I just did this job on a 2003 escape. It is EXACTLY the way it was described here. Vehicle has 265k on it and it all came apart easily. Getting my booger hooks up in the top of the manifold to get those nuts/studs out was tough. Other than that we did it on my buddies garage floor. I brought my 3/8 and 1/2" hanson socket trays and my ratchets. The torx and inverted torx I brought. He supplied extensions, screwdrivers, and beverages. His tools suck. The alternator was a bugger to get out. We had to "flex" the engine up and yank the darn thing out. What is really in the way is the U-shaped bracket around the CAT. It blocks your access to the top inverted torx, It prevents the PTU from sliding out. The CAT blocks access to the bolts holding the U-shaped bracket. The alternator well it blocks access to the exhaust manifold nuts/studs. I took the lower front cowl off too. Not a bad job at all and it took minimal tools. I used about 20" of extension bar to get the bolt at the back of the alternator. If any of the exhaust bolts decided to give you trouble this job could SUCK.
Great job, TY for the inspiration. I have a 2010 Ford Escape XLT V6 I think it has the same PTU. The seal inside the case between the transmission and the case is leaking to the ground, not in the PTU. PTU & Tranny still good. If I pull the PTU out like you did will I be able to put a new seal on it to stop it from leaking? Again well done, thumbs up new subscriber
Hi there I liked and subscribed also I have Q.s I have an 01 escape and I'm trying to assemble a transmission rod for tranny so I can put motor together and start driving again. Do I need to replace the gaskets or seals on the part where the axles go in on.
I don’t think so unless it has a selector switch which I think they did away with after 2004 and yours obviously is near than that if it has hybrid I do believe you can remove the driveshaft.
I have a question hopefully you can help me. I have an 05 escape that needed an alternator replaced. The shop replace the alternator they did it by removing the axle. My question when we received the car back it had a very bad vibration in the front end took it back to the shop they told me it needed wheel bearings $500. Now they’re telling me it needs a transfer case they want $550 for the part alone. Can you tell me if those parts we’re removed and put back on if they took the axle off to do the alternator? Or when removing the alternator could they have damage that part in anyway. I’m just a single mother trying to get advice because I don’t have thousands of dollars to throw into an 05 car. I was watching your video and I heard you say alternator an axle but I can’t really follow along as I don’t understand carrs. Thank you for any information you can give me to help me understand what happened to my car.
Well I appreciate you clarifying why you were asking. To remove the alternator. They would remove the passenger side axle they would remove it from the wheel bearing and and the transfer case . when they re-installed the axel they would need to torque it down to spec that is possible that they did not do the last step and just tightened up the nut. When they were removing the axle it could’ve lost an excessive amount of transfer case fluid. It’s also possible that they were not aware that you only had to remove two or three nuts to be able to pull the axle out and they separated the shaft. So during the reinstallation process they had already damaged it. Them two things could be the reason that it needs a new transfer case it could also be coincidence but …….. you know I’m really sorry to hear that happened to you sometimes people just don’t know things the way they should. I’ve been guilty of it several times
I have a 2016 escape and there is a bolt missing off the turbo. And the only way to get to it you have to remove the transfer case. I was told it would take about 5 hours to remove and reinstall. Is that about right.
I’m just trying to change the axel seal do I need to take the transfer case off to get the plastic cover off in order to change the seal or am I just crazy
Well for Petes sake You are kind of crazy you did try to bite a guys ear off one time……. I don’t know which seal you’re talking about but when I read your name I had to say that I’m very sorry but I thought it was terribly funny at least I’m laughing. If you’re talking about an axle seal where the axle goes into the transfer case generally not but I’m assuming that’s not what you’re talking about and I’m very sorry to say I am unsure. I wish I had a better answer for you
I need to know 2 things: 1. If muy tranfer case on Ford escape 2005 Will a rebuilt kit fix the problem. 2. Can i change muy 4wd to 2wd on muy Ford escape 2005.
I need to replace the front diff on my 2001 ford escape. But i cant seem to find no info on it. I think all i need to do is replace the ring and pinion but i cant find any info. And i dont wanna pull it till i have what i need to fix it. Please help
Unfortunately I can’t answer that question I replace the whole unit I’m sorry I don’t have access to that kind of information . I can find them everywhere around me for $150
Is a Mercury mariner the same part … so what I mean could a guy go on a 06 Ford Escape take out the transfer case out the Ford and throw it on the Mercury because you don’t same company same car just different name plz let me right away
Noticed the Haynes manual said to replace the driven gear seal, did you guys do that? I'm struggling to source what seal it is exactly. If it's ok to not replace it could you let me know thanks.
Hey Kyle good evening I want to answer your question if you’ve ever looked at A new seal on the inside of yours does it have the little ridges that help lock it to the axle? If the seal looks good I say run what you Brong . You probably got a little bit more than just average common sense so I think you can make a good decision based off of that . And if you’re talking about the output shaft seal you can change that later if it does happen the week by pulling the axle that’s not a big deal I hope that information is helpful good luck have a great day
@@sharpcarco thanks for the reply, I just don't want to have to tear it back down, as you know its a daunting task... If you've had success with not replacing them, that's good news. I appreciate the help.
