Low quality ones are more or less from the original recording having other instruments on the same track, so they later were digitally isolated, which rarely gives a perfect clean result.
The more I listen to the Reprise Bass isolated, the more I come to love it. Funky in both senses, nasty and groovy. Or as Ween would put it, "that's brown, mang".
Ever play bass in the dark on acid tho?!?It can be quite the experience. One minute you’re stuck can’t flow any good riffs, chopping notes, annoyed and aggravated then you remember you have your little mind expanding friend and an hour after eating your friend you turn from bass tryer , forgive the grammar, into bass player, you really feel the instrument and you’re no longer playing by sight, counting frets in your head. You’re playing by sound and instead of counting you’re feeling each note, there are no longer frets just strings tightly vibrating along the neck. You start creating music you’ve never even heard but it sounds good, the notes are in place it’s like you can’t mess up ,you never have to stop and start over because you hit every time. Truly amazing what beauty can be created with a bass and an expansion pack for your brain just don’t forget to press record 🤣
I have seen a picture of Paul at Abby Road Studios during the Sargent Pepper sessions sitting in a chair with his Rickenbacker 4001 in his lap. There was a foam mute under the strings. I guess that recording the note fundamental got the best result although it sounds awfully dry when isolated.
That seems counter intuitive since Rickenbackers come with mutes built in the bridge can you send me a link to the picture? But it def sounds like he used the mute on the ric tho he denied using it I think
revolver seems to be composed of complex bass lines, this album while still enjoyable is much more simplistic Also the playing in some bits is lot less confident with more mistakes.
I think the bass playing on this album is a large leap from Revolver, he seems more confident and is experimenting with his sound and style. He tends to play similar bass riffs on Revolver while he rarely repeats himself on Sgt. Pepper.
i’d say for their time, he was in his prime y’know, for the 60s they were all such amazing musicians and i still think it applies now. they are a huge part of music history :))
I always felt that other bass players focused more on Macca’s compositional skill vs his facility on the instrument. He was and still is a “great” composer of basslines. At least in my opinion
He was a guitarist forced to play bass, but it was a blessing really because even though he’s not perfect or showy, his basslines were phenomenal and very innovative for the time. I’m also guessing you didn’t see him on stage in ‘76 playing bass and singing lead at the same time? He’s really QUITE good. Although he’ll be the first to admit his lowkey fave instrument to play is the piano, he inspired MANY people to play bass-including Geddy Lee and Sting :)
@@thesilvershining No he was highly derivative in the 60s, copying 50s acts like the rest of his band, and then he should have got a proper job instead of writing a thousand toothpaste commercials.
It's a horrible thudy noise, I'm surprised Martin allowed this. Maybe pepperpot billy wasn't quite the player as Paul. I agree there is no confidence and is mistake laden but mostly it's a terrible sounding recording uck.

Mind blowing once you strip away everything, Paul’s bass is melodic, rhythmically perfect and just pure genius. 🎸

Paul's bass playing has better melodies than 99% of the melody lines in today's music.
It’s true, lol
"With A Little Help..." is just incredible. You can hear that snappy thud of the Ricky with flats on it. Just a perfect part; it made the song.
A really cool, deeply Fuzzy-Wuzzy and bassy experience.
Man I love bass guitar
His bass lines are songs in themselves 💥

I consider this the greatest album for bass ever. Right up there with Moving Pictures, Quadrophonia, and many others!
Led Zeppelin II is right up there too
And What's going on
100% in agreement!
I think I like It’s getting better the best, genius, just perfect!

Beautiful so original and crazy good Paul
this is all I really need in life
Wow Lovely Rita amazing also!
. I was just "Rickrolled." But that's okay.
You were Rickenbackered
Wait! Mr. kite is amazing too! Genius also
McCartney's bass playing is so simple on so many songs. Just speed it up and it sounds exactly like a Ramones song.

Awesome

Sounds awful because you have to cut a lot of high frequencies in order to isolate the bass like that.
That seems counter intuitive since Rickenbackers come with mutes built in the bridge can you send me a link to the picture? But it def sounds like he used the mute on the ric tho he denied using it I think
Lucy in the sky somewhat resembles parts of Dazed and confused
Good morning might be the best!
I believe Fixing A Hole is the only song where McCartney didn't play bass, Lennon did instead (hence the different tone).
Nope, that's McCartney on bass.
It's super isolated so it must be an overdub which means it would be Paul.
@@cl9826Yep Paul overdubbed a lot of the bass on this album, usually when there's a song with piano on it

Hmm it’s funny cause I think exactly the opposite of this. What revolver bassline is more complex? And your bird can sing?
