You are a great teacher! I just got a 4 harness table loom and was looking for instructions on how to set it up & start weaving. I found your videos and watch everyone of them in one night. Thank you for sharing your expertise! I am reviewing each video and taking notes. Can't wait to start the project you assigned! I am also a teacher (H.S. Biology) ...so I can really appreciate what you have done with these lessons.
I can't thank you enough for making your series of videos on everything I ever wanted to know about the floor loom. I inherited a LeClerc Aristat 36" over a year ago and was overwhelmed with learning about it. I was just about to put it up for sale when I discovered your videos. You made everything crystal clear. For the first time I truly understand the entire process and my loom. I wish every teacher could be as easy to follow as you are. Thank you again!
Sandra, What a great compliment these comments are coming from someone in the teaching profession! It makes me feel so great to be able to help someone make sense of the process to the point of actually giving a beginner the confidence to get started! Weaving is not for everyone, but judging by your enthusiasm, I' sure you'll love the challenge it offers. I wish you all of the joy and excitement that comes with completing a hand woven item that I have felt over the years! Thanks again!
@elizziewag I found all the sections very clear unlike any other instruction I've have. I really like the way you go slowly and keep repeating. I'm just getting started and actually cleaned up the loom this morning (Had the previous owner's work on it still!) and am ready to start a warp. I'll be following your directions for the first project.
Just wanted to say these videos are so helpful! I'm picking up my first floor loom soon because it was too good of a price to pass up but all my research has been on rigid heddles so I had no clue what exactly a 4 shaft floor loom would entail. Your videos have been so helpful and answered so many questions that I haven't been able to find answers to. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us newcomers!
Thank you so much for your videos. I just got a second hand 22" Harrisville loom that I am getting into working order and had no idea where to go from there. Your videos are a huge help!
Wow I'm totally thrilled to find your series of instructional videos. I just bought a second hand jack loom just like yours last night and am very keen but with NO know how or experience. I will be following through your course step by step. THANKS VERY VERY MUCH!!!!!
As others have said, thank you so much for your instructional videos. I recently bought a small folding floor loom (Purrington from the 60's) and even though it folds up, the thought of dragging it around to classes was daunting. I am so glad I found you and your excellent, informative videos.
Thanks again for the support and good luck with your new loom. If you are unclear about anything or run into any problems please do not hesitate to let me know. I'll be glad to help. Bye the way - the cameraperson is my 16 year old daughter. I have really be happy with the way she manages to get close up so that all the details can be seen. I will pass on your comment to her. Keep watching - I hope you enjoy the process!
Thank you for producing the videos. I found them to be very helpful. I was given a 36 inch floor loom and wanted to learn how to use it. Your videos have given me a very good start.
I inherited a 4 harness table top loom and had no idea how to set it up, etc. Thank you for your videos. It gives me a better understanding of what I will need to do to start weaving.
Your video was very helpful. I just bought a little Harrisville loom and I am having trouble w/ the pulley system, getting the shafts and the peddles to work right, can you give me any helpful tips to get it working?
@Killer707520 Thanks for the interest. The next video is about how to calculate your project for sett (ends per inch) and yarn quantities, etc. It should be available on my channel by the end of this weekend, so check back soon. After that will be measuring the warp after the calculations are complete. Stay tuned and I hope you are enjoying your new loom so far. What kind did you get? Thank you for watching!
I really appreciate your kind comments and I'm so glad to hear that the videos are helping you. I know once you get comfortable with the basics you'll be hooked! I worried that some sections were a bit confusing - especially the parts about reading a draft. Of course if you have any questions you can certainly ask me and I'll be happy to help. Are you starting your first project with me or just watching for now? Thanks again for the feedback!
Thank you so much for making these informative videos! We just acquired a HD 40" 4 shaft 6 treadle loom over the holidays. My 12 year old daughter and myself searched the internet for help since we are complete beginners and know absolutely nothing about weaving. Your videos are the best on the whole internet!!! We watched you all day on Christmas and followed you step by step. It took us 2 days from start to finish (except the fringe), but we did it!! I have a book, but could not figure it out. You are a great teacher and didn't miss a beat in your instructions. My daughter produced her first scarf and "wowed" the 20 year weaver we purchased the loom from. I think we are hooked! Will you consider another beginner's project with multiple colors and stripes? Or maybe you could suggest where we go from here? Thank you so much! God bless!! -Stephanie & Emma
I really appreciate your lovely compliments and feedback! It's such a great feeling to be able to communicate information about a topic to someone that is helpful. Congratulations on the purchase of your loom. Mine is the same loom except in the 50" wide version. Harrisville is where I learned to weave so I their equipment is very familiar to me. They offer a very good product. Hope you have time once you start weaving to let me know how it's going. Questions are always welcome! Thanks again!
Thanks so much for your question. Did you assemble the loom yourself or did it come already together? My first suggestion would be to make sure that the cords for each harness are laying in the grooves of the pulleys they go with. Sometimes they jump out of those grooves. If you can adjust the height of each harness you might try to do that so that when the warp is on the loom and no treadles are being pressed the warp is relatively straight and the heddles aren't pull it high or pushing it low.
I inherited a LeClerc Nilus four shaft floor loom 36 inches. Last year Inworked with you tube to learn how to weave with a rigid heddle loom 15 inch cricket. Feeling a little more confident I decided recently to dust off this loom and see what I could do. Thankfully my father in law had put many yards of warp on the back beam before he passed away. Thank you for your videos. They are very informative. He also had in his tool a bobbin rack with tension box for warping back to front. Do you know where I could find information on that for future reference? My father in law use to weave many table runners placemats and denim rugs, so I am assuming the bobbin rack worked better for him than the warping mill.
Rebecca - Thank you for your comment I'm glad that the videos are helpful. Actually, because the loom is really a very simple design it hasn't changed much from even the middle ages, which is part of the appeal of weaving I think. The horizontal loom is very much like the floor looms we weave on today except for maybe some minor modern hardware and breaking systems. As long as you can hold a warp under some type of tension, create a shed and beat in the weft that's all you really need! Cheers!
The lamp is an OttLite. They make several different types, including a floor lamp, but I thought this one would make the most sense for me because I can position it however I need to. It's very handy and it's a natural type light that reduces glare and colors are seen more true than other types of lights. Good luck!
Hello! Thank you so much for your amazing videos! I just started my first project on my very first loom and it went so very smoothly! I'm curious to know what kind of lamp you have attached to your loom. I've been searching for recommendations without much luck. Thank you!
@nelly882 Thank you for your lovely comment - it's the very first one I received! I'm so excited that my video actually helped someone! I should have the next installment of eLoomination (how to calculate your weaving project) within a few days. Thanks again for writing!!!
Great! I was taught at Harrisville Designs on their looms, so this should be just like your loom - tie up chains and all! So happy you can move forward now! Thank you so much for your comment!
Hi Courtney, and yes - one warp end through each heddle. If you thread in the sequence on the videos (1,2,3,4 from the front or 4,3,2,1 from the back) and you tie one of your treadles up to shafts 1 and 3 and another treadle up to shafts 2 and 4, you will weave plain weave. Good luck and thank you for watching! -Elizabeth
I assembled it myself. I have it together, but I don't have the harnesses up or the peddles connected, that's the only problem that I am having with the loom.
I guess you didn't buy it directly from Harrisville and that's why you don't have the assembly instructions. I'm sure if you call them: (800) 338-9415 they would send you a set of instructions. I'm afraid that it would be too confusing if I tried to explain in writing how to hook up the harnesses. As far as connecting the treadles to the lams you should have little chains that hook on one end to the treadle and on the other end to the lam. You're almost there - hope they can help you!

I really liked how you explained everything.

Laura Umphrey Thanks Laura - so glad the videos were helpful! Elizabeth
Thank you for the class. Even though I don't work with it, as an English teacher, it has helped me to learn new words.
Anderson Carvalho Anderson - Glad you found the videos informative. Best of luck with your English vocabulary! -Elizabeth

Thanks so much for this video! It was exactly what I need for my textiles test tommorow! :)
Does each warp only go through one heddle? I'm trying to understand how the weave pattern is created. Very helpful and informative video-thanks!

@elizziewag Also thanks to the cameraperson! I am able to see every part clearly-so important for me.
Jesse, I have Harrisville Designs 50" wide, 4 harness jack style floor loom with 6 treadles.
thanks for your all vidio.
