Can we please get this level of coverage BEFORE the 2025 Australian election? I know the ABC has been scared of accurately covering Aussie politics since Howard cut funding and ScoMo filled the board with former Liberal politicians but the media has a responsibility to inform the voters.
Having watched each and every episode of this series I have to say that this is unequivocally some of the best journalism I have seen in quite a while. At first I was amazed that such quality reporting about our own f-ed up election and political system came out of Australia. But the more I thought about it the more I realized that it is truly an indictment of the American media system as a whole. It seems that no network or platform in the US has the wherewithal or the balls to do something like this. Kudos to ABC for this example of first rate journalism.
The best coverage of the US election anywhere. As a Brit, I enjoyed the "Who Broke Britain" series, but this one was a different level. Hope there's more in-depth series in the future!
And the best part is, none of the U.S. news outlets bothered to provide this depth of coverage and context like Australia’s ABC did. I’ll give it to Australia for this.

There education system, especially in red states has been gutted beyond belief, and they are easily programmable with propaganda. If you believe so vestments in god, the Bible, the kiddy fiddling churchies it’s easy to get programmed with propaganda for political agendas, especially when they wrap the things into one cultish football team of devotion.

American here. I voted for Harris and have been severely sick to my stomach since the election. I definitely feel like our nation is lost. And Trump is a master manipulator. He used people’s anger against them. I see now how Hitler did it. I am very afraid now. I never thought this would happen.
America is an oligarch. When you have only two options it can seem that way. People are just trying to survive. And can you blame them? Biden in his second day of office signs executive orders about trans rights in sports yet does nothing for years to address the border crisis. This sends people the wrong message on where a governments priorities are.

And sleepy Joe did nothing about all of this.

Imagine this: A foreign network that does a better job at reporting news than our domestic broadcasters. Ah, that would be the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation). They do great work, and I rely on that foreign perspective, along with other foreign outlets, to receive balanced news reporting. A third of eligible voters didn’t vote in the 2024 presidential election and despite for Trump’s win in the popular vote, in reality he only represents about a third of the eligible voter population. Not much of a mandate, but that is also irrelevant.
Sunlight was never effective in decontaminating the slime in the public square, and now it’s flowing in the sewers. I will definitely be listening out for that programme and hope that Matt’s entire career is taken up with continuing the IYL series, even if he has other plans.
This has been an outstanding series, that I've thoroughly enjoyed from its outset - I would love to see a thought-experiment running through all the possible likely outcomes for the next four years...
Great series, however I fail to accept that the vast majority of Americans wanted Trump back in. The vast majority of the registered voters did, but considering they don't have mandatory voting, who knows.
And it was not a perception that Trump was victim of censorship - he was indeed victim of censorship. NOTE: I'm not American - I'm Brazilian. I have always voted for what in the US would be considered "extreme left" but we here call "social democracy" or center left leaning towards the center and not the left.
Loved this series. What the Trump voters don't realize is that while our government is far from perfect, it could be A LOT worse. And that's the most likely outcome with Trump. A lot worse.

Let them eat cake is utilized when someone in power decides to not take in the severity of the issue. People know full and well what they signed up for. Hardly a case of not taking it seriously.

Imagine this: A foreign network that does a better job at reporting news than our domestic broadcasters. Ah, that would be the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation). They do great work, and I rely on that foreign perspective, along with other foreign outlets, to receive balanced news reporting. It gives me a better perspective as to what's going on in other places on the planet.

It’s a Carnivale where the main attractions are playing an inverted version of themselves. The thing about a carnivale is that most people get tired of the craziness which is why it only lasts for one day a year, but some prefer it to normal life. And IMHO that is why so many are leaving Xitter and moving to BlueSky. One day or week a year of disruptive craziness a is enough.

A third of eligible voters didn’t vote in the 2024 presidential election and despite for Trump’s win in the popular vote, in reality he only represents about a third of the eligible voter population. Not much of a mandate, but that is also irrelevant.

Great series, however I fail to accept that the vast majority of Americans wanted Trump back in. The vast majority of the registered voters did, but considering they don't have mandatory voting, who knows.
There's another problem: censorship is totally contrary to a fundamental idea in American culture - freedom of expression.
And it was not a perception that Trump was victim of censorship - he was indeed victim of censorship.
NOTE: I'm not American - I'm Brazilian. I have always voted for what in the US would be considered "extreme left" but we here call "social democracy" or center left leaning towards the center and not the left.

What the Trump voters don't realize is that while our government is far from perfect, it could be A LOT worse. And that's the most likely outcome with Trump. A lot worse.
