Totally spot on. You'd almost expect her to Ninahagenize (?) it, but it's a very good, very Brechtian performance of the song. Lotte and Kurt would be proud.

"Alabama Song" was originally published in Bertolt Brecht's Hauspostille (1927). It was set to music by Kurt Weill for the 1927"Singspiel" Mahagonny and used again in Weill's and Brecht's 1930 opera "Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny".

    She's Nina Hagen.
She sings with emotion. She tells you the story while singing.
It's not BAD. maybe bit unusual for some people.

Berthold Brecht know for sure what he was doing:-) So does David Bowie and now (to my surprice) Nina Hagen. But why shouldn't she, classical trained as she is. This piece is just so lovely!

This is the closest to the original intent of the song since Lotte Lenya. Even better than Lenya. Hagen was born to sing Weill.

@jejune14 we must also thanks to the great german anti-establishment songwriter-singer Wolf Biermann..!!!

Here's a little tidbit about Woilf Biermann that people may not know, on finishing school at the age of 17, Biermann decided to emigrate from West Germany to East Germany where he believed he could live out his Communist ideals. Although a committed communist, Biermann's nonconformist views soon alarmed the East German establishment. (A bit of trivia)
