Have the 2016 one for quite some time now. Wanted to switch for a more powerfull bike and tested some. But still dont feel worth it to switch xD this bike ist super cheap also maintance wise. Can do everything on my one with ease
I've got the 1999 x model I love it and had it over 3 years now. Ive ridden the later model's and can't realy tell much difference between them all. Iam pleased I've kept the old girl and 70grand miles on the clock the engine is still going strong
I took a 2019 SV650x for a test ride. Fell in love with just about everything the bike had to offer except the clip-ons. It felt like all the weight was on my wrists. Ended up with a late model 2018 SV650 that I still cherish every moment in the saddle.
I definitely agree. It is the perfect first big bike. I had luck to try one, although it was not 2022 model, maybe 19 or 20 but it was a pretty awesome experience. Almost bought one after that. You were on point with everything. The clutch assist is neat and will definitely eliminate some anxiety for new riders and helps to enjoy the ride. I would highlight the factory exhaust sound how good it is, I loved it. And when you accelerating, that grunt. Cannot imagine a better first big bike. It can give so much fun. If someone is looking for a first big bike or want to go down from litre+ bikes due to certain reasons I strongly recommend to take one for a spin.
Got the standard version which is my commuter bike. They are without doubt one of the great bargains out there, I tried a variety of 650’s including the new Triumph Trident and can safely say nothing beats the Suzuki as an all rounder when you take the cost into account.
My first "big bike" was an original sv650s in the pale candy blue. Loved that bike. This reminds me a lot of the original with that really good looking trellis frame!
Would definitely be the standard SV for me. Rented an S a few years back and wrist, knees and lower back were suffering in town. But that engine… lots of chug, lots of midrange and decent top end. Catch the revs right away from the lights in second and it’s surprisingly quick. If yr on a budget second hand market has some great options, the aesthetically challenged Gladius can be had for peanuts.
@@Englishbikerdan I have a black widow exhaust with no baffel. It makes such a nice difference to the sound of the bike. And it's not too loud. For longer motorway stints. A tip is to sit further fwd on the seat. It takes all the weight off your wrists, but the wind noise is absolutely horrendous, even with ear plugs. I also use one of those palm throttle grips, makes a big difference on longer trips as the vibes can make your throttle hand go numb. I'm m 5ft 11, 14 stone and have done 300+ mile days on mine. It is quite comfortable, once you get used to it. I did Wales last year and will be heading up to Scotland this summer. This year I've done over 3.5k miles
645cc, Mr. Dan. Just bought a '23 blue tank, bronze frame regular SV 650. I do like the higher bars. The dealer where I purchased this little beauty said probably won't be getting any more SV's this year or any other year. Can't wait to ride it. It's in the house till Sunday, when it gets out of the 20's F. Great video.
'Suzuki easy start 'system'' Just what a we need! A 'system' which aids you to press the start button. After 35 years riding, I a delighted to have this 'system', to help me push the start button.
It wouldn't be a deal breaker but I like it in the car (one flick of the key vs a turn and hold which I have to do in the van which is the same make and same age). Makes the van seem every so slightly more useless and old - human/machine interface makes a big difference and the science isn't new. First impressions count. We are fickle things.
The look of this bike is classic wonderful. I love the big round headlight. I also like the big round headlights that contain multiple leds in them too. Combined with the mini cafe fairing going all the way to the back, the style of this bike is very sweet on the eyes. While,I have a soft spot for the regular Sv650, if one of these was on sale at the dealership,i would have no problem buying one. 80 miles per gallon would also be a primary reason i would buy one, realizing ...lol...your mileage may vary with how many times you dump the throttle and rocket off into the sunset smiling from ear to ear.
I have one since I got my licence, 4 years ago. First restricted and then de-restricted. I keep trying other bikes that are twice the price, but they aren't twice as fun.
I absolutely agree! My first "big" bike was a 1999 sv650s unrestricted (I did direct access) and it was a fantastic bike. My next bike after that was an 03 GSXR 600 and whilst it could be more exciting at times, you'd have to be going VERY fast to get that. I think because the SV handles so well for what it is and has a relatively small amount of power, it makes you feel as though you are getting everything from the bike, and all at semi sane speeds too. Having said that, it's also the only bike I've ever got a speeding ticket on 😁
I took the regular model out for a test ride a year or so ago (before they upgraded the brakes) and I was really surprised. Definitely greater than the sum of its parts, on the twisties near me I was giggling my head off! The brakes were pretty awful though coming from my RT. So I suspect this newer model is much better with the 4 pots. Not sure how well they'll sell the X model, looks cool though. Passed my test on a gladius so these always have a soft spot in my heart.
I've got the 2019 x variant. Good bike, good engine and good torque. My only complaint is the seating position. Great for short rides around the city but rather uncomfartable after a while when doing long rides
Never see them here in South Australia. We see the standard ones. Great little bike. Lots of competition out there in that sector. Nice review Take care Mate 😎
Really like this. Mirrors look terrible imo but easily fixed. New rear shock, fork emulators, full system, braided lines & you've got an awesome little road sports / track bike if you want. I think I'd also go for the LED indicators & pop an aftermarket headlight on too as standard one is ok but not great.
Every day I consider converting my 2017 model into an X variant. Might just go for some swept bars instead just for simplicity’s sake. My only kind of complaint about this generation SV is that low rpm assist feature. You’ll get very acclimated to it and stall out other bikes at least once. I test rode an R9T and stalled twice. Guess I got spoiled
I did my test on the sv650 and it was a great bike to learn on. I wouldn't call it a budget bike to be honest everyone has different budgets I mean a ducati multistrada v4s is a budget bike to bill Gates. It's a cracking all rounder for any day of the week
I have 2018 SV650X. It has very good looking and so easy to ride. every things okay but I feel seat is hard on ride over an hour. overall I love my bike. :D
I can't believe these are still going. I remember when they were launched and everyone just saw them as a rip off of a Ducati Monster. They ride surprisingly well.
I bought a SV650S as a cheap winter hack bike two years ago,I fitted a top yoke conversion now it's really comfortable & has become my favourite bike. They're very engaging to ride,,I've now managed to get a brand new pre reg 650X just like the one you're reviewing for £4999,utter bargain, with some of the money I've saved I'll fit a top yoke conversion. Suzuki must have sold thousands of them,I think in the future they'll become a classic bike .😀

Great bikes on a budget, tons of parts available, reliable etc. Just it's crying out for a bit of modernization. However the new gsxs950 might stop Suzuki spending money on it although there are rumours of a non V engine being designed.
Put the Dunlop SportSmart TT on this bike and you will have even more fun on corners ;) But keep in mind to also place the footpegs a little bit higher then :D
In terms of visual it needs help definitely. new exhaust and tail tidy is must if you ask me. I feel like this bike should have come with better suspension and a bit more power. Still, great great motorcycle.
I got a question. I have a 2003 aprilia Tuono right now. Im looking for a newer bike with ABS. And a bit more fuel friendly. Ofcourse on power this would be a downgrade. But would it still be a fun bike to ride if you come from a faster more powerfull bike.
you say perfect first big bike - so having used a 125 for virtually two years this would be a good step up or would people recommend a 300-500 first then 650 upwards?
Iv got the standard sc 650 on order in this colour and the optional seat , my question is the optional seat alot more comfortable than the standard seat and is the standard sv alot more comfortable to the ex . Thanks
With an msrp of $7299 plus whatever dealer fees you get hit with safe to say at least 8k otd its not much of a budget bike lol. Sv650 was great until it changed in 2009 with the gen 3. I owned a 1999 and was fun, then a 2008 and thats the last year they were great bikes. Picked up my 2008 for 1k because it was sitting a while. Spent next to nothing getting it going and had a blast. Slow but the handling made it worth riding. But at the end of the day the lack of power caused me to sell.
It's bang in the budget section of bikes along with the Z650, MT07 and CB650R. These bikes aren't cheap like they used to be, but in an age of £20k - £30k bikes in dealers, these are at the cheaper end, hence the term budget. They are great bikes for relatively little money. We don't pay dealer fees but we do pay for registration.
Suzuki ruined the V2 sound, it was perfect on the Gladius. Other than that, 90s technology and mini-bike suspension. Not justifying the price, kept it just for 1,5 years
@@Englishbikerdan I was totally against them, until the standard ones on my MT-01 were totally and utterly useless. Tried bar ends and now complete convert...

If you had to spend your hard earned (not high roller youtube channel) money on this or CB650R, which would you buy?
Haha, highroller! 😂 This, but mainly as I've already owned the CB650R.
you say perfect first big bike - so having used a 125 for virtually two years this would be a good step up or would people recommend a 300-500 first then 650 upwards?
You'd be fine going to this next I think.
Is it a v-twin? Are those clip-ons? Can be changed to straight bar?
Take my money 💰
Did you notice the speedo being off at higher speeds?
Most are, usually 10% or so.
Suzuki forever!
The sv650, the modern bonnie.
I’m sorry i must have missed it but how comfortable is the seat compared to say the CB650R?
Probably about the same for me.
@@Englishbikerdan awesome! Thank you!
Iv got the standard sc 650 on order in this colour and the optional seat , my question is the optional seat alot more comfortable than the standard seat and is the standard sv alot more comfortable to the ex . Thanks
Just looked it up on Suzuki in Australia and has been discontinued.
do you thing the kawasaki z800 is a good bike to buy?
Yeah, although I've not ridden it. It gets positive reviews though.
Nice bike and nice review. Would you prefer the Trident 660 or CB 650R over the SV650?
All three are good options for varying reasons. I'd probably take the SV or Trident as I've already owned the Honda.
Bang for the buc
Does anyone know if the 2007 sv 650 is reliable/good. To this date?
i'm wondering what is new in the 2022 XA compared to a 2019 XA? Or is it still 2019 XA... ???
I believe they are the same.
A bike, since Moses was in shorts ‼️🤣
Hey Dan, doesn't the sv650x have pre load adjustable front forks?
Thanks for the great review!
It does, which I mentioned in the vid. Thanks!
My ears must of cut off when you mentioned it, sorry dan
@@Fuzzbox1000 Mine do that when the Mrs starts nagging! 😂
@@Englishbikerdan golden🤣
Better than the Aprillia 660, don't need thousands in unwanted electronics
Well, no. But it's not really a fair comparison.
Don't buy this till you check out CFMoto 700 CLX Sport. Was taken aback by the CFs looks, engine, brakes, gear box, quality & handling
Hmm, can't say I'd choose that over an SV. But, you pays your money, you takes your chances. As they say in the circus (probably).
@@Englishbikerdan should try it if you haven't.
Suzuki ruined the V2 sound, it was perfect on the Gladius. Other than that, 90s technology and mini-bike suspension. Not justifying the price, kept it just for 1,5 years
Sadly, it's Europe that ruined it.
I see you bought the regular sv650
Yeah, more comfy for me.
Those mirrors!!!! Why not use bar ends would look loads better, other than that looks a nice bike
I can't stand bar ends personally. Maybe I'm old. 😂
@@Englishbikerdan I was totally against them, until the standard ones on my MT-01 were totally and utterly useless. Tried bar ends and now complete convert...
