Totally spot on. You'd almost expect her to Ninahagenize (?) it, but it's a very good, very Brechtian performance of the song. Lotte and Kurt would be proud.
"Alabama Song" was originally published in Bertolt Brecht's Hauspostille (1927). It was set to music by Kurt Weill for the 1927"Singspiel" Mahagonny and used again in Weill's and Brecht's 1930 opera "Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny".
lol, This is not Tokyo, I guess this is The International Exposition, Tsukuba, Japan, 20th Aug 1985! "German Classical Rock Night" ahaha.. Just wanted to see audience's reaction!
Berthold Brecht know for sure what he was doing:-) So does David Bowie and now (to my surprice) Nina Hagen. But why shouldn't she, classical trained as she is. This piece is just so lovely!
Omg... SO true I find it intriguing/scary.... ? How did it happen ? Narcissism Culture.... Navel Gazing and not looking at anything outself of self ? It creeps me the fuck out
Well, show me the way To the next whiskey bar Oh, don't ask why Oh, don't ask why Show me the way To the next whiskey bar Oh, don't ask why Oh, don't ask why For if we don't find The next whiskey bar I tell you we must die I tell you we must die I tell you, I tell you I tell you we must die
Here's a little tidbit about Woilf Biermann that people may not know, on finishing school at the age of 17, Biermann decided to emigrate from West Germany to East Germany where he believed he could live out his Communist ideals. Although a committed communist, Biermann's nonconformist views soon alarmed the East German establishment. (A bit of trivia)

Fantastic! I never thought that I'd hear her do this song. I know she's a big fan of Jim Morrison. Please tell me that you have the entire show!

When I saw this, powded under dextrometorfan, I just watched my life, i dont know why ( I born at 80's)
This is the closest to the original intent of the song since Lotte Lenya. Even better than Lenya. Hagen was born to sing Weill.
