what keeps the ink from draining down the tiny hole is liquid surface tension. all liquids have a surface tension and that's why liquids bead up on non absorbent surfaces. they stick to the surface and the liquid molecules won't move unless the tension is released, in the form of seeping into the paper in this scenario. it's the same concept in physics as putting a long piece of paper in coloured water and seeing it rise from bottom to top.
"I don't really need to know how -- I just need to know that it works." We're cut from the same cloth, apparently. ;-) Thanks for this demo. I have a couple of fluid writers (regular & fine) & lots of sample inks from Goulet Pens -- and thanks to your post, I now have lots of ideas for using 'em! Keep on doin' whatchur doin' - your posts are always helpful.
I think I used something like this back in the 80’s when I used to decorate Ukrainian eggs. I filled the item with wax. Your bookmark turned out beautiful.
Goodness I haven't seen this pen in ages! I have one from many moons ago. Bought it at a painting convention for use with watered down acrylic paints. Not sure where it is right now LOL! But yes it did work very well for that medium as well. Thank you in advance for your wonderful heart for raising funds for Ukraine. Been praying for the country all week. TFS
I’ve ordered the pen, looks like fun. Thank you in advance for your support for Ukraine and for any Ukrainians that may be reading I’m sending love and support ❤️
Love this! I have both pens in my amazon cart now! Will wait a bit to order as I won’t have much time to use them this week anyway Son’s birthday is Saturday and my husband is still recovering from foot surgery so I am the chief errand runner this week.
The bookmark turned out so pretty. Love the purples with the gold… and I have to say my doodles NEVER turn out as pretty as yours. 😊Thanks for sharing.
I've seen those online and wondered how they work, kinda hypnotizing watching the gold ink run threw it 😀 i'd prob forget to clean it and wreck the thing beyond repair
What a beautiful bookmark, thank you for sharing it. By the way, the science behind the fluid writer is a mixture of the surface tension and the cohesiveness of the ink. Love from Germany 💜
I'm thinking about picking one of these up. I draw a lot, and have even made my own pens, but I've never used something quite like this. I'd think alcohol based inks might drip right out. Curious how terp thinned oil washes would work... I'm no scientist, but I think surface tension keeps water-based ink from just dripping out constantly. Thanks for the video explaining these things!
Your work is so beautiful 😍 You are truly talented, and I love watching you paint and color. My doodling skills are not good; I'm too neat and clean to let myself go, lol
The bleach you used, do you neutralize it after it’s on the paper? When done on fabric you have to. It is beautiful. The bleach would make beautiful butterfly wings.
I suppose you could try-but it’s only a short video and took two days so you might not get far replicating it. You might either do the watercolor portion while watching, or some practice doodling.
I’ve been following this tutorial but having trouble with the fluid writer and the gold. I’m wondering if my writer is too small. Do you have a recommendation for what size writer works well with the WN gold ink?
@@SandyAllnock1 I received a two-pen set for Christmas, one with a "fine" tip (0.5mm) and one with an "extra-fine" tip (0.25mm) and the link to the fluid writer here is for a "large" fluid writer but the description says it has a "medium" tip but does not have a dimension. But that's why I was wondering if a larger size would be less fussy. The writer worked great and then it wouldn't work at all even after much cleaning. I got it to work with ink but each time I put gold in, it would stop working right away.
Thank you ! Do you think if you cover the part to fill ink with your thumb it will stop the ink flow, just incase you need to stop...i am thinking of painting on silk using this, so i definitely need some control...@SandyAllnock1
That writer is the spitting image of a “kistka”, the pen you use to apply wax for Easter egg dying “pysanky”. How apropo as you support the people of Ukraine. I join you in helping them.
Pretty

It looks like a tool I used for wax, for psyanky eggs(probably misspelled) the nib is finer on yours!

Just when I thought I could not love learning from you more. 😍😍😍
Your bookmark is beautiful. Looking forward to your video on Friday.

NICELY DETAILED, CLEARLY PRESENTED VIDEO OF THIS TOOL 👍
Glad it’s helpful!👍🏻
Wonderful
Wow, that was beautiful. I'll try to get back on Friday.
That is gorgeous! I came here after watching the explosion piece. I really loved that painting.
It’s so relaxing to just let color flow…and doodle beautiful nothingness. 🥰
Gorgeous..I used to use a Kistka...when I did silk painting...love your bookmark
That gold is magical! Loved the interplay of inks💖

As always I love the new intro. That bookmark looks like a coral reef of some sort. I love it! So pretty!!

You are amazing…love your artwork!
Such lovely colors, the gold is beautiful! Thank you for another tutorial.
That is amazing! My fave colors and a splash of gold. I need to try using all my fountain pen inks and do this. I have a lot lol
I want to use my inks more too - the fluid writer will help coz I'm lazy about cleaning out pens and swapping the inks! :)
THIS intrigues me!
Thank you for this demo, I have this pen ordered waiting for delivery. Loved how you used it, excited for delivery! 👩🎨👍❤️😘

Thanks for the info!
Wow! The colors you used are serene and mystical. So beautiful! Love it!
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks like a fun tool.
Thanks 😊
This is absolutely gorgeous!!! EVEN if I own all this inks and pens I could never make something so beautiful...absolutely love it...tfs
You can do it!
This is fabulous!
Beautiful!
Wow..so awesome..Nalyn leaf vlog
Absolutely beautiful bookmark Sandy! Bless you for raising funds for the Ukrainian refugees.
Beautiful 😍
Beautiful! It looks like a neurolines! Love it!
thank you!!!!
The fluid writer looks like its worth it just for use with the gold ink.

You’re most welcome! Come back and lmk your favorite medium that works in it👍🏻
Love the outcome. But love one done in watercolor more :P Please?? :)
Friday ❤️
@@SandyAllnock1 Hooray !!! Cleaning my ds palette now LOL
Very pretty! I love the look of doodles, but I haven’t had success with them. I think I try to micro-manage them too much. 💙💛🇺🇦
I totally understand - it takes a while to get the flow of what your own doodling style is. On Friday I'll have some tips for that :)
Your work is so beautiful 😍 You are truly talented, and I love watching you paint and color. My doodling skills are not good; I'm too neat and clean to let myself go, lol
Hello! Does it feel smooth like a ball pen ? Thank you!
Once it gets going yes - but if it gets jammed, no. :)

I just left it as is. It’s a bookmark so I’m not worried about it lasting forever ❤️
On Friday can we “doodle” along with you? Soooo if we can what colors or products are you using for the Friday piece?

OMG I am the first one to enjoy this video. Great book mark. Wonderful that you are raising money for Ukraine. Thank you for them
Sandy, where do you get the plastic sleeve that you put your bookmark in? Thanks and greetings from Halifax, Nova Scotia😁
It’s linked in the supplies in the description ❤️
How do you clean your pens and this writer? Is the ink water soluble?
Yes water soluble…clean under running water 👍🏻
Have you tried this with acrylic paint --very thinned out??
I haven't...
The bleach is just plain regular bleach? The stinky one used for cleaning etc?
Yup! Same stuff!
@@SandyAllnock1 Thank you :-) Much appreciated

I’ve been following this tutorial but having trouble with the fluid writer and the gold. I’m wondering if my writer is too small. Do you have a recommendation for what size writer works well with the WN gold ink?
Gold has particles in it that makes it fussy, just clean it regularly to keep it flowing.

Are those inks waterproof? Please advise…I love the look it gives!
Nope, various amounts lift.
Do results look different from a marker or pen?
No, it’s just the delivery method. I like the idea I can draw with any liquid. 😜
Thank you ! Was this a 0.5mm or 0.7mm ?
gosh, it was so long ago. I can’t remember. Sorry!
