Pete’s Dragon: I Saw A Dragon (Full Song and Dance): Footage Combined -Please Read Description-.

- This is something I’ve been meaning to work on for a while now and with my re-editing of the Try Not To Laugh Challenges, I figured why not and finally pieced together the deleted footage I found from on youtube for the song “I Saw a Dragon from Pete’s Dragon and combine it with the actual film footage.
Since the audio isn’t as strong in the footage version I remembered the full lyrics are in the soundtrack release so I took the audio from there combined it with that footage and edited all together to show what it would have looked like in the finished version of the film
An odd thing occurred though when there is a weird brief pause near the end of the extended part which I took out, but it makes it seem as though it makes that part before they say “Nothing Anywhere” natural pause if that makes sense.
Here are the sources I used:
Finished Film version of I Saw A Dragon: • I saw a dragon
Soundtrack version: • Pete's Dragon - I Saw ...
Deleted Footage: • PETE'S DRAGON long-los...
All I used was Imovie quick and easy.
I do not own the film, soundtrack or anything regarding the film Pete’s Dragon this is simply for entertainment and historical purposes all rights go to the Walt Disney Company. My posting of this video is within the boundaries of Fair Use!
I uploaded the outtake initially. Thank you for putting this back together so I didn’t have to. Even though it is not 100% perfect at least it gives you an example of what Disney has been holding back on us for all these years. Rex Harrison won an Oscar and a Tony for basically doing what is basically the prototype of rap, but when Helen Reddy does it, they cut it out but Red Buttons screaming they have no problem with? This is why I have pointed out how Disney has played favorites with its history of the mixing of Live action and animation, and baby boomer cultural hegemony plays a huge part in it. Let those who grew up with the Disney of Generation X have their Brazzle dazzle day in the sun!
Well, thank you for uploading it. I never knew about the scene until I saw it from you. I’m glad I was able to finish what you brought to light.
@@disneyknowledge9432 Disney is weird about this. Between 1967 and 1977, they made some of the greatest movie musicals of all time, and they had no idea what to do with them in an era when rock 'n' roll was the dominant genre. If anything, Nora is what I expected a child of Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney to look like more than Liza Minnelli, if you want me to be perfectly honest. No disrespect to Liza intended, of course.
@@Attmay Well, this was the height of the “What Would Walt Have Done? Era” where those in control of the company rather than come up with new and different ideas they stuck with what they knew and what worked rather than moving forward. While there were good ones like Robin Hood and Bedknobs and Broomsticks, it was mostly safe family friendly matinee type flicks giving work to character actors nobody would really hire.
@@disneyknowledge9432 they still have trouble attracting top talent if Tim Burton doesn't want to work there anymore, and he started his career there.
@@disneyknowledge9432 And thank goodness for that. Love those character actors!
This is without a doubt the best scene in the movie!!!!! What did they think Nora was gonna do when they put her on the bar?
Whole film was good.
This song comes into my head whenever I see dragons in movies or shows since it was burned into my head in childhood ; ). Mickey Rooney was really giving it his all, as well as all the rest. Very enjoyable. Good to see the excerpts.
Drinking, smoking, alcoholism....you'll never see any of this in a Disney movie again!
The movie is filmed in Australia, famous for their beer.
Nope just transgender, lgtbqxyz progressive alphabet mafia nonsense.
@@Rlotpir1972 Nope. All of filming was done in the good old U.S. of A. Point Buchon, California, USA
(Lighthouse scenes)
Morro Bay, California, USA
Walt Disney's Golden Oak Ranch - 19802 Placerita Canyon Road, Newhall, California, USA
Walt Disney Studios, 500 South Buena Vista Street, Burbank, California, USA
Santa Clarita, California, USA
You’ll also never see a bunch of men in a bar oogle over a woman and in front of her dad even though he’s heavily intoxicated lol
Mickey Rooney I always a talent actor for many years he definitely good in Pete's dragon
May he RIP
What I wanna know is who's paying for all those popped-bung barrels of beer~? 😅 That's going on _someone's_ tab, and it ain't gonna be pretty! 🤣🍻
The part they don't show is the bar owner going out business and a year's worth of beer is spilled on the floor and nobody paid for their drinks...
Dragons have gold, you know
RIP Mickey Rooney 1920-2014 and Helen Reddy 1941-2020
The only ones left alive of the core cast as far as I know are Jim Dale and Pete himself Sean Marshall.
dang. This was awesome. I really wish they had those deleted scenes in the theatrical version of this film.
I never knew there was parts of the song cut out. This was the best scene in the movie.
Nice to see this song restored to a more complete version. I was surprised, though, to realize that the"deleted" footage actually comes from Disney's Super 8 movie release of a short sequence from *Pete's Dragon* -- that was a thing in the days before home video, kids. I had that Super 8 version of *Pete's Dragon,* but somehow between watching it, listening to the complete version on the soundtrack album, and watching the later VHS video release, I never put it together that the Super 8 version contained material that was not in the movie.
This movie got me thru so much household craziness in the 80s as a kid I just hid out and stuck to my Pete's Dragon and Charlotte Web 🤗
Better Than WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT for PETE'S DRAGON
@@danieldrebsky44 of Charlotte’s Web did you know the songs written for that film for me by the same musical team that gave you the jungle book the Aristocats, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Winnie the Pooh? Mary Poppins. And Bedknobs and broomsticks. I was referring to the Sherman brothers and from the animation team that gave you Scooby Doo, the Smurfs and the Jetsons.
I See
Helen Reddy could belt out a damn catchy tune! ❤❤❤she was a treasure!!!!
Yes she was. Also I find it both funny and kind of cool that for Family Guy Blue Harvest during The Red Wings Standing By they actually were able to have Helen Reddy come in to just say “Helen Reddy Standing By”.
Too bad it was released around the same time as Star Wars. Should have been a hit. Film is an absolute gem.
I’ll bet they had a blast making this!
You are to be congratulated! This is as close to a restored version of these scene as we are going to get. Bravo!
Thank you. I appreciate that.
Yes, but you forgot when he sang “It was there!”
@@harrystoller4147 So they forgot three words. It doesn't ruin the song.
@@harrystoller4147 Actually I intentionally left that part out so the singing will flow better in that part of the song.
Lampie doesn't get to much credit for this part of his character which is how protective he is of his family even though he's scared to death after seeing Elliot he pulls Nora in the tavern so she'd be safe from the dragon he saw and later tried to wave of the gogans when they tried to take Pete during bill of sale even though he didn't say anything
Last night, I rewatched this film for the first time in nearly twenty years. It brought me back to my childhood days.
Aw, that's nice.
I completely forgot how crazy this movie was as a kid. Coming back, I still love every bit of it.
@@Mr.Stricken There is some great musical numbers in this film besides this sequence. My favorites are:
"It's Not Easy",
"Pasamaquaddy",
"Candle on the Water",
"Money by the Pound",
"Brazzle Dazzle Day",
"Bill of Sale",
"Happiest Home in These Hills" is decent. I will say though I like how there is four villain songs in one film. That one, Passamaquaddy, Money by the Pound and Bill of Sale.
The only song I feel could be cut and not miss anything is "There's Room For Everyone". That is the only one I feel slows things down.
@@disneyknowledge9432 I have great memories of hiding behind my mom at the very start of the movie when the evil family pops out of the forest. Now, it’s one of my favorite songs: “He went that-a-way!” “He went this-a-way!” Some absolute great acting.
@@Mr.Stricken Yeah when I first saw the film growing up that part freaked me out as well.
Mickey Rooney was priceless in this 😂
He was a great character actor. Some films I recommend watching that he was in include:
Night at the Museum,
Santa Claus is Comin to Town,
The Black Stallion,

I’ve seen Night at the Museum.

This was every Friday night when I was in college...
The good lord part is in the soundtrack and it is my favorite part
I had this song on one of those little 45 records. I remember listening to that thing so much.
2:45-49 Lampie's reaction to the horse cracks me up! :D
I got the movie on blu ray and was utterly disappointed when they cut this sequence out....literally my favorite movie and they should have released it unrated in its original form fully restored.
The footage has been gone from releases since it’s original showing and as another commenter said what is in here is from a Super 8 film Reel so who knows if Disney even still has this footage or not. Similar to the Step in the Right Direction scenes for Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
Unbelievable this is one of my dad’s favorite movies and they had edit this after the premiere
I would one day love to see a restored version of One and Only Genuine Original Family Band which was originally over 150 minutes.
Oooh I agree however the footage might be lost considering Disney has not even touch it
And they don’t plan to release it anytime soon
I really wish they would recreate the lost musical number a step in the right direction from Bedknobs and Broomsticks using the still photos using animation 2d and 3D to recreate the movements and repeat some shots
Totally fangtactic and clawsome
I used to watch this movie 24/7, haha
I didn't watch it as much as Bedknobs and Broomsticks or Mary Poppins, but every once in a while growing up.
@@disneyknowledge9432 Ooo, you ever watch Nanny McPhee?
Look how badly you could just casually wreck a bar in Passamaquoddy.
The very first movie I saw!!!! 🐲 always in my top 10...always believe!!!
It wouldn’t be in my top ten, but I do have a soft spot for it.
This was very very funny.. and the SUDS
I can't be the only one who finds it hilarious of Lampy all speaking gibberish. 🤣🤣🤣
My grandma pat she liked Pete's dragon because one she liked Mickey Rooney and Judy garland
He was a great talent, but I learned it was because of his height he wasn't able to have as good of roles as he could have had. Plus add in him unable to manage money and so many failed marriages the guy kind of really had a sad life despite all of the years of entertaining.
Lampy - I saw a dragon he’s literally satan and he ate a baby true story
Eliot - it ain’t easy being green… hey I need to go help some kids escape domestic abuse I’ll be back tonight and make an apple pie! We can play scrabble!!! See ya!!!
I guess there never was a dragon. Let us now destroy a person's entire livelihood in order to highlight this point.
Reaction seeing a dragon 😂😂😂😂😂
This was the Christmas Show at Radio City Music Hall. I was twelve but I remember it so well. Now it blows my mind to think that Mickey Rooney was a year younger than I am now! Where did the time go?
Lampie was horrified by Elliott completely!.
This is great! Is there also a version where the repose is on it as well?
Yeah after Elliot saves the day and is proclaimed a hero the town changes their tune with a reprise of “I Saw a Dragon”: ruclips.net/video/2kaTCIhkuj0/видео.html
Looks like this might be a small town. When Nora asked the customers "Has anyone seen my dad?", all of them pointed to him. All of them knew that those 2 were father & daughter.
@gelnnm.garcia6964 Maybe the whole neighborhood knew them and knew they were the lighthouse owners which is why they all pointed to Lampie after she said "has anyone seen my dad?"
I love this movie and I love this song
Great underrated Disney film and musical especially when the genre was basically dead at this point in time.
This is the one scene I remember from the movie.
Nora is so brave she didn't get that from her father
Lampie may not be as brave as Nora but he doesn't get enough credit for moments where he's protective of his family such as pulling Nora in the tavern so she'll be safe from the dragon he saw and even though he stays quiet he's shown trying to wave the gogans off during bill of sale when they come to take Pete back
@user-eg7xi4mo1x Maybe she inherited being brave from her mother who must have passed away since her mother was never seen while her father is scared.
This song and movie made me fall in love with Mickey Rooney when I was a child and he remains my #1 all time actor. He really was one of the greatest of the greatest of the greatest.
This film was my introduction to him as well.
@@disneyknowledge9432 For me, it was either this, or The Black Stallion. I can't remember which one I saw first as a child. Either way, I will still always see him as the greatest of the greatest.
This was the first movie I saw in which Mickey Rooney appeared on-screen. Technically, the first movie I saw that featured him was "The Fox and the Hound" but in that he was only voicing grown-up Tod. He was truly one of the acting greats, from early roles in movies like "National Velvet" to "Night at the Museum" when he was well past retirement age.
@@DamonNomad82 He acted his entire life since he was 18 months old. He practically was in 3 to 5 movies to tv shows nearly every year for 93 three years straight. You should look for the movies he did in his teen years with his co star Judy Garland. They're some of my favorites of his.
2:48
Thanks I've been trying to find this scene for over a decade lol
You’re welcome. I’m glad that I could help.
Oh, this takes me back. Don't make em like they used to.
At least someone got to hold her even though it wasn't Lena's two sons who didn't get to Even though they wanted to.
Fair enough.
@johnsheehan7215 Well, Lena's husband then wanted to hold her which made Lena jealous saying "if you are going to hold her like my two boys want to hold her, you're going to be holding your head" like she was saying "you're married to me and you hold me and nobody else."
2:40 I can’t believe Disney was cool with having that in their movie
Well this was an in between era as it was at least ten years after Walt’s death, but that is tame in comparison to the fact there is a playboy magazine in Unidentified Flying Oddball and all of what Disney would never allow nowadays in Midnight Madness.
What? He grabbed her in a bar…you gotta stop watching so much daytime tv and getting your education from Facebook headlines
this is my favorite song in this movie. mickey was better then he was as a kid
The song is good, but it’s not better than Candle On the Water, Brazzle Dazzle Day and Every Little Piece. I haven’t seen much of his early stuff like the Andy Hardy days so I don’t know.
Though a vocalist of limited powers, Mickey was a great showman. Check out *Babes in Arms* (1939), *Strike Up the Band* (1940), and *Girl Crazy* (1943) -- all musicals in which he co-starred with Judy Garland. His career went all the way back to vaudeville and silent movies, but he first came to truly national acclaim for his role in *Boys Town* (1938). From 1939 to 1941, he was so hugely popular that he was Hollywood's top box office draw.
Even Mickey Rooney in IT'S A MAD,MAD,MAD,MAD WORLD! 1963
Good Job. 👏🏼
@@TroublesomeSlateTruck Thank you.
Nice job! Not perfect, obviously, but still gives you a good sense of what the original version of this scene was like from the 134 minute premiere cut shown at Radio City Music Hall on November 3,1977. After this, the movie was edited down to 121 minutes for its general release in late 1977, early 1978 and again to 104 minutes for its 1984 re-release. Unfortunately, a lot of the excised material has never been restored and is possibly lost.
I did the best I could with what was available to me. Also I intentionally left out the part by Lampy saying “It was there!” to help with the flow of the song.
@@disneyknowledge9432 and you did a great job!
That reminds me, I also remember seeing a TV edit in the late 80s and early 90s that was even shorter. A lot of the musical numbers were eliminated and many longer scenes were greatly shortened. For example, the "Candle on the Water" sequence with Nora on the lighthouse gallery was cut and the song (complete with Helen Reddy's vocals) was instead played over the opening credits; the "Happiest Home In These Hills" sequence had the titular musical number sung by the Gogans cut; and "I Saw A Dragon" was greatly shortened and faded from the bar flies repeating the word "Dragon, dragon, dragon...." to Nora walking Lampie and his bicycle back to the lighthouse, among other things.
@@gabrielbennett5162 yep, that's what we've got in Italy and i think in the rest of Europe too. Money by the pound and Bill of sale were also shortened :(
First VHS/Beta Release was Cut to 105 Mins in The Early Neon Mickey Series.
nice work man....
Thank You Very Much. I really appreciate it.
If any Disney movie deserves a sequel or a broadway musical, it’s this one
@@lordofthegames6601 I remember seeing a webpage in the mid-2000's that listed a whole bunch of upcoming films that I'm not sure if they were real things planned or just a fan website. It listed things like an AristoCats 2, a Pete's Dragon 2, the Missing Mickey film and a bunch of other stuff that never ended up being made.
A broadway show would be interesting. Though I am not sure how they would do Elliot on stage.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@dougearnest7590 Relax. None of that ended up happening and the trend for Disney Remakes (fingers crossed) is drawing to a close. Plus it helps they kicked out Sean Bailey the guy in charge of the remakes earlier this year.
Nora acts more like the parent and Lampie acts like the child.
@@DestinyRogers-mt6vq I would tend to disagree. He freaked out tried to warn everyone and she is just more levelheaded than him.
