you're an excellent teacher EXCELLENT. i'm a young active 64 year old and you have been golden in your method. im tackling all my lifes hobbies and Ukelele wasn't on my list but Im doing it and you are responcible for being the " IT Guy". Thank you so much. keep your excercises .on the Rumba coming
Manny I pray you have the time to produce more content for this channel because you are so articulate and clear with your instructions. You must be a busy man but whenever you have the time, I’ll be here for your next tutorial because you are an amazing teacher.
Thank you for your kind words! Unfortunately you are correct, I don’t have the time to put up as many videos as I would like. Whenever I do it’s usually covers, I really don’t consider myself much of a teacher but there is an advantage to being able to re-record a video til you get it right! 😅 Also, I feel this is the only real unique thing I have to teach on uke, all the other stuff is covered in so many other tutorial vids that I feel I really have nothing new to contribute. But I’m glad this particular one was of use to you!
mourningcrows I know other ukulele tutorials cover many things but it’s your way of speaking and teaching that really gets to me. I wouldn’t mind if you post something 10 other tutorials have posted because I can understand you far more clearly.
You know, ukulele is such a beautiful instrument. It's very rewarding to hear you create magic with it. I was smiling throughout this video. Thank you very much for this!😄
You are a great teacher and so happy to come across your lesson. As a beginner uke player this video was truly inspiring so thank you for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to explain it so clearly. Awesome ukulele too. Take care.
I started to watch and thought, “This is impossible for me,” and almost quit. But I kept watching as he broke it down into easily understandable parts and I changed my mind. 😏 I still can’t do it .... yet. But now I’m pretty sure I can learn it! Given the chords I’m glad I still have my baritone uke and a “low G” tenor. The mark of a truly gifted teacher is that he/she can reach the not so talented student. So I’ve made this my Fall challenge. MikeinMinnesota
Michael St.James take it slow and practice practice practice. It’s pretty much all muscle memory once you get the hang of it. Took me a while too! You’ll get there! And thank you for your kind words.
This is the reason I want to play the ukulele - to play flamenco style techniques. Thank you for this video! You’ve explained it very clearly. Would love to see more flamenco techniques!
Annabelle Ramos there’s a really cool video of Ben Woods playing flamenco on a concert ukulele I think. It’s on the Córdoba Guitars channel if I’m not mistaken.
mourningcrows thanks for letting me know about Ben Woods. I actually want to learn how you’re doing the rumba style. I like the beat very much! Please make more 😊
Thanks for putting this out there! You’re such a good teacher. I can just tell music makes you so happy and you teach it so easily because you genuinely enjoy it. The rhythm Is so beautiful! It’s been my favorite thing to play. I’d LOVE to see more Spanish style tutorials. 😊
Hey there! Just wanted to say you're amazing at teaching. I've watched a lot of ukulele videos recently, and your teaching style is so simple and easy to follow. I really enjoy it! If you have more time to teach, I'd love to watch more of your videos.
That’s a lovely ukulele, great tutorial too! You have a great tutoring way about you very clear and concise more like this would be greatly appreciated, 🙏🏼
This is some really beautiful playing, amazing mastery of the strum, and a gorgeous uke! You've earned a new subscriber, friend. Thank you for this tutorial!
Amazing! thank you so much! this is so different than anything else I have seen for a uke tutorial and very well explained. really appreciate it. blessings to you, sir.
Very clear, excellent tutorial. One small exception, maybe just for me, can't seem to get the 3rd finger nail strike on the down beat (or beat 7) while strumming down with 1st finger. I'll keep trying
You play so beautifully...your rhythms are awesome. I am having a tough time with the second part at the end. I can't seem to get my index finger to strum while the ring finger hits the body...mercy!
Beautiful..thank you, Manny! Similar to the huapango which I love to sing and play, from Mexico but more intricate. I’m gonna try. Pls tell me name of your baritone? Gorgeous! Mil gracias!!
its a really cool strumm! But why are you playing it behind the sound hole since it can be played at the normal strumming position above the soundhole aswell?!
Excellent question! When I play tenor I do usually play over the sound hole. This being a baritone and a bigger body, I tend to play it more like a guitar. 25+ years of guitar playing and some habits are hard to break lol, but also due to the percussive tap on the 5 on the lower bout under the bridge area, it’s less of a stretch and more efficient strumming. Again, referring to the bigger body of the baritone. On tenor, concert, and soprano this is not really an issue.
Hello! It’s a Cocobolo Baritone. As far as recommendations I guess a ukulele with a brighter tone since most flamenco guitars tend to sound bright and “snappy”. I hope that helps.
For the last part to do the index strum + the ring finger tap at the same time a good way to help you reach that is to think of the ring finger as doing a small downwards strum also but at a very very downwards angle like as if u are going to drill a hole into the body, so strum only with ur ring finger the last 2 strings and have the goal of reaching the body to hit the body. Practice that then add the index for the full strum and do them together. Basically dont just raise ur ring finger from the air straight down to tap, no use the last string like a spring and push down and it will u to the board for the tap. So rest ur ring finger on the last string, but ur nails touching the string, and then press on it and it will slide u to the bidy, so use that motion to generate the tap, and that is easier because ur index finger is doing a downwards motion so its easier wen ur ring finger is also doin a downards motion. And jus practice alot it will come
Very easy to follow, I'm an absolute beginner and this looks so advanced, and i can do it at a slow pace - you showed 2 notes to do with it - what songs is this and can to provide some tabs Thanks again for this
I think you’re playing “ my “ baritone ! - I purchased a used Cocobolo baritone in San Antonio earlier this year - ser#004 - it looks identical ! Came across your site looking for mariachi strums to use with uke, - nice lesson. ( anything you can tell me about the ukes former life ?) thanks
No freaking way! Yes! That’s baritone #4! OMG I hope you love it as much as I did! The only reason I sold it was because I didn’t like having a radiused fretboard. But rest assured it was VERY much loved! How long have you had it?
@@mourningcrows saw it on Reverb from Guitar Tx in San Antonio, in March, - I was going there for vacation the next day, they still had it - I snatched it up - sounds great, the fretboard is more radiused than I’m used to, I re-shaped the bridge saddle to get even string height, and a radiused Shubb capo - if I ever have it re-fretted I might ask they level the fretboard a bit - it’s now residing in a heated and humidified room in Minneapolis - trying to convince it it’s still Texas 😊
@@thomassweeney7460 I’m glad! Hope you enjoyed your vacation here. The guys at Guitar Tex are good people, Mark has helped me sell and acquire several instruments... mainly acquiring lol

Yeah man. Yuh have real rhythm in dem hands.
Can step 1 and 2 be played with the index (2nd) finger like step 6 & 7 instead of the thumb? :)
BannedG I don’t see why not. I tried it, feels weird to me but if that’s how you feel comfortable playing it then go for it!
