The second MiG pilot was already dead the moment he ended up in a 2 on 1 situation, the fact that he attempted to perform such a dangerous maneuver shows the desperation of the pilot to evade the F-15s, and honestly hats off to him for trying, you need some serious balls to be trying air show like maneuvers in combat, cause no flares or jinking would had saved him from that situation. I see a lot of people mocking the pilot, I see a lot of people actually treating the pilot with respect, I can't say anything but how joking around about the enemy like that just shows how much we've dehumanized them, it's just childish.
There was an Egyptian MiG-21 pilot who attempted a Split-S at only 3,000 fight in a desperate bid to evade a pursuing Israeli Mirage III. According to the Israeli pilot, the MiG-21 threw up an enormous plume of sand/dust as it neared the ground and, for a moment, the Israeli lost sight of the aircraft (thinking perhaps it had struck the ground). Amazingly, the MiG emerged from its enormous cloud of sand and, pulling through the maneuver with bare feet (if not mere inches) to spare it rocketed skyward. Unfortunately for the Egyptian MiG, the Israeli had anticipated his position and positioned his own aircraft for a shot as the MiG lost energy near the top of its maneuver. As far as the Split-S maneuver was concerned, perhaps the Egyptian MiG-21 pilot had succeeded where the Iraqi MiG-29 pilot failed. It's not fully apparent that the MiG-29 pilot was trying to pull a Split-S, however, he could have just as easily been suffering threat fixation and been overly focused on what was on his six as opposed to the altitude left under his aircraft.

To be honest, dogfighting has changed so much since the invention of aircraft. In the first war it was about speed and aerobatics, in the second great war it was speed, aerobatics, and firepower. Then jets came along and now its through greatly precise maneuvers and technology that assists the pilot. From training that took only around 3 to 6 months, now to I believe 7 or 8 years.
speed, aerobatics, and turning have always been the basics of dogfighting. dogfighting, or "basic" fighter maneuvers center around getting your nose on the enemy and taking them out. that hasn't changed. now, however, we primarily use missiles instead of guns and the pace is multiplied significantly as well as the ability to perform maneuvers such as going vertical, which simply were not feasible in the era of props. also, training does not take 7 to 8 years. you need to be an officer, which requires going to college for, so 4 years i guess, and then about 18 months of training including ots or ocs, depending on the branch and which can also be replaced with rotc or going to the navy or air force academy, which will be during your 4 years of college. nowhere near 7 to 8 years. i have no clue where you got that from. that's the length of 2 contracts.
@Dr. Irina Luminesk just... no. that's not how it works. just as it was shown in this video, there are ways to get around radar or infrared locks in dogfights. the whole premise of dogfights are that you have to get nose on and a radar or infrared lock. those are impossible in a slower turning aircraft or when the two aircraft are too close to each other. missiles can move in the general direction of the target aircraft's heat source or radar signature, depending on the missile. however, air-to-air missiles travel at speeds about mach 3, so it can only adjust itself onto the target aircraft so much. if the two aircraft are too close to each other, a fired missile will not have time to track onto and follow the enemy aircraft.

It's sad, war should not be an option for a civilized society. We have been conditioned since grade school to accept war as part of being a "free" nation. "War is a Racket". Gen. Smedley Butler General Smedley Butler on Interventionism -- Excerpt from a speech delivered in 1933, by Major General Smedley Butler, USMC. War is just a racket. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the masses. I believe in adequate defense at the coastline and nothing else. If a nation comes over here to fight, then we'll fight. The trouble with America is that when the dollar only earns 6 percent over here, then it gets restless and goes overseas to get 100 percent. Then the flag follows the dollar and the soldiers follow the flag. I wouldn't go to war again as I have done to protect some lousy investment of the bankers. There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket. There isn't a trick in the racketeering bag that the military gang is blind to. It has its "finger men" to point out enemies, its "muscle men" to destroy enemies, its "brain men" to plan war preparations, and a "Big Boss" Super-Nationalistic-Capitalism. It may seem odd for me, a military man to adopt such a comparison. Truthfulness compels me to. I spent thirty- three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country's most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General. And during that period, I spent most of my time being a high class muscle- man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the Bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I suspected I was just part of a racket at the time. Now I am sure of it. Like all the members of the military profession, I never had a thought of my own until I left the service. My mental faculties remained in suspended animation while I obeyed the orders of higher-ups. This is typical with everyone in the military service. I helped make Mexico, especially Tampico, safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefits of Wall Street. The record of racketeering is long. I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912 (where have I heard that name before?). I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. In China I helped to see to it that Standard Oil went its way unmolested. During those years, I had, as the boys in the back room would say, a swell racket. Looking back on it, I feel that I could have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.

Just dont come into the comments section then.
@@critik4l169 don't dehumanize the enemy, it could backstab you in the end.
It's not fully apparent that the MiG-29 pilot was trying to pull a Split-S, however, he could have just as easily been suffering threat fixation and been overly focused on what was on his six as opposed to the altitude left under his aircraft.
f-15s are whack.

5th generation is all technology. F-22 will shot down any aircraft and never be seen.
8 years????
speed, aerobatics, and turning have always been the basics of dogfighting. dogfighting, or "basic" fighter maneuvers center around getting your nose on the enemy and taking them out. that hasn't changed. now, however, we primarily use missiles instead of guns and the pace is multiplied significantly as well as the ability to perform maneuvers such as going vertical, which simply were not feasible in the era of props. also, training does not take 7 to 8 years. you need to be an officer, which requires going to college for, so 4 years i guess, and then about 18 months of training including ots or ocs, depending on the branch and which can also be replaced with rotc or going to the navy or air force academy, which will be during your 4 years of college. nowhere near 7 to 8 years. i have no clue where you got that from. that's the length of 2 contracts.

Just thought that
:v... True.. there is to much heat there
Pretty sure aim 7 is radar guided
Its really sad that they fought even though they knew that they were not going to win. Please respect them because they had the heart to fight and die following orders.
I'm not sure if "this" one, but one of the Iraqi MiG-29 pilots was a career veteran with three kills to his credit from the Iran-Iraq War.

Amazing insight and great footage. I wish you wouldn't change the angles so quickly though. Was very hard to keep tabs on what was going on. It seemed like their were times when the pilot was talking about being in danger when the footage was showing him in a good position to strike the MIG.
Respect to both pilots for defending there own country
@@hlf_coder6272 Crazy how people don't realize there was 2 Gulf wars in Iraq all sparked by Iraq's invasion of Kuwait.
They always remember the 'weapons of mass destruction' justification for the 2nd Gulf War while conveniently forgetting that Sadam was repeatedly breaking the terms of their surrender.
yah um the iraq Person responsible for defending a country that was committing massive genocide on its people. sorry no honor or sympathy there my friend.
@@jonathanmayberrydesigns On the other end, who was the US pilot defending? Was the US under threat of an Iraqi invasion?
@@B_Cleric_Time nope, but in the end, being that 400,000+ iraq citizens were slaughtered by sudam hussein and his government, you could very well say that another 24 million, or whatever their population may be, were right out saved by the americans. Did it do the Americans any good? no, but that only makes what they did even more honorable.

interesting people start to feel sympathy because they know its a highly trained pilot and not some dude on the ground. funny thing is they are all just people victims of their governments who profit from war
the fact that he was thinking whether to run away when outnumbering the Iraqi MIG 2:1 whilst being on boosted US tech - I mean what? those odds were good enough for the Iraqi, maybe he was more convinced of his cause

It's sad, war should not be an option for a civilized society. We have been conditioned since grade school to accept war as part of being a "free" nation.
"War is a Racket". Gen. Smedley Butler
General Smedley Butler on Interventionism
-- Excerpt from a speech delivered in 1933, by Major General Smedley Butler, USMC.

@@tmvo2wotch96 We tried negotiating with Saddam Hussein. Hussein wouldn't budge. Since Iraq is land-locked, Hussein wanted Kuwait's access to the Persian Gulf on top of Kuwait's abundant oil.
