    Thanks for another great video!

I was out today purchasing my new Rolex Submariner Gold/Black with my daughter. She said what do you want to do now dad, my immediate response was "I want to watch Goldfinger", she admitted she never saw it, so Shelby, Dad and Black n Gold just finished it. All of us enjoyed it, especially Shelby. Thunderball is qued up.

    Excellent intro!
That's a great list of films that you have chosen.
It's great to see Die Hard on the list. Holly Gennaro where Gennaro is the name that John McClane had a rather heated conversation with Holly about. The relationship between John and Holly and how this relationship is managed or affected by the external events is the core point of movie. Alan Rickman's character and the villains play a part in helping us all to better understand the strength of their relationship.

Hello TGV! Fantastic video! I love the fact that you link watches and movies together, both are my favorite subjects as well. I suggest you making this kind of video at least on an annual basis; discussing watches in movies released that year (more contemporary) or maybe during the eve of Oscar. Excellent video! Thumbs Up for you!

Every since I started watching your channel, I am now watch spotting when I watch Netflix. It is amazing how many quality watches are worn in the Arrowverse.
-- I love those Hamilton day-date watches. The full day display is just iconic, and their design is amazing. I am currently pondering either a Hamilton Khaki Pilot Day or Khaki King, but I have never spent more than $220 for watch.

    • @theurbangentry

Great video. I do love Papillon, it's rich in subtle nuances. The Deer Hunter is so disturbing. It takes me a decade to work up the gumption to watch it again. I just met a guy that works in the same little building that we are in with that Cartier watch shown in North by Northwest as well as a daily barrage of tasty grail pieces. I am so glad you put the Bond Goldfinger in. One of my favorites! Cheers, you can make 30 minutes of RUclips seem like 5.

Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is one of my all time favorite (watch) movies.
Bill Murray plays a down on his luck Jacques Cousteau'esk marine expert and he has his trusty Vostok Amphibia to help him along.
Great pick for the character, the Vostok is simple, budget yet robust and is very telling of Murray's character.
The movie also features a Rolex GMT Master and a Timex if I remember correctly.
    Wonderful movie.

    • @freehey629
      @freehey629 7 лет назад

Agreed, great film. Bill Murrays's character is loosely based on Jacques Costeau, so Costeau's fashion is central to the film's aesthetic.
The whole crew wore Vostoks except for Owen Wilson, who iirc wore a pepsi gmt master.

Great videos TGV! Only recently discovered your channel and enjoying the backlog as well as the new stuff.
On the subject of iconic film/watch combinations: I think Apollo 13 might deserve a mention. The Omegas obviously feature heavily and the famous burn is timed on the chrono. Also, aside from Bullitt, Steve McQueen made the Swiss Heuer/Tag Heuer Monaco famous with the film and marketing for Le Mans.

    Hi TGV,
first of all let me say that I am a big fan of your channel.
Did you watch the movie Driver with Ryan Gosling? I must say it is a bit brutal at times but there is at least one interesting scene where the driver in preparation for a getaway driver job straps his wristwatch to the steering wheel of his getaway car. The entire movie is pretty cool I think. I wonder if would like it.
    Kind regards

Surprised there was no "Olongapo bracelets" in the scene with the Russian Roulette. They were very popular during the Vietnam war. I was working as a teenager in a drive-in theater when we showed "Bullitt"( how long ago was that)! Factoid-They had several versions of each car, some that they had to take the motors out of and push down the hills in San Francisco to keep them from bouncing off the pavement in the car chase and destroying the cars. They tried it initially with motors in the cars and it just wrecked them.

The film The Edge starring Anthony Hopkins, Alec Baldwin & Elle Macpherson in which has a huge OMEGA presence, features two of my most favorable timepieces. Baldwin’s character Bob sports the iconic Seamaster 300m chronodiver with the all chrome bezel & Macpherson’s character is wearing my wife’s preferred everyday watch, a two-tone 22mm Mini Constellation. But it’s quite unclear what watch Mr. Hopkins is wearing because it’s shown only twice in one scene & very briefly.

The casio from Back to the Future makes me ask myself a question. I have a 6000 dollar watch, why am I wearing a Casio A168 that costs 18 dollars everyday this week? And why do I want to buy the databank? Lol. Great video, I like you watch your vids backwards of when they were released which really shows me how much the channel has grown. Will there ever be a movie watches part 3? If so I'd like to nominate "Stranger than Fiction". I can't speak to the quality of the watch used but it has by far the most personality of any watch featured on film that I've ever seen. Honestly, it should have gotten third billing.

Thanks TGV. I nominate Barton Fink. There's a great close-up of an art deco Elgin that I love. I even found one on Ebay for $25!

    TGV,
One of the best examples has to be The Edge (1997) starring Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin. A Seamaster chronograph and Hamilton pocket watch are used as a survival aid and plot device.

I always liked seeing the root beer Rolex GMT, as worn by Clint Eastwood in Firefox. It was only a brief glimpse, but I always loved that watch.

You have to watch "planes trains and automoviles" comedy with Steve Martin and John Candy. Specifically when Steve Martin tries to pay for the hotel room. Maybe a Patek Philippe? Don't know the watch on the scene but is very classy.

Tristano you should watch Dr. Strange, big emphasis on the importance and sentimental value of a watch (a JLC Master Ultra Thin Perpetual in this case) and his drawer full of winders with watches at the start of the film is exciting for any watch geek.

If you look at blown up stills that are online in watch discussion forums, the watch Tony Montana is wearing has a crown which the Omega La Magique does not have. The movie watch body superficially resembles the OLM, and it has been suggested he was wearing the gold reverse of the OLM, but if you look carefully it is different. I don't know what it is, possibly a prop made for the film...

It's not a movie but in That 70's show, Donna gives Erick a digital Casio for his birthday, the one with steel bracelet, he finds it an amazing gift (who wouldn't?) and from that episode on, the watch becomes a permanent cast member.

ah man I was hoping you'd discuss the watch from "Drive" with Ryan Gosling. I suspect you didn't because although the watch was manufactured by Philippe Patek and modeled very closely to an existing Patek, the exact model Gosling wears in the film wasn't ever part of a Patek collection nor sold in the real world. regardless, wonderful video.
