I am pretty sure that the bass is a Rickenbacker but is this era it is hard to tell because Paul was not always on bass and they were using Fender Basses at times on the White album and afterwards.
I was surprised the bass & drums alone have a dark & dreary vibe. Magical Mystery Tour was a big flop & now I can understand why. Beatles lost their soul - the real Paul. gone.
Its their best lp... and i hear happy . I hear tripped. Not too dreary imo..a cpl tracks maybe . Bluejay way etc. That song didnt need happy lol.. I feel they're pretty dialed in at this point in their careers.
