Love how you present things to us, Jennifer. I have to say, though, that I just updated my home from darker to lighter and I won't be going back to dark anytime soon! I think most everything you showed us is beautiful, but when you live in the midwest and endure long, dark winters, all that darkness would just compound the already depressing feel of winter for me.

I love the 2024 trends! Gray was just that…Gray! I love color! Do you remember Sherwin Williams had a paint 25 years or so ago, suede ( I think)? It was a technique you cross hatched with a brush that gave a muddling effect. I guess lime washing is similar? There was rich brows, sagey greens, crimson reds! Loved it! When I was young and broke in my first home, I would buy cheap white paint from big lots and 59 cent acrylic paint from Walmart to mix my own colors! I saved and got a 5 gal bucket of sheet rock mud and by hand plastered the bathroom walls! Hand painted bows that drooped from sconces! Not sure about the ruffles/scallops but love the lamp shade in print. Got my thinking wheels turning. Thanks for the informative content.

Happy new year everyone! My trends are simple, intentional, cohesive, decluttered and personality. I’d love to re-tile my wet areas but will have to paint them to refresh them now. I’d love a dark room but am needing a light and airy feel so I’m just adding black/dark accents to rooms. I’ve bleached my buffet in the lounge to add warmth and more character and painted old pine furniture black and added modern handles. A coat of white paint for the walls and replacing the old roller blinds for curtains at ceiling height on black rods has been life changing and added a foot of height to each room.

IMO. Chevron pattern is a very timeless pattern that’s been around for a very long time especially in Europe where it’s done well. It may not be for everyone that’s fair and it was probably over used in recent times but it’s timeless and classic nonetheless.

I don't like dark rooms. I do like the texture tile back splash and hope to have some installed in my kitchen. I am not the DIYer I used to be. However, I am a fan of the lightest hint of blue and yellow ( Garden Rose White) is my favorite. Natural textured seated kitchen chairs and breakfast bar stools and chairs. Warm wood furniture and mixing old and new styles together. And a few painted pieces like night stands.

I’m so confused. Looking to move into a new build inventory small home. Kitchen cabinets are all Gray or White Shaker style. I keep hearing white kitchens are out, but I’m afraid the Gray will be out within the next 3-5 years. I feel like white will have more classic longevity. Or am I wrong. I cannot afford to change any time soon. Help!

Thank-you for the video. (I have to say I miss your DIY videos.) I love color. I just do not like painting out the trim to match wall color. I will never paint my stained woodwork. I tend to use lots of color in medium hues. The scallops remind me of the 40's and 50's kitchens. They were charming. But, I don't like the scallops on furniture and upholstery pieces. The ruffled lampshades would be sweet in a little girl's nursery/bedroom. I do like the pleated fabric shades.

I like the lighter trim work added to the walls and the kitchen design is beautiful but the pattern lampshades and dark colors just scream early 1990s to me. I tried doing some richer colors back then and found them depressing despite loving the colors. I would gravitate to my lighter and brighter rooms. I'm sticking with clean and bright yet warm and welcoming.

Scalloped anything looks cheap..before you say it's in. It will be out. The Murrell walls take the place of artwork & wallpaper .. this will be exceptional. It also can be fabulous window framed with hinges and the works. possible three Murrells placed carefully in the window boxes to look like water with sailboats, and docks in one or two.

Scalloped edges on furniture outside of a child's room is a no for me. I like it on bedding. I like adding a bit of moody but those walls are waaay too dark. I have tan walls and never went gray or white although I like the white wall trend. I have deep burgundy/rust velvet chairs, chocolate browns, and deep emerald greens in my furniture and curtains but those rooms were depressing. I love the beaded board, mouldings, chair rail. That was all popular when we built our first home. Our first home was filled with wallpaper too. Although i love the look, it was awful to put up and take down. I think I'll sit that one out. No to checker board. I have a large stove area with brick surround. Its the focal point of my kitchen and i love it. Im glad to see some color make a come back especially jewel tones.

I laughed when you were going through the trends. I really never paid attention to them. I just did what I liked. I have never been a fan of black and white. 15 years ago I did an accent wall with exterior T-1 11 outdoor siding and painted it olive green. I textured all my walls and painted them shades of beiges. I could go on but as you can see it took the rest of the world 15 years to catch up with what I knew would be popular at some point in time. Hahaha. Happy decorating everyone!

Tile on the ceiling of a shower gives me the creeps. Totally nasty 🤢 I see expensive trends and ones that are going to be too trendy…and wallpaper on the ceiling? - one I’ve seen lately- ridiculous. I will never use any patterns in permanent design because right around the corner are the new trends. Always use the trends as an easily removable accent, like wallpaper in the back of a bookshelf or on a panel. Be practical. Painting trim is a daunting process unless you want to pay a fortune to a painter. I couldn’t imagine painting all the trim dark THEN having to paint it white again! I love seeing them in someone else’s home but I’m getting to the point where I’m over it.
