    I am actually more impressed by your idea and implementation of Grid than your scooter. Of course your scooter has the best spec among e-Scootes, but that would probably come with a hefty pricetag. But, your network of chargers is really commendable and first of its type in India. I hope you expand it in other cities as well and soon others follow the suit. Without a grid of chargers EV revolution will never happen.

    It was a very clever idea to embed charger inside the chesy. This would definitely help as show owners / malls can povide charging spot for the scooter. All they need to do is setup a sub meter to calculate electricity consumed.

    • @AtherEnergyElectric
      @AtherEnergyElectric  6 лет назад

      That was the intent ;) On top of that, the vehicle is smart enough to calculate the total electricity consumed, hence eventually the need for a sub-meter is not present.

      Hey Vishal, the electric scooters which are currently being ridden in the market have a very low power rating of 250-300 W, and these don't require a license. Ours will need a license as it's comparable to any scooter in the 110-125 cc bracket in terms of power.

    I appreciate someone took steps to develop .But there are gaps which should not be there after years of product development.Why do you need so big disc brakes .It essentially shows regenerative braking is not good enough .Employing belt means looses during transmission and maintenance of belt .Also even for limited regenration that is employed there is a loss owing to belt .If it would have been hub mounted motor or rigidly coupled with axle losses would be lesser .If two motors could have been employed knee for each wheel it would have helped immensley in keeping the scooter upright by modulation torque and power on each wheels .In a country like India panels could have been embedded with solar cells to take care of charge itself .Employing such a energy intensive display again points to flashiness .May be eink based display would have helped to conserve energy .A range enough for a weeks riding should have been targeted i.e about 200 to 300kms to make cahrge and forget type . Its a good product but is it a leader in today's tech world .Definitely not .Hope the next iteration is much accomplished .

    • @AtherEnergyElectric
      @AtherEnergyElectric  6 лет назад +1

      Slow down there, buddy! Let's answer your questions one by one.
      1. Disc brakes provide a precise and consistent feedback, not just more stopping power.
      2. Regenerative braking, though present, cannot replace brakes as it works only when the scooter has some momentum, that too only at one wheel.
      3. The toothed carbon belts that we use are far more efficient than the friction based belts used by industrial machinery. Our overall transmission efficiency is much higher than 90%.
      4. Hub-motors in a 12-inch size, simply cannot match the performance that is present in our vehicles, and hence it was a no-brainer. Also, with hub motors, the unsprung mass was much higher, and so was the rolling inertia. Thereby compromising the ride quality severely.
      5. A front motor for two-wheelers is not only risky but also comes with its own set of challenges as the front wheel is mounted on a headstock. The balance of the 450 and 340 is perfect owing to zero lateral off-set and low center of gravity, keeping the scooter upright is not a challenge.
      6. Embedding solar panels might seem like a great idea, but lacks a real use case. The aesthetics of the scooters get severely impacted, the added weight of the panels negate the energy they produce, and they simply increase the cost without adding real functionality. It's always better to install a stationary solar panel at the parking location instead.
      7. Our display uses less than 0.1% if the total power, hence, removing it will not have a considerable impact on the range or performance. Plus, an e-ink display's response time isn't quick enough to use navigation properly.
      8. A range enough for weeks? The scooter can charge at home every night, or even at your office. Putting a week's worth of batteries will increase the cost to 3x and the weight by 2x. Are you even ok with that for your phone? Let alone a scooter?

    • @amitkumarnain
      @amitkumarnain 6 лет назад

      Hi ,
      Appreciate someone is reading .
      1.) In industry with huge loads we have tolerance of as good as 0.05% ( With encoders this can be surpassed) in terms of precision with VFDs in applications like mine hoist , kilns etc .For faster de-accerlation you need to use super capacitor as battery wont use the regeneration fast enough .Disc brakes are an age old way of wasting energy .And even if you cannot implement super capacitor instead of disc brakes what about brake choppers .
      2a.) Regenerative braking works flawlessly even for load in 100s of tons in various industry verticals . The point which does need to be worked on is what capacity i.e how sooner you would like the bike/scooter to stop form peak speed/load . This would entail design of converter / motor . And yes i am am sure companies like NIDEC , ANSALDO , ABB can help you achieve it to precision you want . Regenerative braking even with one wheel is possible definitely .In case you disagree please i would be glad to know why not.
      2b.) Even without momentum braking is possible using converter . It is done in lifts , hoists etc . However yes it will mean energy wastage in a mobile platform . For same electrical actuation may be used to lock rotor/motor driving the wheel rather than wear and tear items like brakes .
      3.) Toothed carbon belt is stll prone to dust , mud i believe and life automatically gets affected by same . Even in industry rigid coupled is inherently more efficient than flexible coupled / Even a 5% gap mean range increases by 5kms and ability to use regeneration to full potential with no fear of slipage or tooth breakage .
      4.) I agree to your point in limited wheel size it is a challenge with hub motors.
      5.) A front motor along with a rear motor will help in situation where scooter / bike slides out as based on lean angles , centre of gravity power modulation can be done automatically . It is not just about keep scooter 90degree to the ground .It is about making the safety envelope bigger . How many scooters falls on wet roads , road which is covered with gravel etc .Even in your current set up i see no mention of ability of vehicle to stay upright in case of wheel loss of traction on front or rear end . This could have been achieved using existing hardware it seems .But then again slight crispness loss of throttle due to belt wil make it a bit of a hit and miss .
      6.) Oh yes i whole hardheartedly agree they might look shabby or i would say heavy enough to restrict design , It is a thought as having this would mean two tier and three tier market opportunities .Atleast an option for rural folks a Ather designed Solar Charging setup .
      7.) I agree with the slow response of eink . I guess .1% is good enough :) . Hope it doesnt idle much in traffic though .What about auto display off .
      8.) For me i really am not into two wheels .However if i do buy two wheels i dont want to be plugging it everyday . How many of Indians have a charging bay at home dedicated to them with most living in apartments etc .Bonus I am sure we all miss Nokia and blackberry which worked for a week .
      So question is not if i am ok but are you able to offer that what phone cant . Today's phone (include mine ) can be charged conveniently with wireless charging and portable battery but scooter cant and being in mobility i see it is of critical importance .
      Also real world scenario Rohini to Gurgaon in Delhi is nearly 100kms ride to and fro .
      A person in sales who would be riding it would need minium 150kms in a city like delhi .
      And with luggage Ather range will go lower.
      With this range real world usage will be limited to those who either ride to nearby markets , or have work in limited geographical boundaries .
      I guess this market is large enough hence this product is designed for approx 100kms under best case .
      All the best to you guys . :)

    • @AtherEnergyElectric
      @AtherEnergyElectric  6 лет назад

      We hear you. :)
      Most analogies that you have given are valid. However, given they work in the industry, (where the weight, maintenance and cost are not as important) doesn't mean the same can be implemented in consumer vehicles directly.
      As for the range, most of our users are going to be urban commuters, and hence the vehicle is designed to meet their requirements. Had we been making a delivery vehicle, the design would've been dramatically different. One size 'doesn't' fit all in this case. :)
      The 450 and the 340 are designed to be intracity vehicles and not inter-city commuters. That said, we have installed AtherGrid across Bengaluru and will continue to do the same in every city we launch in. That should curb any remaining range anxiety a user has. The AtherGrid charges our vehicles at 1km/min. Hence a 30 min charge should allow anyone to extend range by 30 minutes, and that is on top of the existing TrueRange of 75km on a full charge! :)
