Automatic weapons are banned already. You have to get a special license to get one. And it is extremely hard to get it
A special license is not required. You can buy one manufactured before 86 and pay a $200 tax. The market prices are prohibitively expensive for most due to the forced scarcity though.
That being said, the ban is unconstitutional anyway and the ATF should be abolished.
Heck if you file the right paperwork, can afford it, & pass the background check you could own a tank.
Technically it's not banned if it's before 1986, it's just taxed and is very very hard to get one without selling your house. Anything after 86 though does require more things for sure.

To add to the Ar-15 gun conversation, are illegal firearm possessors going to switch to lower capacity guns, I would bet that a lot of people who have illegal guns have automatic guns also. Taking our guns away when we followed all the rules/background checks will create chaos

To answer one of her questions with facts. The AR-15 was involved in the Vietnam war.
AR15 designed as a main infantry weapon for the US army during the Vietnam war, was tested in the field with soldiers confirming it was a better rifle than the existing M14
Was supported (General William G Wyman commander of US continental Army Command 1958)to be introduced to the army widespread although veto'd by General Maxwell Taylor (Army Chief of Staff 1959)
General Curtis LeMay (Chief of Staff of the US Air Force 1961) requested 80,000 AR15's, again veto's by General Maxwell Taylor (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs) advising JFK, should not have different calibres in the military system.
1961 William Godel (Advanced Research Projects Agency) sent 10 AR15's to Vietnam, received glowing reception.
1962 1000 further AR15's sent to Vietnam used by US Army Special Forces, impressed by the rifle pushed for it's adoption.
US Secretary of Defence Robert McNamara ordered Secretary of the Army Cyrus Vance to have M14, AR15 and AK47 each tested.

I will say I did use to enjoy watching the channel, however with the clear move towards a conservative or republican political viewpoint, I do find these videos a lot less enjoyable. Have you considered potentially covering videos of the Liberal viewpoint being in the right as you do in these videos still say that you are looking at all viewpoints and still learning on the topic. Perhaps a more balanced overview of politics would be better.
There are other countries that have no firearms, and also a socialist form of government, and also believe in your way of thinking. Don’t you think you would be better off in one of those countries?

I'm happily not in the US, I'm Scottish and quite happy that we don't even need to have this kind of discussion around anyone in the country being able to own or use an army class weapon

By specifying semi-automatic, following your method of extrapolating intent, are you suggesting that she should only be able to carry a manual-action firearm to protect herself?
That being said: Why not? If the issue is irresponsible actions leading to fatalities, she correctly points out cars are used much less responsibly with no real pushback. You'll also find most pro-gun people do in fact advocate for you to be trained with whatever firearm you have, up to and including safety and safe storage.
One of the many problems with the idea that weapons like the AR-15 should be banned or restricted, is how incredibly arbitrary such a restriction would be. At the core of such restrictions is generally not an actual. logical, principled argument that is applied at a broader context, but merely justifications that all translate to "I don't like it."
And I'm sorry, but that's not a valid reason to curtail peoples constitutional rights in your country.
