  • Gaahleri X Studio G’s Swallowtail Airbrush unboxing and review
    Gaahleri X Studio G sent me their new Swallowtail Airbrush to try out and see what I think. Well, I have to say that this is a grand slam home run of an airbrush. It has a redesigned trigger that fits my hand very comfortably. The jet cover and needle protector are both larger, making it easier to take off and put back on. The back needle cover is also redesigned. It’s slimmer and open to reduce weight. Lastly the hand grip is redone giving more room for my large fingers to fit comfortably on the grip. It comes with two cups and three needle sizes. A .28mm, a .5mm, and a huge .7mm. I took it to the spray booth and fell in love. Check out the video to see how nice this sprays.

    Yesterday I search for reviews on Harbor Freight's/Central Pneumatic airbrush combo. I found Barbatos Rex and my teenage love for model cars was re-ignited. Today I found your channel and you both have a new subscriber.
    The reason for searching airbrush reviews is for airbrushing leather dye. It saves so much more dye over dip or sponge dyeing and it is much smoother when done right. Also the dye colors can be layered for different shades and faded/feathered in/out to another color. Well the Harbor Freight combo kit is off the table. LOL. My first airbrush and compressor will be the Swallowtail and the amazon timbertech 3L tank compressor. If I am gona start I am not going to get "crappy" stuff. 🤷‍♂️
    Well, sorry this blab is sooo looong, but Thank You for sharing your hobby. I look forward to watching all of your vids. 👍👍😁😁😁

    The only issue I have, and it's not with the Airbrush itself, is that they did this airbrush in collaboration with Barbatos Rex and THEN turned around and used the same version and called it the Studio G. They're the same airbrush.

    Good video Mark. Nice to see how you are basically teaching others how "practice" is what gives you better results, not just the airbrush. From my experience everyone needs to find the airbrush that is the best "fit" for them. I own 8 and even with the same paint I can get good or lesser results depending on the atomization and needles. These Gaahleri airbrushes are prefect for the model builder.

    • @grandpamarkshobbies
      @grandpamarkshobbies  9 месяцев назад +1

      I try and promote practicing to improve. I use them a lot, and I still grab cardboard every now and then just to keep in practice doing tight lines and things like that. When you find an airbrush like these you tend to grab for them all the time. They spray so smoothly it's not even funny. I have an airbrush shelf with everything from Harbor Freight to Bosh, and I've been grabbing the Gaahleri every time now. Not only do they spray smooth as glass, but they clean up so darn easy.
      Have a great day, and thanks for following along.

    WOW Mark!!! Looks like an awesome brush. Thanks for showing it off. A 7 ! Need to be sprayin' something real big I'm thinking or some heavy primer.. 5 is the biggest I"ve used. Glad I didn't buy the 68 yet. Now I'm glad this new one came out. Got to get me one of these. Love the colors too. So many nice things about it. Thanks again Mark. Great video too by the way.
    Oh hey - They sent you a compressor too I see. How about showing that off? They are being good to you man. Have you mentioned that yet? If you did my brain isn't remembering it. Happy they see your talents in demos.

      It sure is a nice brush. I was messing around with it and the .7mm tip today. I think that will be my body needle for now on. It sprays so evenly that I think it will smooth out my tendency to fight the zebra stripes. LOL The black chrome and red do look great don't they.
      Gaahleri has been VERY good to me. I will be honest with you, if I didn't like the product I wouldn't sing the praises, but these airbrushes are so sweet, and the people I've delt with are awesome. It's so nice to see a company that truly cares about the customer and making sure they get quality products.

      @@grandpamarkshobbies God d---!!! I did it again! Whipped it all out again. It was a long one too. Shit!
      Well I'll never go back to a normal brush again - I don't think. The trigger brush it the best for me Mark. It sure is an eye catching brush. Your makin me want one even more now. I hope you get a better piece of the action! LOL
      Hey anyway - I was checkin out these new "normal" brushes that you can twist around to use a bottom suction, side suction and then a gravity feed. Now if they could make that happen with their pistol grip, I think they could corner the market with options like that. Mention it to your "people" at Gaahleri. LOL again. I kind of hate the way they spell gallery. Hard for my brain to remember it. LOL
      Well I think I got it all down. Better quit while I'm ahead here. LOL

    • @grandpamarkshobbies
      @grandpamarkshobbies  9 месяцев назад +1

      LOL. I do that all the time. It seems that now that I have the pistol grip airbrushes I'm grabbing the other ones less and less. Don't get me wrong, they work great on small stuff, and I can cut a tight line with them, but for car bodies I'm going to grab the pistol grip with the biggest needle I can get. This new Gaahleri is leaps and bounds better than the older model. Well worth the cost. It sprays about the same, but is so darn easy to clean, and it just feels good in the hand. I will bring up the swivel for the pistol grip to them. Thanks for following along.

    I have a 68 and really like a lot of things about it, but have a heck of a time with tip dry when using Mission Models and AK Gen3 paints. Do not have any tip dry issue with my other airbrushes. Nothing i try helps. Very frustrating. Great review, nice job, thanks.

    • @grandpamarkshobbies
      @grandpamarkshobbies  8 месяцев назад

      I had that problem with one of my other airbrushes using MM. I got some retarder and it worked great. Now I use Tamiya's paints with retarder and they also flow great. I've never used Mission Models or AK, so I'm not sure, but it's worth a try to see if they have a retarder. The new jet's atomize the paints so much more than anything I've ever used that it may be that that is causing your paint to dry on the tip like that.

    Hi Mark, not sure if you’re aware of the unique design of the Tamiya paint jars. When it comes to thinning Tamiya acrylic paints, their jars have this indentation and the reason for this is that it creates an illusion. If you look inside the jar this gives an imaginary line and all you have to do is pour the thinner to that line and you’ll have the perfect paint to thinner ratio.

    • @grandpamarkshobbies
      @grandpamarkshobbies  9 месяцев назад

      Thank you. I did know that, but I use the same paint that I spray with to brush paint, and it get's too thin for that. I will let everyone know that when I do my next video.

    Have you tested the resistance of the handle to lacquer thinner? My experience with the StudioG Swallowtail is lacquer thinner attacks the polymer handle, making it soft and sticky, Just curious if my experience is unique. I contacted Gaahleri and their response was "thanks for letting us know, we'll take it under advisement."
