#rewire
loving the effects in this video tom, makes it seem more professional production
I've found with the plaster board fixings, drilling a pilot hole stops any of them breaking, and I found I had trouble getting wood screws out. They would constantly bring the whole fixing down with it, so I started to use self tappers and they work a treat
Wow amazing editing and shots at 7:53
I thought same, gives more sugar on video
Could u do a bike vid
marzbar vlogs does same kinda editing
What a great idea, sockets on the ceiling. I must remember that next time I get a rewire.
Seems to be practical if you have a workshop and you're big enough to reach the ceiling.
Those drone shots and editing! Absolutely Brilliant!
Loving this type of video, of multiple days at the same job. I'm also loving the aspect ratio change for the time-lapses and cinematic shots - those drone shots were amazing and the editing of them was great! Keep up the good work!!
Awesome video as usual. I am enjoying watching the progress on this one. Many thanks.
Isn't it beautiful that way more people are watching how the shop is built up compared to the amount of people actually visiting the shop later?
Tracklight story - I once went into a shop where the staff had hung stuff from the track... using paperclips. They'd stuffed maybe a hundred paperclips into the track. Gawd only knows how they managed it without electrocuting themselves or blowing something up. I did explain to them why it wasn't such a good idea, and suggested they turn the power off before removing them - the paperclips were gone the next time I went past.
Just in time for me on the way to work on the train! Cheers have a great day
Get DuppiedRS km.
I'm glad it not just me who gets exited about new products lol..
👍👍
I truly look forward to watching you’re next videos, shame they don’t last for ever, So entertaining. Lovely Cinematic’s
Love the editing work, makes for a more visually pleasing video!
dam i'm addicted to this channel plus i'm learning things too !! Love and respect mate!
Loving the videos lately. Great addition with the drone footage. And some really good editing and music placement. 👌
I know exactly what you mean with regards to fitting something that looks right, rather than is mathematically correct.
I once hung some striped wallpaper which looked distinctly wonky when I used a plumb line yet when I hung it by eye it looked great!
Ditto - I've done this whilst putting in fence posts!
Nice video execution is very nice love the transitions and the day markings feels much better I like it.
Love the drone input
LONDON 😍 Home sweet Home
sick drone footage! more of that plz london looks interesting everything is so close together
Cheers mate! I've got the get the drone repaired it's a bit fucked ATM, but will do more of it soon.
With regards to the Fischer drywall fixings, I pre drill a 3mm hole and then screw them in....saves chewing up the new plaster and plasterboard....keep them videos coming.
Ah right as I’m going to bed. What a nice way to fall asleep. Thanks Tom, cheers
-first year sparky⚡️
Another great video Tom. Loving the drone footage.
Hey Tom, another great video as always. I had that issue with the plasterboard fixings all too often until I swapped to JCP branded ones. The tip is a different design so doesn't snap off ever, I highly recommend them
Those plasterboard fittings,I usually start a hole first so the rip don't break, also you can recheck your alignment that way
Quality videos as always and really helpful to someone like myself getting into the trade!!
I am doing my level 3 course now. And your videos have actually helped me quite abit. You should upload more.
This is getting better, liking new cinematic scenes and drone shots :D
Also fluorescent light do contain mercury so smashing it isn't good idea as well.
REAL on the job channel unlike most of the so called plumbers and sparks channel vlogs. When the bob-a-job plumbers that have there cat or dog in there videos that are 95% of the time useless waste of time channels. I've a lot of time for Tom's channel. Very informative and interesting.
Great work mate
Nice one. A tiny quibble: L on electrics doesn't stand for Live, it stands for Line (as in one line of a TPN supply).
I love those plasterboard screw dealies, and have the same grievances against them. I also have one more complaint but it's because I'm lazy and don't check where studs are all the time before raming one into a stud. once you use one where you shouldn't it makes a giant hole that you now need to fill, let dry before you can use a standard screw, unless you can hide the 12mm hole you just made with the whatever you are mounting. You always make electrical work look so entertaining, I bet Tom... I mean Dave really enjoys working with you. Cheers m8
Tom: just call Tom Tom. We can work it out. If you’re referring to yourself you are going to be using “I”
or just call "Dave" Tom Tom.
Tom Tom and Tom Dave!
nice video, i remember doing track lighting as an apprentice back in 1987/88 and thinking how easy this sparking lark was :) Came down to earth with a thud when they made me make off my first SWA and MICC lol.
If Tom is Dave then surely that would make big Tom Trigger!! :D
Enjoying the videos, i'm looking to get back into sparking after a 26 year hiatus so recently completed the health and safety assessment and your videos (amongst others) are a great way of seeing if much has changed and also reminding myself of good working practices. Your way of working regards tidiness and cleanliness when it comes to fuseboards, customers properties etc strikes a chord with me as i was always accused of being a little OCD lol
Keep them coming and wish you every success, if i ever see the van around town and you see a taxi driver in a vito taxi gurning at you then you know it's just me saying hi ;)
Great vid. Well enjoyed it.
Well done on the editing! Very neisat / mckinnon like.
Perfect answer to the question about suggesting things to customers. If a customer requests something, and I think theres a better way, or material or what ever, ill suggest it to them and tell them why I think that. But if thats the way they want it, and it doesn't violate any codes then fine, your paying for it, have it your way I suppose.
Try a 4mm pilot hole for the plasterboard fixings, neater and less broken fixings.
Plasterboard fixings, always use the metal ones, the plastic ones are useless. I agree with you about the screws provided being a bit gross!
Hi Tom, great video again, always look forward to the next one, i have just been watching the van tour video and am just wondering has your van ever been broken into? mine was broken into a few months ago, but thankfully not all my gear was stolen. what locks do you have on your van and were they professionally fitted. love your channel, keep up the good work.
The person paying is always right ... and when they are wrong, make them pay twice ^^
(Plasterer Painter here ... clients who I have already worked for have understood that simple principle and now listen to me)
Nice drone shots 😎
Wow... The new editing is really nice 😀
Plug in ceiling rose would look good supplying the track light
If you are having trouble with wall mates use your battery drill screw bit to drill a hole perfect size
Great video man,
9:18 You have some really loud flies in your workspace :D
Production quality and content gets better and better Tom. I think every time you call Dave 'Tom' you should have to pay a fine or buy him lunch!! Hahaha. 👍
those are some spicy timelapses
Great vid yet again, but at 11:55 when you said “I aint gonna bust a nut” that made me laugh so hard, never heard that phrase used in that context before😅😂
yo what is this godly editing
use your impact for the plasterboard fixings it will stop the ends snapping :)
The track lighting is great. Used it in my kitchen. Think it's made by robus?
Also, great to hear the you use the visually correct method of installing as sometimes, especially older buildings things aren't straight, walls not level or plumb. Measuring it mathematically it just doesn't look good sometimes.
Another top video again.
never knew the kew stick did that had it a long time must be honest i prefer a proving unit and physical connection test but it does do the job as indication of live
Great channel, keep up the hard work. Could I ask what camera and editing software you use please ?
Great video :)
Watching this in a caffe nero, absolutely pissing myself laughing you keep calling him Tom.
Maybe Dave should change his name to Tom to make things easier lol, makes me laugh every time. Great videos as always :)
Very nice edits!
Hi fella. Love the vids. Quick question when you dropped the light switch height what method do you use to lengthen the feed from its original location or do you run a new cable? Cheers
Do you get double pay for bank holidays or is it standard pay?
Great videos keep it up
Tom... Dave, DAVE, the man is called Dave!
Great video Tom and Tom no sorry Dave lol 😆 Can’t beat a McDonald’s to start your day 👍 More clips on your bike please Tom thanks Stevie 😊
What you do with old lighting like these old flurecent ones? Do you leave them for the owner, sell them or you use them for yourself.
Socket fed by the neighbours? Sign me up! I’ll plug everything into there...
Ur partner seems to have a good outlook on getting through each day
I also work Bank Holidays. I work in a power station.
But always wanted to be a sparky.
Any chance for a review/inside look of a ScrewFix?
Dave daveeeee the mans name is DAVEEEE ARHHHHH HAHAHA.
Those railings on the stairs will have been boarded over for meeting fire safety shiz. I'd assume the opening next to it is going to.have a fire door in?
Tom, you mentioned a while back about using certain screws with red raw plugs to stop the bit of play you get. Can you let me know what screw size your using as I cant seem to find the video where you mention it. I use 8x1” but still find a bit of play in them. Thanks
He'd be referring to #10, or in real money 5mm.
4mm (#8) is fine in decent plugs unless it's crumbly material - try Talon plugs, and make sure you're not using too large a bit (6mm is wrong for normal red plugs, use 5.5mm).
You need to take a look at the Drone code as I think you are breaking it, you have to fly as you have to fly at least 150 metres away from building in built up areas and also much of London is regarded as a high risk area. download the Drone assist app to find out where its safe to fly.
If you have CAA permission (which i have just taken) you can fly below those limits. its basically a 5 day course to the tune of about £2000 which grants you a ''knowledge license''.
To be honest it was an interesting course but quite pricey. the paperwork is pretty long winded too but you learn alot at the same time.
thomas nagy well done I should have known you would have approached it in your usual professional way.
Cantery wire (18:31), - Do you mean Catenary Wire (pronounced Cat-een-a-rie)
Ian Bishop I know it’s hard to hear in the Queens English but that’s what the man said.
Ian Bishop You know what he meant
Peter & Jason - I did understand what he meant. I just had never heard it referred to in that way. I'm interested in how people get to know terms in the trade and sometimes you get told something early on which you adopt as a term only to find later that it was incorrect. Whenever I get these things wrong, there is usually a lot of ribbing from suppliers and other traders. For the record I think Thomas is one of the most well spoken electricians I have ever met and very much respect his knowledge and approach.
What drone do you have? Is it a DJI Phantom?
Another great Video :)
I suppose if a customer wants something that’s against regs you will say why it can’t be done eg a sink being a certain distance away from a socket.
Go smash the tube ,you know you want to, theres only a tiny amount of mercury vapour in there, trendy intermissions and he got a drone now! For his next trick dave will fit a pendant lamp whilst bunny hopping a bmx. . Love that theyve got an accidental next door socket.
The drones out yey!! Btw I too was working on bank holiday Monday:( the perks of being self employed eh! Question Tom, has Dave got his own tools and has he worked in the industry before?
regarding the rack a tiers, make sure screwfix are selling them as a pair, a lot of places sell them as a single item, I know people that have been fought out with it lol
hey thomas, I was just wondering with you do with old / scrap cable, do you save them and take them to the scrapyard for max profit or just throw them in the bin?
Love your channel Thomas, but please take a look at the drone laws :)
Good job on the editing!! You know that just because both of you are named Tom it shouldn't be an issue unless you begin referring to yourself in the third person. I know which Tom you are referring to.
Thomas, what's the meaning of Loop, Feed, Supply and Load?
So many holes in those joists, not your problem, but I wonder if they are still strong enough.
Does "bust a nut" mean something else in England? LOL Because here in America, it DEFINITELY doesnt mean "work hard" haha
fancy, editing and drone have been noted XD
Can you drop link where this track lights from?
Thanks
Also why you just not call other guy Tom and Yourself Thomas and problem sorted :)
Looking a bit tired mate. Another great video. 👍
That track light looks a lot like mine from Ikea, not a joke actually.
Hiya, I would hate to think how many miles of track, up to four cct. I put in in the 80's? Then recesed down lighters took over. Stay safe... Steve...
What tripod are you using for the laser level?
What laser level you using there Tom?
I'm going to start a petition to get Dave a T N fleece and polo. Also some big fucking wasps in that flat. 9.01Regards Joe
There are new plasterboard Fixings from Fischer called Duopower i think they are alot better you should try these
rasa Kurasa In opposite to the universal or special Gipsdübel (I not know the correct english term as german Fischer Dübel user!) this new duopower do not hold enough weight if it not use concrete/cement ceiling! I see them in our local hardware market before some days.
Are filming with a dji? Nice editing 👍
Nice editing 12:22
why it is so different the installation there?, like running cables from fuse box to every single or maybe each two sockets boxes a tri-polar wire!.
Here in argentina, the wiring from fusebox is done for areas, plus one extra wire pair just for air aconditioner, other for electric cooker, but it is just a single line which splits everywhere to feed normal low amp sockets, unless multi-floor house, there will be one dedicated to second floor, other to basement and other for groundfloor, just 3 pair of wires for the whole house plus the cooker, plus the air aconditioner. And the grounding is share for all the house, just a single network.
Maybe as there the houses are done in wood, needs tigher regulations, plus no problem running wires everywhere in dozens, here is 98% brick and cement houses, what it has is a few (1, 2 or 3 output) 1" or 3/4" pipe network to run all the installation.
I think it's about security. Maybe you have to be able to plug in you multiple amps heating device into every socket you can reach for.
Since the postwar period in the mid 20th century it has been common to wire socket circuits in a ring final circuit arrangement, where the AC feed goes from the consumer unit (fuse box) to one socket and on to the next, and the last one is connected back to the consumer unit, in the same circuit breaker. The thinking behind this was that it would use less copper to provide a higher-rated circuit as, for example, electric bar heaters were common in that era, and there was a shortage of copper. Earthing is well controlled on modern installations in the UK, but is almost always a single system. The circuit protective conductor (cpc) in flat "twin & earth" cable (two insulated line conductors for live and neutral and one bare cpc in a flat PVC sheath) provides a path to earth for a short anywhere on the cable. As floors are often made of wood, and floorboards were traditionally fixed to joists with nails, any metallic penetration such as that would create a short to earth. In some modern installations as well as in most of Europe, radial final circuits are used in place of the ring arrangement for household socket outlets, with either a higher-rated cable or lower-rated breaker.
Contrary to what you suggested, most houses in the UK are built of brick, but roofs and floors are primarily wooden constructions, allowing space for thermal insulation, pipework and wiring. Steel and PVC conduit ('pipe') is not uncommon, but is not usually seen in a domestic setting unless there's a specific reason to use it.
7:54 fucking epic editing
Yeah but do they give the correct level of emergency light on the escape route?
is it worth pinning the yellow hanging light wire (basement) so no one hangs themselves on it?
dtec30 don't you think that anyone that wants to hang himself would be unwillingly to unpin it by himself?
I was working on a door with one of our techs this past week and he managed to spill coffee all over his tools and himself. Not a good day!
