    $845 for oil, filters and wipers is insane... that’s $100 of items. A shop tech who knows what they are doing accomplishes this job in 45 minutes. They keep it in the back for 4 hours and make you wait because that’s the shop time you are being charged.

    Do it yourself for 150 dollars (cost of oil, oil filter, cabin and air filters) and skip the alignment unless you see abnormal wear. A pair of front AMG brake rotors do cost over 1600 and there are no aftermarket alternatives. Pads cost a few hundred. I don't know why you'd replace rotors at 20K miles. But yeah, the massive front rotors on the S63 are pricey... about 1600 for a pair. The smaller rear rotors are cheap. Learn how to change your oil, transmission fluid/filter, brake pads and rotors, air and cabin filters, spark plugs, rear differential, and flush the brake fluid yourself and you'll save a ton of money. Dealerships make very little money off car sales. Service is where the big $$$ are made.

    Your biggest enemy is rapid depeciation. Your car could be losing a thousand dollars a week in depreciation. As far as repairs go, you can find genuine Mercedes parts by shopping around on the internet at all the Mercedes dealer's parts websites. Then find a good local mechanic who specializes on German cars, and give him the discounted genuine mercedes parts to install.

    Was the LCD screen not covered by warranty? I recently was an owner of the previous generation CL63 and the rotors are a beast. For that car and I presume they’re the same brake system, rotors are at least $1K each. I am surprised that they would be done after 21K miles though. Pads maybe depending on use but you should be getting a little more out of those rotors. IMHO.

    70% or More of that quote is going straight to the dealerships pocket. try doing your homework and find the parts yourself. You’ll be surprised to see it’s going to be 1/10 of whatever price they quoted you. then take it to an independent mechanic shop. For example oil change, go to Walmart buy full synthetic oil, a oil filter and the air filter. take that to a mechanic shop and pay only for labor which will cost less than $75 total

  • @BigtimeKevin
    @BigtimeKevin 6 лет назад +3

    If the vehicle is still under original manufacturer warranty, the LCD Screen should be covered with no questions asked. If not, and you didn't purchase it as a Certified Pre-Owned Unit then it's not covered. Only aftermarket warranty that would cover everything would be an Exclusionary Warranty. If you want to cut your maintenance cost in half, check out FCPEuro.com, they offer Lifetime Replacement Warranty on their OE and OEM parts.

    • @badkid73

      It would be great if fcpeuro carried the massive 15" original Mercedes Benz S53 front rotors - which cost 800 bucks a piece (1600+ for the front pair) for lifetime replacements. Alas NO.

    You do not need to replace your rotors at 20,000 miles, you shouldn't even have to replace your brake pads that soon unless you're going a hundred miles an hour and slam on the brakes real hard every time you stop. That dealership is really taking advantage of you. I don't care what kind of car you haveeven the cheapest cars will go 20,000 miles before you have to replace the brake pads. Unless that car is under warranty I would take it to a trusted mechanic and get the work done from a non Mercedes dealer. if I'm not mistaken you do not have to take a car under warranty to the dealership for service as long as you use Mercedes Benz parts and the oil you use has the API stamp you can take it to a non Mercedes mechanic and they have to cover it under warranty.

      I think it depends heavily on the dealer. The Merc dealer I went to when I had my C300 never ever tried to upsell me on anything, even B service (oil change +inspection of components every 20k miles). They fixed every complaint I had with the car, even down to things as small as rattles, and they even replaced warped rotors for free even though they aren't covered under Mercedes-Benz warranty. Honestly, even though the car had some issues, the service quality actually intices me to return to the brand, although I certainly recommend not keeping your car out of warranty unless you are prepared to work on it yourself.

    Well, its an S-class, then, its the AMG, its not your average car, it targets the sort of people who dont have issues with....COST...also, the smart guy will not daily this kind of car, it saves you from losing a lot of money from running costs, but then, its just my poor self thinking...

  • @tnsd5801

    $2700 for a brake job on an AMG model for one axle is about right. If it was non-AMG it would be much cheaper. Alignments can be recommended due to tire wear pattern issues (mostly) also, not just because the vehicle pulls or the steering wheel is off center (That is usually because the nut behind the wheel is loose and hit a curb, large pothole, etc.). 4 years 50k miles is MB's warranty on a new vehicle. As long as there is no sign of abuse it should have been covered. MB is expensive and parts take longer to procure. The price to pay so you can brag about owning The Chicken Foot.

    Near $15,000 in 6 months, and that's not including the money you're loosing in depreciation. This is why I never buy German! My brother had a VW Boxster and was greeted regularly with dreadful reliability, a blown engine and regular £2,000+ bills.
    My aunt did near 20k on her VW Continental GT (no, it's not a Bentley - Bentley died years ago) in the first year, then switched over to a Range Rover. Oh well, out of the frying pan ...

    Damn you got ripped off lol :D Service A for your car including oil change, oil filter, cabin filter, air filter, should be at max 250$ in parts. Front brake pads should be listed at 300$ + 20$ sensor. I do not believe your brake rotors are worn out, since the OEM ones last around 80.000km. Considering the LCD, id take it to a electrician to check the wires. There is no chance you need an wheel alignment unless you made those 20k miles driving on potholes constantly. Remember, mercedes dealer never repairs something, they change the part even if its on 90% lifetime.

      @@Mabeylater293 I'm not even rich as well as I drive poorly made 2018 Lexus ES350, wind noise at low speed from bad shaped mirror, always goes for bad wheel alignment, bad interior materials which faded in less than 2 years such as leather seats and steering wheel as well as most part of the car interior so easy to scratch.
      Don't forget to mention bad brake response and a lot of body rolling .. Lexus overestimated brand .. poor made .. I haven't owned any European car from any brand but I drove bunch of them .. they rides like a dream with massive of luxury touches .. btw I have both Japanese and American made cars.. which I prefer Americans made .. at least they are cheap at the time of purchase as well as the powerful engine the provide. They saw you coming. Its all about upselling to cream anything they can out of you. Shouldnt the screen been covered under warranty. Shouldnt have accepted that one. Car dealer workshops are known for their high charges especially rip off Mercedes. This is the same mob in Aus that are telling owners they need to have genuine rims on their cars. What the. They ate so use to pushing over owners for extras they just lve it when cars come back for their service.
