Dear Gary I am PhD student from Uzbekistan. Nowadays I am interested in bibliometric analysis and I am writing review papers. Your video is really helpful for me. Thank you sooo much for your useful and excellent information.
Dear Gary For anyone who wants to: -Provide a broad overview of the most productive countries, universities, journals and authors in a particular field of research in recent years. -The most frequently used words in this field of research -The most influential authors and articles in this field -Current trends in terms of publications So my question is this: What type of fields in the list should we choose before launching the search? (All Fields or Topic or Title? ) What choice should be made at this level ? And thank you once again for all you do.
Hi Gary, I hope you're doing well. I'm from Brazil, and I wanted to express my gratitude for the amazing tutorials you share on RUclips. Your explanations are clear and thorough, and having subtitles in your videos is incredibly helpful for me. However, I'm encountering a small issue regarding the "De" and "Da" prefixes while working on bibliometric analysis using the bibliometrix package in R. Despite following various tutorials and trying a few solutions on my own, I haven't been able to successfully remove these prefixes from author names. Do you have any specific guidance or tips on how to address this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you once again for sharing your knowledge and being such a valuable source of learning.
thank you Gary! very useful video, but I encounter a problem. I have merged two databases, web of science and Scopus. But when I import the merged xlsx file into biblioshiny, it cannot not show me intellectual structure and three field plot. And in the main information page, the reference showed 0. I don't know why. and I cannot import the merged file into Vosviewer. Could you please help me? Thank you.
Youll need to import a file from a single database only (e.g. Scopus). The problem is that the databases export different fields. Thus unless you really really really know what you're doing it is extremely difficult to get Bibliometrix to work with data from multiple databases at the same time.
Thank you Gary. In my PhD, I have the problem of having data (bibtext, etc.) from other sources defined in biblioshiny. I could not make the software except my data, spent lots of time for possible conversions, but, nah... still wondering if it is possible to have that data work somehow...
The problem is that the various databases export data in varying BibTeX fields; there is no consistency. You could manually change the fieldnames in your BibTeX fields to be consistent with e.g. Scopus, but this will be very time consuming.
Thanks for your educative video, Gary; unfortunately, after loading my imported Bibtex file and clicking start, it showed an error indicating undefined columns. I am yet to figure out how to fix this.
This typically occurs where the incorrect database is selected when importing into Bibliometrix (e.g. WoS instead of Scopus). If this is not the issue then it may be necessary to export again from the database.
@@GaryEckstein Thanks for your insightful guidance. This is true, I imported the dataset from Science Direct, but I could not find the Science Direct name via Biblimetrix, so I think I selected a different database. I will try it again and give you feedback. Thanks once again
@@GaryEckstein I went back and followed the same process, and this time, I imported the data from Pubmed, and the same error about columns still occurred. This time, I did not interchange the name of the dataset as previously. Could it be my version of R, I am using the latest 4.4.0. Any further guidance will be appreciated. Many thanks
Dear Gary, thank you very much for your instruction. Can I ask if we can combine different sources such as from WoS and SCOPUS for Bibliometrix analysis? Also I would like to manually remove duplicates and screening for eligibility in Endnote before applying Bibliometrix. How can we export Bib file from Endnote to do this?
Unfortunately EndNote, WoS, Scopus etc all use different fields in BibTeX files. As such it is complex to; 1) combine files from multiple databases for import and 2) import a .bib file exported from EndNote. If you view the .bib files exported from WoS and Scopus, for example, you'll notice how fields are used differently ☹️

Hi Gary. Thank you for your clean and clear presentation. However, I cannot search for documents on Web of Science. The document part is greyed. Do you have any idea how I can fix this?
@@GaryEckstein Solved: When exporting metadata from WoS, one has to select the amount of records from X to Y to be exported. The first option, which is 'export all records' means 'export all visible records', which in my case were 50.
Thanks Gary. Likely multiple databases will be used. I saw another video you did showing integration of Endnote and PRISMA. After that last filter, so you're down to your last list of documents you will be reviewing in detail, say 250. Can you run this list to create a bib file from Endnote (to then get all these great graphics from Bibliometrix) ?
That would sure be very handy but unfortunately EndNote exports .bib files in a way that Bibliometrix doesn't understand. You'd need to export from e.g. Scopus
@@GaryEckstein Thank you for this answer, really helpful. But what if, someone has a huge data of research article on ENDNOTE and want to do bibliometrix analysis?
@@GaryEckstein Thanks for the reply. One solution is to edit each (.bib) file in notepad++ and finally compiling as a one (.bib) file. *TIME CONSUMING* :P🥲
Thank you for the fantastic video! It has been incredibly helpful, enabling me to conduct bibliometric analysis with ease on the search results exported from Web of Science and Scopus databases. However, my systematic literature review (SLR) comprises articles from four databases: Web of Science, Scopus, EBSCO, and ScienceDirect. I am wondering how to export bibloshiny supported files from these databases, merge them into a single dataset, and subsequently utilize it in BibloShiny for comprehensive bibliometric analysis. Thank you in advance for your response.

Hi Husam, Scopus and WoS output .bib files with slightly different structures. It thus isn't possible, without considerable rework of the .bib files, to import files from both databases into bibliometrix simultaneously.
