Also not a good idea to go into battle with batteries that have half their shelf life remaining.
Remember the old days of clunky cell phones. You charge them for hours, and it goes flat after two calls.
There will be a lot of redundant batteries, and the huge spin off in mineral mining to disposal of used batteries.
We are just replacing one kind of problem with different problem.

the military was looking at the possibility of electric tanks with rubber treads during the time between the two Bushes being president- in an effort to be quieter in the deserts and in cities especially at night. At the time, range considerations and weight problems from the Lead batteries stopped it. But I am not surprised to hear that it is still being looked at, but would expect it to be set up in a hybrid setup, what with the weight savings of newer Lithium technology.
I personally can still not see our military using it in Combat but I know that special forces and the Airborne divisions have a lightweight, rubber tracked fast attack tank on their wish list from Santa for certain situations they deal with, but not for full military use.
Solid state batteries (that perpetually are 5 years away, unfortunately) could be the solution, compact and long lasting.

There are legitimate tactical and logistical advantages to having electric/hybrid engines in military tanks, primarily better fuel efficiency and low heat signature. The army has been experimenting with this technology since ww2. However, it is more likely that future main battle tanks will have hybrid gas electric engines if anything, like the new Abrams X tank. Unmanned ground vehicles are better candidates for electric engines as they are generally lighter and cheaper.

Actually I could see a fully electric military vehicle being a asset even with all the shortcoming of current batteries range and charging time, maybe not used in a 60 ton tank, but a light, heavily armed recon tracked vehicle even if it had limited range, it could be used for special missions or scouting because it would be much quieter than gas or diesel powered ones and escape the enemies notice creeping up into a town or ambush position, The 60 ton tank would have to be some type of hybrid much like Submarines used to be before Nuclear power they had a battery bank that was used while operating under water, then used the diesel engine to recharge the battery bank while operating on the surface to recharge the batteries, a Tank could have the same setup , a gas power engine to recharge the batteries and battery power
this would extend the tanks operational range before needing refueling by a lot , and having a whisper mode using only battery power in certain situations might be a great tactical advantage to hide from the enemies notice, even if the tank could only operate for 30 minutes on battery power
any currently shortcomings will quickly be addressed as tech moves forward

He is very ignorant, Electric motors are light years away from internal combustion engines. They have more torque, they are faster, more efficient in energy conversion and they weigh less... Being able to manufacture more lethal, lighter tanks that are suitable for all types of terrain without sinking.
Autonomy is not a problem, it is superior to an Otto cycle engine.
They use an Atkinson Diesel Engine to charge the lithium phosphate batteries that are then used by the electric drive.
By the way, another advantage that adds more lethality is that since they are electric, they are stealthy, and do not leave a thermal footprint. They are totally cold and invisible to enemy missiles that follow the heat gradient.
