im so glad i found this!! i know everyone and their mother loves derek, and i love him too, but when i saw anastasia on broadway in nyc, cody simpson played dimitri, and ive always wanted to see a "slime tutorial" with him in it.
Derek left for Jagged Little Pill in Boston. Actors are contractual, they can't just bring him back randomly, lol. I do agree that Cody was miscast tho, but it's not like they brought him in because they thought he was better, LOL.
probably unpopular opinion that nobody asked for or cares for but i really need to get this of my chest because i dont want to be the only person who thinks it but: cody is the worst Dmitri in the production that i've seen so far. It was kind of weird to watch like, when doing the lip sinc battle with John in the vlogs, Derek moved his jaw weirdly as to mimik the vibrato christy used in the song but Cody *actually* does that, ( 1:25:14 ) I know its theatre and you're supposed to act and be a little extra but he was just a little too extra if that makes sense. like i get it if its in a more goofy, comedic song/musical but in crowd of thousands it was just to much 1:25:18 is a great example of the extra im talking about. this scene is supposed to be emotional not cringey "YoUR Hoighness" 😭 dont get me wrong i mean, this man is living my dream, being on broadway and getting to work with christy altomare and so many other amazing actors and actresses, and his singing voice isnt bad but his acting is... questionable lmfaooo feel free to argue with me if you want haha
I haven’t seen a lot of him but what I have seen I totally agree! His acting seems like acting if that makes sense? Where as Derek was actually the character

Oh I absolutely agree! I’ve only seen Derek as Dimitri so I just thought I was being biased (bc I couldn’t even get threw 2 minutes of the one) but after watching the clip you talked about I realised It really isn’t good acting and like you said way over the top and not emotional at all!

Ugh, the screaming at the end of "Journey to the Past" is SO obnoxious. You literally cannot hear Altomare, and those are Broadway quality mics, meaning the audience has to be EXTREMELY LOUD to drown her out.
If you want to hear the whole thing, listen to a clip that's not the last show. Of course people are going to be applauding a ton. I personally think it's super cool how much the audience clearly appreciates all the work Christy's put into this song and wants her to know it. Aside from the applause, which can't be controlled, this slime is incredibly good quality, visual and audio. Aside from the unavoidable hiding of the camera. Sorry about the rant! I can't write short comments lol
