London by E-bike: The DYU T1 Foldable

Something a little different. Today, I’m testing a low-cost e-bike from DYU. The T1 has a Magnesium Alloy frame, Mag wheels, and a UK-legal 250W Motor. So, how will this budget e-bike cope with the mean streets of London?

Hey WM, great bike but who would check if you have the throttle installed and use it when safe to do so?
The other thing that is so freaky in the UK to Aus is this; we drive on the same side of the road…on the left, so why are the parked cars on the left have some facing in different directions? That’s asking for trouble as either a motorcyclist or bicycle rider because the driver in a car facing you as you head along the road has no clear sight of you with another car in front of it. The passenger might… if they’re alive & not on the phone… that’s crazy. That method of parking here in Aus is illegal & your car can be towed away.

Hi Steve. Technically you are not allowed to park facing oncoming traffic here in the uk either, however, people just do it anyway. I’ve heard of people getting fined for it, but it’s rare. Here in London the police do random checks on e-bikes a scooters. They mainly seem to target the delivery guys and those on private e-scooters (which are all illegal). So chances are getting in trouble are slim, however if you hit a kid on an illegal bike you are going to jail for a long time. Just not worth it.

Magnesium is a strange choice for a road bike. I wouldn't use Magnesium wheels on a car for the road and when I worked on helicopters with Magnesium wheels, casing any damage to the paint quickly led to the Magnesium oxidation. Flares are made from Magnesium for this reason

In the 1980’s I used St.Pancras quite a lot to get back to the East Midlands but I was far too innocent to venture to the other side of Kings Cross ! I’ve only been there a couple of times in the last decade but what a difference ! Some things do change for the better ! 🇬🇧
