Mammillaria elongata is such a pretty plant and its great that you were able to salvage those cuttings! The first time I took cuttings over winter I used a bone dry gritty mix and just left them in the porch not thinking they would take but come spring, they started fattening up as they had put down roots. Very satisfying indeed!
Thats fantastic you successfully rooted cuttings with the grit too, it works so well for rooting over the winter, and I find the grit seems to encourage rooting so much better than when cuttings are put into soil, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Saturday XXXX

These cute little cuttings are now nicely potted. May they root for you Lyn! How is it that you use grit without any compost added to it? Never thought it could work well for cactus. Have to try some day! Thanks for sharing! Hope you have an amazing evening my friends Lyn and Hans. Wishing you both a Blessed New Year 2024! Sending lots of love and happiness!
I am so happy that I managed to save these cuttings Sylvia, I find the grit seems to encourage faster rooting, I think its because the grit has no nutrients added and it seems to encourage faster rooting, the grit also reduces the changes of any rot while the cuttings have no roots, Happy New Year to you and Paul too Sylvia, and thanks so much for your wonderful Friendship and incredible support through 2023 and your amaizng comments and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you and Paul lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Malta for a wonderful Saturday and New Year 2024 ahead XXXX

I have had very little success with this cactus. But I have decided to give it one more try by getting the Red one. I think I need to cut back on the watering from this video. We are in the middle of summer and we have had some very hot days. I am confused on how much water to give them. Happy New Year, Lyn! 🌵

Nice one Lyn 🙂 I've just done that with some of my elongatas. Have you heard of a monstrose copper coloured one, not cristate but very lumpy? I've got one that isn't growing like all the others, more like lumpy mc lumpface of lump street, lump town, lumpshire 😁
Thats fantastic you have taken cuttings of your elongatas Ziggy, WOW with the monstrose copper one, I have not hears of the monstrose ones, and haha with lumpy mc lumpface haha, thanks so much Ziggy for your wonderful Friendship and amazing comment and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you and Jackie lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Saturday XXXX
I see the spines are a copper color but looking closer at mine both the spines and the actual plant look copper. It almost looks diseased or something. I’m having a hard time finding info to help me determine if it’s ok or dying
Hi Megan, the plant should be green but the spines copper, these Mammillaria elongatas can be very prone to rotting, the best thing to do is to remove your cactus from its pot and check if the roots are ok, if the roots look healthy the cactus should be ok, thanks so much for watching and wishing you a fantastic plant powered Tuesday XXXX
a crested elongata was one of the first cacti i ever bought. i need to get another because i lost that plant a long time ago when moving from one state to another.
