You're very smart. I click on your website but there's no information on there as to where your eyewear store is? Do you have a physical address?

What other lens brands than Shamir that has an option for fixed designs? I don't like my progressive design that seems like a standard fixed 13 that my intermediate always interfere with my distance vision if i don't look slightly downward or maybe my frame is not tall enough (H 35mm) for progressives. I now realized that maybe i should have asked for a digital lens instead that acts like a bifocals.

great question, thanks for watching! Most of the high end lens brands (Essilor, Zeiss, Hoya) offer that feature on their top tier designs and even some "in house" lab specific lenses offer it... honestly it sounds to me like your SEG height may be off, this is a common issue and can be easily remeasured and adjusted by your optician. even if your fixed design isn't ideal for you, you should still be able to find your distance comfortably. Poor vision in your distance is typically either an RX or SEG height issue. Hope this helps! If I can ever help with your glasses, let me know... josh@enjoyoptical.co

Hi, thanks for this video. I wear progressives and chose Zeiss Smart Life lenses. They seem to work well for me but my optician didn’t use any mechanical gauge for any measurements. He just marked my glasses with a pen having agreed my eyes were sitting in the centre of my new frames (he said no to a couple of other frames I liked). Is that a usual method? Also, he didn’t want me to get the very individualised Zeiss lenses as he considers them too liable for error. I’d be grateful for your opinion, thanks😀

thank you for watching and engaging with 2 excellent questions! 1. Yes, marking where your pupil sits in the lens with a pen is a common and effective method. Though there is new technology for this experience, marking with a pen by a skilled optician who can help you find the proper posture, can be a preferred and best practice. 2. Depending on the lens your optician was referring to, there could be several different answers to this question... some progressive lenses have what is called "variable design" instead of "fixed design" most lens lab manufacturing managers will warn you that this method can be "liable for error" and I would agree. While variable sounds good, the calculations don't always translate into optimal real world use. | the second answer to this question has to do with taking "full custom measurements" (frame wrap, pantoscopic tilt, and vertex). Taking all of these measurements above and beyond the SEG height & PD opens up more opportunity for human error as these are difficult and somewhat subjective calculations. And when speaking with most professionals in the industry, the technology for digital measurement of frame wrap, pantoscopic tilt, and vertex has not helped decrease the margin for error.
All that to say, most industry leaders recommend (and I have found in real life with thousands of clients) for the SEG & PD to be used but to avoid the additional "custom measurements" substituting the general parameters that tend to be more accurate in a large sample size accounting for human error. The only not I would add here is if a frame has an extreme measurement (ie: full wrap around cycling sunglasses), taking the frame wrap measurement would be useful.
Long answer to an excellent question, hope this helps. If I can ever help you with your eyewear, let me know, josh@enjoyoptical.co
