At every funeral if i have kept my tears inside througout the sermon , when this piece is played i cannot stop the tears 😢 ..... Lost my grandma today and it hurts having to bury her next week
I have heard this played many times before, in both organ and orchestral versions. This is the first time that I have heard the full power of the organ unleashed. Magnificent work.
Its traditional in South Africa to play as the coffin is being carried out of the church It was played at both my mom and das funeral and tonight I am very emotional as I have to put my little pooch down tomorrow so many emotions but the music is bringing me comfort - crying my heart out
This is perfect in many ways! The timing, the crescendo from beginning to end. Played with an understanding of the music, not just reading it off the page like many do!!! A great organist! May he continue to play wonderful music in his heavenly home!
Beautiful, Rob. So sorry to read of the passing of your fine Organist. I first heard the Dead March many years ago and it found it deeply moving. If remember correctly, I last heard it at my cousin Sandy's Funeral Service in Mortlach Parish Church, Dufftown, in 1994. Memories come flooding back, Rob. When I came home to Aberdeen, my faithful black cat, Bramble, was in the hall to welcome me. Loved her too, Rob. We had her until she was 16. God bless. Charlie.
Very Very well played, a beautiful piece of music. 5 stars. would give more if I could. Great use and control of the full power of the Organ. Thank you Rob for Filming!
Gethin was my Music Teacher in Ysgol Dwyieithog Y Strade back in the 70's. A true, over of music. He used to play The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba (Handel) before Assembly in the morning. I hadn't heard he had passed away but I suppose living the other side of the world has its downfalls. Gorffwysa'n dawel Geth xxxx
Thanks - this is going back a far bit now, the organist in this video passed away a few years ago. I have another channel for the Swansea Organ Association check that out on RUclips!
Thanks for that Rob, a new piece to me, I'm obviously a pleb, this is now in my favourites , just love it, the loss of this organist is obviously a great one. Do you fancy trying it at Oystermouth, go on surprise yourself, and us! :))
Sad to hear about the organist; I hope this was played at his funeral. It is fairly commonly played at funerals in South Africa - as the body is carried from the church, with the congregation standing still (a last sign of respect for the person who passed.)
Adnil Titus I thonk thats when it really hits u that tgis is the final good bye it was played at both my parents funeral and as big rugby build block i am i cried uncontrollably realising this was the final good bye. but what an awesome hymn
Rob, great performance and use of stops including the bourdon, vox Celeste and reed stops. Wanted to ask you, did the Bible greatly influence Handel when composing his stuff?

A most beautiful and resounding version of Handel's somber funeral march from Saul. I enjoyed it very much.
Unusually beautiful!

This piece, The Dead March from Handel's Saul, was played at the funeral of Britian's Admiral Lord Nelson, January, 1806. So beautiful and stirring.

Also to the funeral of Sir Winston Chuchhill in 1965.
