TheGamingSession ... so somewhere out there, a computer exists purely to watch porn.
The scary thought of it is not actually the fact that they record your information. It's only being read by an algorithm and doesn't impact me in my everyday life. The problem is that all this information is being stored somewhere, which makes it possible for somebody to read. Not an algorithm, but a real person. Imagine a world, where the police can just go through every personal information of a suspect, read all their messages, searches and ads. It's a terrifying thought.
Granted, police being able to see people's fb statuses has led to many murders being solved.
they already do that, a guy came to my school to tell use that they can go through companies stuff whenever if they think something illegal is happening.
Well I don't find it a big deal, the police is a public service, even if they find out about your pornography search history or other embarrassing information, they will just ignore it because they don't even know you personally, they just need the information about their case. Actually if accessing this information is useful for them i'm in, if you are an honest person who does nothing wrong you shouldn't worry about anything, even if the police find out some secrets like if you cheat on your wife/husband they will ignore this information unless it is useful for research

When I was pregnant with my 3. child I didn't watch any pregnancy related stuff because I already got everything for my previous children and didn't need anything. Then I wrote in a private message to one friend in Facebook that I'm pregnant. But I didn't exactly write that I'm pregnant, I just wrote that we soon will be five. Sarah Kirchner interesting... I don't think the A.I would've been able to infer your pregnancy from that sentence... However... It might've tracked your friends saying "Sarah is pregnant" a bunch of times and concluded that "pregnant" was related to you.

Ah okay That does make sense.
I wanted to hear the bright side.... :(
T H E R E I S N ' T O N E
BWAAAAAAA!!! BWAAAAAAAA!!!
the bright side is a) it's only ads that can have the free will to ignore and b) you have free internet. That's the benefit. Aside from paying for cable and a few pay sites you have access to the biggest search engine, can watch infinite vids, and can keep in touch with friends 24/7. YOU HAVE THE INTERNET
porn
Bright Side: You literally have access to almost INFINITE INFORMATION for FREE.
I can't believe some people didn't already know this. How else will they make money if you refuse to pay them?
well it's less that people refuse to pay and more that the option was never there because of how the internet has developed..you can't just order an internet package for 12 bucks.
Enablingbuzz That's true. But it's slowly appearing with premium and ad-free packages popping up everywhere. And people complain about them like they're the damn plague, just as much as they complain about the ads. ("I hate those damn ads, but I'm not about to pay them a whole 12 dollars a month!! They're taking my money!!") People are getting the option but many I know refuse to take it because they're cynical about the capitalist schemes to make more money - those same people will unplug and damn near throw out every electronic in their house after watching an Edward Snowden documentary. It's just annoying.
Promise Mitchell Name a package that you are familiar with, i want to dig around see exactly what is being offered, who is getting paid for it and how it stops what was mentioned in the video and why you need to pay every month when all this info is worth 12 bucks for a life time.
Enablingbuzz I may be misinformed so whatever you find, let me know (I'll do some searching of my own in the meantime). And I know of the spotify, and Pandora packages. Not much, but it doesn't advertise - which I assume means doesn't sell the data since you pay. Google has RUclips Red that comes without ads with a monthly also with no ads. Realistically, RUclips is run by Google so they'd probably use it anyway. To avoid the whole Facebook thing I'd imagine you can just stop using Facebook. However, I have only watched this one video and don't care much about anything I do on the internet being tracked by the government. The only thing that bothers me about ads is how long they take to load when my internet is slow. I have elementary knowledge of topic so I don't have much else to say. But I've been convinced that I should be somewhat concerned about this.
if you're not a cyber criminals, high government officials or celebrities, you should be fine and this shouldn't be your concern. I mean they collect data about your personal preferences to sell you stuffs that you might be interested in, it could benefits you in someway, like products that you would never know it exist without those ads, that might help with the efficiency of your jobs, or a stuff of your hobby. There are so many people using the internet that your data is just there to represent a group of people with the same interests and nothing more, they don't have any reason to spy on you. Also, corporation and government have their own network to transfer informations and doesn't have to send email through internet services like Yahoo or Google.
I'm suprised that adam was never silenced or "wacked" because of this
It probably would have happened if his videos got around 100 million views
Big corps don't care that people know. As long as the customers at large keep falling for it, they turn in a profit.
They know that even if we know, we won't do anything about it. We are already hooked and getting technologically advanced. As 1 person quits, 15 people get into the matrix.
I realize that but I do feel this isn’t as terrifying as it seems it’s a much more simple survey of each personality
The thing is. Now I know but I still use Facebook and google so yeah. No danger
This is common knowledge. And honestly I don't give a shit.
Thats what stupid people say.
Smartass I don't care either, I get free services and ads for companies a actually use
+Six .. when your doing nothing illegal and what not why would he give a shit what google keeps on him haha. google r not smart enough to figure out what i like most yet :D but that aside fb will never know coz all i do is hop on to see msgs and sometimes post a utube vid link.
The reason I don't give a shit, personally, is because I'd rather have the practically-free services and just put up with ads and whatever else they're doing. I've not had any issues from it yet, so I don't give a damn.
This can lead to problems like anorexia because of the bombardement of ads telling you how you should be. Issues anorexia can kill people.
I can't believe someone is wasting his/her time tracking me XD
Wasting precious time from a robots life. Ya very sad.
They funny thing is we are all being tracked. And this started happening way before the internet. Now the internet makes it way easier for out masters.
I know right
I think it's more of a robot that tracks everything you do and then keeps that infomation somewhere for whenever they need it
Its a bot but hey its still not worth its time for you so haha
All of the people saying "AdBlock"
Using adblock doesn't prevent them seeing your information, m8.
MasterDAIR but it makes your information worth less
How? Explain.
MasterDAIR because then the ads don't work and they will know they don't work thus making you worth less, it's like economics 101
How will they be able to know it won't work though? Money is only given if you click on the ad (on sites like Google). So it's just like you didn't click it. They won't know unless they do something directly to find out. They won't know if you use AdBlock because Ads don't work, because the same result would come from someone seeing the ad but not clicking it. (Some types of ads do work differently, but the majority work like this)
Adblock does block search result ads (the sponsored ones )
my reaction to all of this is “ ok and? like i didn’t already know that. “
Yeah it’s not like we don’t know this. I mean I’m down for it. Who knows, maybe google will recommend me some cool shit, if not who cares?
And _Adam’s reaction to _*_that_* is “Who said you didn’t know that? We’re teaching those who don’t know, and reminding those who do.”

When this came out this was much less common knowledge.

To be honest, I don't mind my info being sold to advertisers. I just find it interesting how much companies can find out about you when you don't explicitly tell them. And I can't remember the last time I actually bought something because of an ad.
exactly. it’s only really praying on the people who wanna spend money anyways , they just give them suggestions. No one is making them buy it. Now appearing false ads and information is something different
doesn't matter. the fact that they know so much about you is the real problem. and of course these companies give this information to governments too, even if they may not admit it. i don't know about you but i personally don't want any government to have that much leverage over me
@@mehraneh1554 Yah the fact that they sell the information to governments is the real problem
@@mehraneh1554 They don't know about you, keywords in your system get put into an algorithm and that algorithm adds up the other keywords you use to determine the general area of the person you are. For them to actually understand you as a human would require far more information, real humans, psychological studies and other things they wouldn't give a crap about cause it'd be far too much effort for too little payoff. Unless you're spilling every one of your thoughts, opinions, activities etc. onto a website, they're getting at most a handful of generalised properties that they can use to sell stuff to you based on the demographics they find you to fit in to.
am i the only one who doesnt really mind if google has my information.... who cares if i get there are ads which are personalised to us, surely thats not a bad thing?
What most people are worried about is that's not all they can do with your information, but yeah I agree.
There making fb look horrible but I agree I don't mind
jacky m yes it's a rather big problem if they have your information.. they can not only target you with personalised ads, they can manipulate you in your political opinion. they know, based on your likes and behaviour patterns, what type of personality you have and will show you taylored information. for example, they've used this in the trump campaign, showing only people from the city part "little haiti" in florida how clinton failed to help people after the earthquake in haiti, and so on. this is just one example, there's an awful lot they can do. they already have analysed the personality of almost all people living in the us
jacky m google "cambridge analytica", it's the company that helped trump win. it's quite impressive (and scary).
jacky m I totally agree. And it shouldn't be a surprice to anyone that they make money on their products. Let the one who works for free cast the first stone.

Stealthy Daud Really?
and THIS ladies, gentlemen, and whoever or whatever you identify as, is why you use an ad-block
Sure, you can block the ads. But would that solve the initial surveillance issue to begin with? Keep in mind that Google's Privacy Policy states that they keep the individual user's data indefinitely (which in their language means about 30 years).
@@deivedux9342 The thing is, most people probably shouldn't care if they are being watched, it doesn't matter if my erectile dysfunction is known by some AI that recommends me stuff on RUclips or shows me ads when I am scrolling through Reddit.
Edit: Heck, it could be even useful as it would recommend me possible solutions for my erectile dysfunction.
@@yigita3190 We're slowly moving into a society where we don't even own our products anymore. "Phone as a service" initially introduced by Apple and "car as a service" founded by Tesla are a great example. Instead of buying the product, you're actually buying a license to use it, which essentially defines what you can and can't do with it. And this whole dystopia started with these privacy invasion practices that these large corporations are getting away with due to old people being incapable of making laws against them.
@@deivedux9342 I really am concerned with the x as a service thing you said, as it is quite easy to make a monopoly over it. However, I wasn't able to understand how this is tied to the data that companies gather.
@@deivedux9342 I guess use the EU privacy laws to try getting it deleted? Probably doesn't help, Instagram didn't delete some guys profile and got sued.

Google must be so confused of all that misinformation I put online about myself for no reason...
Now google knows lol.
But what if he wants them to know that he's been misinforming them so that he can misinform them again?
keep lying!!!!
yeah, as previously stated I fail to see how a paid system would stop anyone from gathering your data.
also google might only make $12, but that's far less than what we save in exchange. If anyone honestly thinks that RUclips wouldn't charge $9.99 a month clearly is too retarded to function considering RUclips Red. How much would Gmail cost? $5.99 a month? What about access to the search engine? another $5.99, not to mention that's only google, you would also have to pay out to FaceBook, Twitter, etc., etc.. The cost of your data being safe is a lot higher than $12, and like you said, that's not even a guarantee.
and what about porn hub and xnxx ? 10 $ a month ?
That is moronic. If google makes 12 dollars from you (and I would assume that is only once, adam didn't say that it was a yearly thing) why would you be charged half that per service per month? That is ridiculous and no one would go for it. Plus, google would earn a lot of goodwill if they let you pay for their service instead, which will be a lot better and more profitable for them than people using adblock (ublock origin) and anti-tracking addons (EFF's Privacy Badger) plus realistically it would probably be a part of your broadband package rather than something you purchase individually.
H1bbe that has no effect on my statement, I am doubtful that Google would suddenly stop tracking our data if we paid for it. RUclips red for example, all it offers is no ads, that doesn't mean it won't collect your data.
Austin Drapen Because that's what you paid for what? If I pay them to stop tracking me and they keep doing it that's illegal!
One time my siblings and I were talking about how we need a therepist and when one of my siblings opened Facebook the first thing they see is an ad for a therepist

Yeap, cept a 17 year old also gets ads for the wrong console he uses, the incorrect stores and incorrect games
are ads really that effective? i can't remember the last time i bought something as a direct result of seeing it in an advert. do ads actually affect some people's buying decisions? thats pretty sad imo
They affect everyone's buying decisions. Including yours, no matter how cool you are.
João Rezende
maybe subconsciously, but not directly
*****
i guess if only 1 out of 100,000 people are affected by ads, big websites like Facebook would still make massive profits from that. makes sense i suppose
Google is primarily an advertising and analytics company and they really obviously really profitable. Buying an ad service from Google, Facebook etc is quite expensive and there's videos only comparing different ones in terms of driving up your business. It's targetted like the point of this video, if you know someone buys watches you a watch company might get an advert on their screen, if 1 in 30 buy it there's a large profit. A local service like a plumbers might target local people who have looked up/talked about plumbing related needs. Apparently it works.. the money flows.
Exactly, it's about exposure. If you are aware of Coke as an option when you go to the supermarket it is familiar, you tend to go for familiar products.
but a payment model wouldnt stop them from collecting your data
true,
Although, if they were paid then not everyone would go ahead to be on a single site (ex: Facebook). There could be many other choices that are based on different models. Or also there could be higher packages that include total privacy. By refusing to pay anything you also reject customer protection and allow them to do what they want. Paying isn't necessarily the solution but it gives more leeway to have actual solutions.
Well now that it's already been placed. You are correct. However, we can always bandwagon together and ask for a law, helping to stop the collection of data.. Skype has been warned to stop collecting raw video data of its users.. As I and possibly many others use it for other means than just communication. And they still have not stopped.. So who knows.. I just hope I never see a video of me on porn hub. XD haha gross.
A payment mode would entitle the user to certain privileges, such as privacy. And if the terms of contract were breached by collecting data, they would be liable for a lawsuit. But you can't do that with free websites because you read and agreed to the terms and conditions.
Catalin Marin On a business perspective what's actually stopping them, though? At the end of the day, they're still a business; and businesses do what they do: rake in the moolah.
I’ve been aware of this for some time but honestly I have no problem with people selling my info if I get to have a “free” internet experience.
But you can still use it and don't give away your data. So why not?
This is a proof that you're an important person who deserves to be stalked by facebook
That's a positive way of looking at it

Yeah but the government is on the people buying data which is a problem.
Ads aren't made to "make you buy things". It's simple, they just plant the seed and when the time comes you remember them. You may even spread the info about them to other people. Even if the chances are 1 to a 100 some people will frequent them because of the ads. It's worth to do

Honestly I am OK with targeted ads,
That's one thing. They track more then that, they sell your information to insurance companies. They'll know if you're high risk or not, they'll offer you plans and insurance based on that. If they track that you have some major disease, your insurance rates will suddenly rise to cover that and you never knew why.
***** Sell the info to a third party. Third party sells the info to organizations and companies. They do it all the time.
Ikr... If I end up buying something because an FB ad unconsciously affected me, then whelp, my loss? The worst thing really is that criminals will get a hand on your info, but seriously, they can do that anytime they want without the help of FB or Google. When the pro is having the whole world at your fingertips, the tinfoil-hat scare that someone might someday do something nasty with your info isn't really that scary. Shit happens in the world all the time: there is no way to stop it.
Welp, someone predicted the future.
mushroomdude123 No fricking joke! XD
not really the future. just the reality at the time everybody blissfully ignored or said it isnt that big a deal. it wasnt a new thing. just a thing that went public.
wow lol
mushroomdude123 This was always the case. Nobody predicted anything, this is going on with google since the early 2000s
Its not the future, its been going on for a long time already. Whats worse is that all this information, and more, is accessible to anyone who knows how to get their hands on it. Anyone.
One of the few times I thoroughly agree with Adam. Companies like Amazon, Google, Facebook and Microsoft have their tentacles all over the Internet and we don't know hownfar they go; it makes effectively boycotting them nigh impossible bar simply not using the Internet.
Also can suspect that and also Facebook and Instagram really went to rip-off territory just went through the sites going into a blank page when I had a profile back around November 14 and just a week after that I quit and did a deletion or think I got that out of there who knows what's left floating but I'm sure I did. Really not always what it is of social media that's for sure let alone trust it as real since you're more likely to be WRONG on that.
Oh no, not the things I agreed to in the terms and conditions! How dare they use my data to give me ads that are actually relevant to me! still really creepy tho...

It's an art form.
Then why are the ads always irrelevant to me?They never reflect my interests.
Maybe you're lying to yourself and they know better.
Sorry to ruin your dreams, but no, I'm not.
Because they are just looking for buzzwords and other such stuff. It's much more simplistic than people think it is, but it is still an amoral practice from both Google and facebook. Advertisements were fine but they pushed onward to selling personal data on a scale never seen before.
because you're not spending money on anything? if you actually started buying things they advertise to you then maybe the ads will start being relevant
Okay, that makes sense.
Meanwhile I’m getting ads for bulletproof vests, even though I look at furry stuff, because, you know I’m a furry.
You probably made a post on Instagram bout your American high school
Furries and soldiers have a surprising amount of crossover. I don't know why, but it's a thing.
Targeted ads, eh? Than how come I keep getting ads for shitty mobile games and exotic alcoholic beverages? If google is collecting data on me, than they're doing a shit job.
RJTheHero Kinda like me and ads about Disney
RJTheHero do you share a computer?
I, as a ten year old girl, am getting pregnancy control ads.
RJTheHero I keep getting therapy and stress relief adverts as well as dog collars.
RJTheHero those companies pay extra to get to you before the ads that you would like
WHAT WAS THE BRIGHT SIDE
Maybe it was that you can turn off personalized ads in some places.
I don't have an answer to any of that.
I dont think people purely understand this, Google gives no shit about what you search, they simply target ads (with bots) and then go on with other users, it is very very unlikely that an actual human has ever seen your browsing history etc at google
1. What would they threaten google with? they have top ddos protection obviously, they cant sue them...
2. Also, Google only sell this to secure third parties, if you look into the terms and conditions they promise that you are treated like a number and that no human will see your name, address etc.
I see what you mean but... yeah... no one should worry about this.
edit: also, this is only a problem anyway to the people that post everything they do on social media etc, the person in this that bought a burger was only "attacked by ads" because he posted about it :/
Im not as sure about that one as I mostly avoid the site completely, based on what I do know however is that the data is just used to target adverts and particular people, once again, a human will never see it and if one does your name will be protected under an ID key.
Once again though im not as sure about Facebook.
honestly im ok with it

This is actually a brillant business model that is used in dozens of industries these days... from cell phones to videogames, people are more comfortable getting what they want for no up-front fee (price), and instead receiving advertisements.
So you have nobody to blame for this, but yourself and others in society, that want stuff for free... fixed on price, instead of value.
I don't blame anybody. I'm still fine with this.
Yeah, I have no problem with it either really.... but you'd be amazed how many people get bent out of shape about stuff like this.... as if all their stats & habits are being formulated into some diabolical or sinister plot against them.
Heck me personally, I'd much rather get ads targeted towards me, then just a bunch of random ads that don't apply to me.
Lardian For now I'm fine too, but let's all be frank if they used your information for more than just tailor ads. Wouldn't that bother you?
I don't really see issue have with giving to ad companies i mean what they gonna going to do with that info that its going to indirectly hurt them. Some ad company dose some crazy shit with people info there gonna be alot of people to overreact and stop giving info up to date info anyways which leads to ads being not direct to you anymore which leads to less sales and less money for them. They keep ur info safe so they can make all the ad money and you get your " free " website
