    The “Little Women” aesthetic would be Civil War poverty where Meg and Jo hid their spoiled gloves and shared a single pair. That’s a far cry from Romance Core. More literature, less Hallmark. 😂

    • @kristinapreedy7069
      @kristinapreedy7069 8 месяцев назад +6

      Totally agree (as Little Women is one of my all-time favorite books) but I think what Christina is going for here is just the idea (definitely in the book) where you pay attention to your space and do whatever is within your means to make it beautiful and cheerful (which often meant fresh flowers from the garden). 😊 It’s not my personal aesthetic for my home (I lean more towards mid-century modern and/or Craftsman/Arts and Crafts) but do like to look at it. 😊

    I love both the Grandpa Chic and Romance Core trends. I enjoy picking aspects of new trends and incorporating them into the decor of our home. I will be looking at ways to use warm, rich colours, wall paper, and floral fabrics in my decor this year. Fun, informative video!

    It's really sad that people showing trends or giving free advice have to give disclaimers telling people to do what they want and love because a few bitter, hormonal sadsacks get on the here and say Don't tell me what to do! I can make my own decisions mom! You know those people have mommy issues. Love the video :)

    Hmm. I haven't bought paint in a year or so, and yes, prices were climbing... but I highly doubt they've gone quite that high here in west-central WI, or at least, that the paints where I shop have. So, NOT saying this to argue or nit-pick, just so others who haven't ever bought pain or haven't in 30 years, don't give up before checking their local home improvement stores ! I once bought a higher-end, paint-store brand from their storefront, partly for the amazing service I'd been hearing about ( as a company and as vrs. big box store, the type of help you can get... not that particular store in my town), and I later felt foolish and regretted it. I mean, unless the worker at Menards wouldn't have been able to do that grey in an 80 % saturation (or whatever the term is), as that part DID work out superbly. Anyway, I'd previously - in former home- gotten/used Pittsburgh paints paint&primer in one, and it was every bit as wonderful to use and covered up a daker, (sponge-painted in 3 colors) living room with only 2 coats. Looked wonderful, got a lot of compliments, loved the "feel" of the paint as I used it, too. Now, they are a little more expensive than Dutch boy, which that same store also carries, and I have used that too and I guess I'd say I noticed I liked the P.P. more, but didn't DIS-like the D.B. . With one exception. Using D.B.'s cabinet paint. Oh, my, goodness ! Awful, awful experience trying to paint our bathroom cabinets. Finally, for some reason ( think my husband knew something, suggested it) went to a local, small towm store specializing in home remodeling type things and tried their brand of paint for that. Much, much better ! But just regular interior paint, whether semi gloss or satin, for walls, I'd had no issue and also loved their "porch and floor" paint for our basement stairs. Great stuff, as of 10 yrs ago. So, my point is that unless doing a trickier paint like for bathroom cabinets/enamels ( thick and tacky and can't work it long, may have to add water to use it at all, but be careful), most cheaper brands of paints are probably good. You can ask for samples. Nowadays many will only sell you a quart for a sample, so ask what their sample size and price is, 1st ! Also find out if they (or you local habitat for humanity re-store) has a "returned paint" shelf. Always full cans, that I know of. Check Craigslist or FB MP too, for ( not necessarily full) cans and paills !

    After everyone's spent the last 15 or so years painting their kitchen cabinets, now the wood look is back. Fooled you!
    Those busy wallpapers give me anxiety! Wall clutter. I detested them in the 60s/70s, and these are awful, too. They give me a headache.
    I like some of the grandpa chic and natural looks. Calm, comfortable, relaxing, uncluttered.

    Grandpa chic is marginally better than the Grandma chic, it is terrible.
    Wallpaper is a quick way to do something that will quickly become dated, just like the farmhouse trend.
    Marble and natural materials are forever beautiful.
    Romance core is for single women only, no man would appreciate living in that.

    Great summary, I love darker moodier colours, unfortunately as renters we are restricted as to what colours or wall treatments we can apply. So probably I am a mix of grandpa chic, nature inspired (loooove greens, darker wood tones and plants) and old world european styles. How would you translate this for renters?😊

      I'd use the trending colours in textiles, or try some peel and stick products (always testing them on the surface first)!

    • @ajb.822
      @ajb.822 8 месяцев назад

      Ditto on what they said ( and I'm betting that's a typo and it should read "peel and stick wallpaper", just in case anyone doesn't know about that option nowadays). Another idea is wall hanging of textiles with limited hooks - those sticky hook things, the stronger ones, aren't free ! - or holes in the wall, by hanging a wooden dowel ( or any lightweight, sturdy material ) from one hook, by rope looping over, attached to each end of the dowel. Possibly by drilling a hole through, in each end ( near the end, not too close, so end doesn't split) of the dowel so it's very secure. Anyway, by sewing loops onto, or otherwise securing a large piece of fabric to the dowel, you can cover one wall pretty easily and possibly a lot less costly than peel and stick wallpaper ( the one I fell in love with would of added up to too much, for me :( ). You can use anything - look in the linens section of goodwill - or stamp, paint or etc. on a canvass painter's tarp ( ask for floor protection for painting at local home improvement stores, it's there somewhere).

    Love Jane Austen, and I even bought my oldest grown daughter a book filled with all Austen's stories that I found at Costco. Authentic historical period pieces like Austen's stories are my favorite. Like movies made of her stories with Emma Thompson and Keira Knightley. I don't like it when classics are rewritten to fit today's narratives, and go against the truth of the time period that the story was written in. I saw an ad for some ridiculous "Woke" show from England, supposedly based on Jane Austen's work, yet not at all based in reality. Or facts. I won't be watching it. Just like I refuse to watch Bridgerton. I prefer more than just accuracy in period costumes. That's all that seems to matter these days. That the clothing of the time period is exactly right. But not about the people wearing them in that time period, in that country the story is about. European history is being rewritten.
