about logic.

    • @legitdragon6202
      @legitdragon6202 2 месяца назад +3

      Exactly, players wouldn't get suspended for gambling if we're thinking 'logically'

    • @jamesh7469
      @jamesh7469 2 месяца назад +3

      This is a great point. Nick is treating all the players as logical actors when they can easily be corrupted by addiction or 3rd parties
      Organized crime can and definitely has had their teeth in this before and they can easily use manpower to get around single bettor maximums on small prop bets

    • @sffan10
      @sffan10 2 месяца назад +1

      That’s the worst case scenario. And that can happen with players who don’t intend to bet on or manipulate their own sports. If they get down bad with the wrong person bad things can happen.

      More importantly don't allow correlated parlay legs. That didn't used to be allowed and I was shocked that it is now. A corelated parlay leg is when the likelihood of more than one - or in this case all- of the legs hitting increases or decreases along with the likelihood of any individual leg hitting. For instance, back in the old brick-and-mortar days when I did parlays I couldn't walk up to the window and say I want to place a 3 leg parlay on a full-game Under, a same-game Half-game Under, and the leading scorer in that game going Under. Obviously if one happens all 3 are more likely to happen than not so you are risking only single-event money but stand to win multiplied parlay odds if it hits. I don't even think this is fraud. I think a big-baller sharp or a group of sharps perceived a slight advantage on the Under on this player and since the legs were all corelated the bettors were more than willing to risk losing 20K on what amounts to single-event risk for 1.2 million payoff from multi-event parlay odds. I would be interested to know if they employed this angle with any other players. Even if they had lost, they still should have come back and doubled down with this strategy another 10 times. Lose 200K to win a million? I'll make that exchange any day. The books got greedy and sloppy by allowing same-game correlated parlays and paid the price for it. Believe me, they make so much money with these sucker-bet parlays there is no need to feel sorry for the books. They made a calculation, took a risk, and some sharp bettors called their BS.

    Not a fan of Nick projecting that he has integrity because he only shows game lines and doesn’t show player props. Gambling is gambling, you can’t have it both ways. Either don’t mention gambling or own it. You’re no different than someone highlighting a player prop.

    He gambled when he had the highest salary in the sport. Gambling is not for these athletes just about making more money.

    If you guys are into golf you know how much money the PGA/ LIV guys make. They are loaded with $, esp at the top. Outside of Tiger who is easily the #1 earner in this history of the sport, Phil Mickelson has to be number 2. Phil Mickelson is a sports gambling addict who is in debt for millions in losses. Yes, if you and I win the lottery we probably wouldn't feel any need to gamble anymore I guess, but that's not everybody. And that also doesn't pertain to athletes. Just because if you had the chance to live your dream and play in the NBA you would never shave points doesn't mean the people actually talented enough to play in the NBA don't shave points. You only know yourself, and even that gets dicey. You don't know the intentions and mindset of strangers. Don't assume they're like you

    My dad doesnt watch any sports but when the warriors lost to cavs in 2016, he said its probably some big bookie gambling entity that made that happen. You dont come back against a 73-9 team down 3-1. But who knows maybe its for the ratings?😅
