  • Ever since outdoor market season started I've been a little down, I don't mean to keep bringing up this whole reseller situation but it's my reality right now and all I've been seeing. Last year I was the only one selling crochet flowers at this event, but this year there were 7 other vendors! Although there were those that handmade their crochet goods, most of the crochet vendors were resellers of products from Temu/Shein/etc.
    I haven't signed up for many outdoor markets this summer so hopefully I can focus on building up stock for a super busy August convention series!
    Also, my online store is now open! If you would like to build your own bouquet online, my website is www.madewithapril.com
    I appreciate all the support! I've got a couple new designs including magnolia branches and spider lilies!

    It breaks my heart to see such hardworking pure soul getting undermined by those Shein, temu etc. You genuinely make the most beautiful flowers and the quality shows, but people keep going for the cheap quality stuff for the sake of prices.

      I try to think that people who buy the cheaper products probably wouldn't buy my stuff anyway, but seeing the $$ comparison from the same market last year is discouraging 😭

    I think with the current seller market it would be beneficial for you to have a large "HAND MADE BY ME" sign. I know as a customer I would definitely gravitate towards your table more compared to re-sellers. You're killin it

    With all of these resellers, I would definitely suggest making a “Handmade by me” sign or “handmade in ‘Location’”. It’s really hard when it comes in vending in a general audience type of event. Especially when you don’t know how many similar vendors to yourself with also be there.
    I did a past event that place me with 5 other pet related vendors….side by side each other 🙄🤨 Some event coordinators really only care about filling up the venue instead of taking into consideration of having a well rounded variety of vendors.
    Also, girl NEVER question yourself on your craft. Your work is beautiful and so well made. I mean you even take into consideration of how you pack the flowers for transport and taking the time to wrap each purchase in person! We see you and all of your hard work. I’m so proud to be a continue supporter of someone who takes pride in their passion. Onto the next show 😤💖

      That's crazy about having all the pet vendors side by side omg but I've definitely experienced similar things where I've been next to a bunch of other crochet vendors. You're definitely right about it being a general audience event, it's been a while since I've done one of these since I've been wanting to do more cons instead and I forgot what they can be like 😅

    It's honestly such a shame that markets like this don't check the vendors for resellers when the whole premise is about everything being handmade... Hopefully, they'll do a better job next year at screening the sellers. I'm excited to see you're going to Otakuthon this year! I'll be bee-lining to your booth for sure! 😄

      I think due to the sheer # of vendors they aren't able to fully vet everyone. Thank you so much!! I won't be able to attend this time unfortunately but say hi to Shirley who will be attending for me!! (Or be weird and let me know how she reacts HAHA)

    As a 12 year old crocheter (starting to sell my items), these videos really give me an understanding of how the markets and stuff really work. Thank you so much, you made my day! ❤

    I recently started watching your videos after seeing you at Calgary Expo and the YT algorithm started suggesting your channel. I actually stopped at your booth on Sunday but it was full of people and my group wanted to keep moving so I didn't get a chance to talk to you. I was disappointed at how many other crochet flower vendors I saw (not sure if you were able to walk the entire event - imo there were even more than 7 other vendors, though I wasn't counting closely). That said, after looking at them all, it was pretty clear that yours were the highest quality, with the most variety and detail. I look forward to picking up a bouquet at another event or from your website. Keep your chin up, resellers are incredibly frustrating but people who appreciate truly handmade items will be able to see the difference and appreciate you

      omg that's crazy 😱 I originally thought about walking around and taking some pics but there were just so many more than I thought and I got overwhelmed 🦀
      I really do appreciate hearing you say that, it means a lot to me!! Thank you 😭🩷

    i was one of the ones who specifically went to the event for you! it was so lovely to meet you ☺️ i've been checking back regularly on your shop since you said to hopefully see the silent princess be restocked at the end of the month, and i made my order today! i'm so excited to get them.
    you also inspired me to start crocheting flowers for fun! i've only just started but i'm really enjoying the process. it definitely gives another level of appreciation for your skill ☺️
    best of luck at your upcoming events!!

    These markets just want to try and bring people in by boasting about how many vendors they will have. So they don’t really vet anyone. They just want their event to seem very huge. I hope you start to travel more and try to get into more anime conventions. Either ways I just got an email saying my stuff would get here by the 14th.
    I also think your social media leads more to online sales. Please show more love to your online store.

    I feel like re-sellers usually move with the trends. I think you will see a lot of re-sellers selling crochet flowers and then they will move on to something else. I am hoping the real artists like you will still be around when they have moved on to selling another Temu item....btw, I am waiting for payday to make a purchase on your online store. Starting my Christmas shopping early...lol. I want to get my flowers before you sell out :)

    I saw a video “short” you made about being discouraged about your work. So after a bit of research about what you do… I decided to purchase your flowers as a bday gift for my daughter, rather than fresh flowers. (The quality for the price has been diminished greatly. I was not pleased with what was delivered last year)… So I thought, why not purchase “art” and permanence.
    I pray that you can experience peace as well as income. I do “art-ing” and settling into the balance is a journey.

    I'm sorry there were so many resellers this year! Your work is beautiful and it sucks that people aren't really realising the time that is put in to crochet (or other handmade crafts in general).
    I converted your prices to GBP so I could get a better idea, and they're so low! Hopefully this specific reselling trend dies down and you can charge higher prices closer to what your work is worth!

    I'm starting to think i got bamboozled by two booths at a craft fair I went to (And this organization really does prefer to feature artisan and handmade goods). I tried to look up their booths so I could see their shops and I couldn't get any info. Starting to realize I supported resellers. I didn't even think crocheted things could be made so cheaply and they were priced like the other handmade stuff soooooo I thought they were legit.

    The Temu sellers are so annoying 😔 Walked through my local shopping centre and there was a full booth FULL of drop shipped flowers for the literal same price that I sell my handmade ones.. and her booth was very busy. Absolutely heartbreaking 😔💔

    Do you have any suggestions on how consumers can identify resellers? My current solution is to start googling the vendor and looking for their social media.

    • @Brodmann312
      @Brodmann312 17 дней назад

      They may lack a consistent theme of product line, colors, materials used, and overall brand cohesiveness. Granted, sometimes people are just starting out and trying a bunch of stuff. You can always ask them about their work and see how they answer. Most people that make their own goods and art are happy to give you details, because they actually know how things were made and care about their business.

    • @madewithapril
      @madewithapril  17 дней назад

      If they don't really use social media, have signs that don't allow photos, can't really answer questions about the type of yarn or hooks they use, it's not a good sign. Also, if you use Google lens to look up their products and can find them on temu and shein it's not a good sign!

    Please please don’t record yourself while driving! It’s irresponsible to endanger yourself, other drivers, and those outside of vehicles around the road like that. Many countries are banning touching devices while driving altogether because this is such a major issue, so I was shocked and upset to see a seemingly compassionate person do it :/

      I only do it when I feel its safe, like in very slow traffic or when stopped but you're right! I shouldn't be doing it at all. Definitely noted for the future!
