  • WATCH IN HD! Campus tour of University of Southern California (USC), located in Los Angeles, California roughly 2 miles southwest of Downtown Los Angeles in the University Park District. USC is California's old research private university.
I was really impressed with USC's campus. I've always seen pictures of the campus but it was a completely different experience visiting the school especially on Saturday morning college football gameday! The USC community definitely knows how to tailgate. The entire campus was a ginormous party! But overall I thought USC's had a incredibly beautiful campus with nice building architecture and landscaping. Please like and subscribe.

OMG this campus looks stunning on camera, I can imagine how beautiful it is to be there in person. The sad part is, I have the grades to get accepted to USC but my piano playing is not close to the level to get admitted to their program. I worked my butt off to become a great pianist but had very bad musical training. If only I studied with the right piano professor 10 years ago, I would have been admitted 8 years ago, only ifs, I hate the word if.

@@aiemiiyo4244 I can convince them of course if I study with the right piano professor. But I won't apply unless I am really good because I don't plan on taking out student loans. If I get into USC Thornton with a very good audition, I can also get a scholarship. I need to practice like a dog to get there though. I haven't been practicing piano much at all due to COVID sadly and I know that I should. That's because concert spaces have been closed so I lost a lot of motivation to practice since it's almost impossible for anybody to perform in front of people nowadays. I also work a lot, so that's that. Hopefully I'll get back into it at some point.

Before you chose a university, check out a piece titled The Hatchet Man's Playbook. There's a REALLY interesting chapter on the pluses & minuses of attending an elite university - and there are some surprising minuses. For example, while attending an elite university can get you on the short lists of a few top-flight companies, it can also completely eliminate you from consideration from the vast majority of lesser employers whose managers are afraid you will take THEIR jobs if they hire you - an interesting bit of trivia nobody explained to me when I was university shopping. Also, there's a tremendous tendency towards localism in the business community, something else I didn't know. I thought the best candidate naturally got the job. (LOL!) Not a chance. Old-boy/alumni networks rule! For example, at one time, something like 40% of the judges in CA were graduates of USC Law School - not Harvard, not Yale, not Stanford. USC . ( I graduated from Irvine, BTW.) In Texas, the dominant schools are Baylor, A & M, & UT. They basically run the state. So before you choose a university, do your homework & see how strong the alumni associations are! At one time, Irvine's was run by a UCSB graduate, if that tells you anything.

Each year, USC is lowering the acceptance rate for admissions and it’s concerning me because it’s the only school I want to go to for journalism. In 2019 11% of applicants were only accepted. The lowest in USC history. However, a large chunk of the applicants accepted are from CA community colleges which is where I’m going in the meantime for my GE.

Dirty brick floors, crowds, and since you’re in the heart of LA far from the ocean, terrible stale heat and pollution. Not to mention crime basically in all directions out of campus…I can’t imagine why someone would want to go here over somewhere else like UCSB unless it’s solely to be around hot students and party with wealthy kids during their college years. There’s public schools with campuses that look “private” compared to this!
