I LOVED Gorf in the arcade so bought this one without hesitation when it was released. It DID NOT disappoint ! It's a super faithful cover of the arcade game. I don't understand how this wasn't higher frankly... I always thought that the game DID rip off a few 80s pop culture icons, like obviously the Space Invaders aliens in the first level, TIE Fighters in the third and a Klingon Battleship looking end boss from the FASA Star Trek RPG. But in my 12 year old mind as today I was here for it !
As fun as this game is i find it a little underwhelming on the 2600. Don't get me wrong, its fun and looks great but there is something to it that seems missing on this port. I do like how it makes you truly are on a mission with the different screens. Its like advancing different waves of enemies.
Gorf is one of my all-time favorite classic arcade games. All of the ports that I've ever played of course our excellent game system ports. And I still say Kermit the Frog as a favorite arcade game called gorf. Lol after all there's the classic Sesame Street skit where he gets a Kermit the gorf T-shirt LOL
The mechanics of your shot disappearing when you shoot again is a game breaker for me. I'm not a huge Gorf fan to begin with. I just feel there are much better shooters out there. Phoenix is a prime example to me of a multi-screen shooter that does it right.
The alternative was to fire the shot and then have to sit back and wait until it reaches the top of the screen if you miss. The "quark laser" was a major feature at the time, and it's still pretty unique as far as these sorts of 2D shooters go.
I love Gorf, have an original arcade machine (notorious to keep running due to custom chips). The 2600 version is good within the system's limitations, especially fitting in 4 levels (DK only managed 2). In my book you're not far off, I would place a bit higher, 60-70 maybe. Anyway, another great vid, keep 'em coming!
Demon Attack - 9, Phoenix - 24, Gorf - 117. Well tastes differ and I would have Gorf highest, Phoenix middle and Demon Attack lowest. Maybe if it had the Galaxian wave?
Gorf is fantastic. It is a flagship game on the VIC-20 and really looks good on that platform. I used to have it for the 2600 I am sure .. wonder where it is?

Still can’t believe you got Chopper Command ranked at 120! It in my top 10.

I love Demon Attack! I think Gorf is one of the better games on the Atari 2600.
Demon attack, spider Man,and the Smurf are my 3 fave Atari games

I just played this game last week :D
Gorf!
When I was on Ebay, I mistaked GORF for Gravitar.
The game is "FROG" .... Oh wait the box was in front of my bedroom mirror ... My bad
lol
Hard game but if you get good at it you can roll the score. The graphics in the 10,000s place will start to get garbled graphics for the digit.
I had this game..lol..I would be like ,you guys wanna play frog backwards?lol
Check out the Colecovision version. Better gameplay and graphics. Worse controller.
You really need to play Pitfall 2.
