vipassana is great... when practising I recover sensations of old sports injuries and sometimes even flavours and smells.

I saw a chipmunk once, and a squirrel was there too. Then a pigeon landed nearby and picked up a french fry remnant left behind by a human - probably a younger human. It made me think of my Aunt Alice because I saw her leave a french fry remnant behind one time many years ago and it attracted ants. I thought, how profound - an aunt attracting ants.

actually it was a you the watcher attracting an Aunt to view through your eyes, who then attracted the ants, for you, to be able to make this observation

    Interesting experience.
Could one buy some tapes to learn Vipassana meditation by himself/herself?
Did you try Robert Monroe methods? On the same vein Tom Campbell speaks about the Hemi Sync , Interesting also is Tom's Speech in Calgari.
    Thank you.

In response to David below and extending the remit of what vipassana 'means'. Within the discourse series and additionally with literature given to students (On Goenka 10 day course) it states the passana term, originally translated 'to see things' and the modifier Vip to Vipassana means to 'see things as they really are' which is precisely what you have stated, so perhaps take refuge in that you haven't criticised as it is no different to the phenomenological ontology of 'any' vipassana method

very honest and self-reflective account of these kinds of retreats. hopefully you've gone back to another... I think having 'vipassina lite' come up as a thought is a good indication you're efforting in the right way. good video and good luck.

I encourage you to research Buddhist meditation beyond just the Goenka approach. When you say vipassana is about "focussing on and scanning different parts of the body"you are right that this is how it is taught by Goenka. But in fact vipassana is about seeing All things just as they are, including all aspects of experience.I don't mean to be critical.I just say this so you know that the Goenka method, though claimed by followers to be THE method taught by Buddha,is just one interpretation.

hum.... it sounds abit more of an intellectual experience than a change in feelings? perhaps i would be inclined to travel to an island or a mountain to absorb the environment and get observe and see new perspectives in meditation and in feelings and energy and calm. so, where would be the best place for a dojo??? maybe just a rock in a mountain with some fry ups and a bubble hotel? shall someone make a bubble hotel spiritual retreat centre on a mountain someplace?

is the breath a cult? is the sensations a cult? if they are cults, then Vipassana is so!

  • @trissuper1

Glad u mention it is just one approach. It is sold like the true one real method from ancient scriptures. Please do be critical, the buddha encouraged us not to believe just what others say and be your own guide to truth. I think this goenka style lacks kindness towards the mind. A lot of force is used instead of letting things go. Its just my experience with this goenka retreat. but then again a lot of people do benefit from it.

Vipassana is not scanning the body. Thats one tiny part of Vipassana starte level. Vipassana is supposed to help you realise the impermanence of all things, which leads to insight into the cause of suffering, and the absence of a self
There are things which are just emotion, just mind, just abstract phenomena, just physical.. But in the west people think Vipassana is sitting ini the same position acheing for hours.. that is not vipassana. These stupid teachers try to teach westerners to practice Vipassana by sitting in torturous positions for long time is wrong. Such a practice might be ok for somebody ordained as a forest monk for a decade doing all the other preliminaries first. Its ot ab out physicality and the body, and all these post vipassana course videos on youtube are making me realise that there is a mass fake vipassana movement around the world confusing kids of every nation. And can you westerners stop calling it 'vipashana' its a double ss not a shhhh

Where do i meet actually attractive women like your self that is interested in spiritual philosophical issues like you are? I keep finding that when i go to meet ups or gatherings, everyone is above 40 and nowhere with looks of your nature. and yes i get it,, looks dont matters, but lets put this aside... i see you have a wedding ring on you, your husband must be exhilarated to have such a hot wife that actually cares deeper than what clothes she will put on next. This is my frustration that my interests does not seem to ever bring me close to women i actually physically find attractive, and its annoying.

Arnold Nagy it doesn't hurt that her husband is the incredibly talented music director, composer, arranger, current music supervisor of Hamilton Alex Lacamoire. He's pretty amazing in his own right and while I agree with you that she is a very attractive woman who sees that working on yourself on the inside is just as important as the outside, I'd be willing to bet she'd say she's just as lucky to be married to him as he is to be married to her. I just found your post a little off putting like you were taking a retreat where you're supposed to be working on yourself and you were treating it like a singles bar
