Mr. Temperton should have a Star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
Rod Temperton's passing is humanity's loss. There is no one else on the planet who can write songs like this!!
Nobody!
Smokey Robinson was a good one too
@@conradford7493 Smokey robinsons
Leon Sylvers, Nile Rogers, Brian Wilson, and Rod are all in a class by themselves.
Yo,Rod was ridiculously gifted by God.
This version sounds fuller to me.a much more live sound. The music is so funky. It's unbelievable.
MJ himself insisted this version be released, Rod Wanted it too, but Quincy said “Too Overpolished. I’m gonna edit this shit”.
Temperton....is a genius
Temperton made some of the best smashes... Rock With You, Off The Wall, Thriller... the list just goes on
Quincy Jones And Maestro Temperton, the perfect combination of contemporary music.
This Version is better than the version on the album. It sounds vocally rawer
So much !
Rod was a master songwriter that wrote song only some best song writers can only dream about writing. I love his vocal harmonies and grooving. Having a vocalist like Michael Jackson singing your tune must of been great. Quincy asked Rod to write "some" songs for Michael Jackson. Then when he finished them, he presented them to Micheal and he asked Michael which ones do you want? And Michael said.. "all of them!" George Benson was also a lucky artist to receive a rod temper tin master piece.
Manhattan Transfer got one of his classics with "Mystery."
And Anita Baker got to record 'Mystery' in her version. One of my faves by her. So seductive and sexy. 😏
yes
@@christophermiller7532 some very cool stuff in "mystery." but I think the unsung rod temperton classic is heatwave's "star of the story"
@@romulus_ Fantastic song.
The greatest version of this song I’ve ever heard 😮😮
Superb!
THIS ALBUM 40 YEARS LATER IS STILL BETTER THAN THE GARBAGE THATS OUT TODAY!!!!!
#RIPMJ
#RIPRODTEMPERTON
TO KEEP YOUR MEMORY ALI VE ROD TEMPERTON I WILL BE KNOWN AS THE BLACK ROD TEMPERTON!!!! I HAVE SO MANY HIT SONGS IM WAITING FOR MY CHANCE TO SHOW WHAT I HAVE!!!!!!
Don’t keep us waiting. Share your gift with the world. Imagine if Rod and MJ kept all this stuff to themselves ... we’d all be cheated. Show us what you got!🎸🎼🎹🥁🎻🎤🎧🎺
To my ears, "Off the Wall" remains Jackson's best record.
I'm right there with you on how great our stuff was. And I brag about it to the younger generation all the time. But I don't go as far as to say that all of today's stuff is garbage. There's a certain percentage of it that's pretty outstanding.
@@DLBlckwl I think the mainstream music is garbage. All the new Grime and Rap just makes my ears bleed honestly. There are some artists like Lizzo who are now coming to public eye who make amazing songs, she just made a song that is very 80s soul and reminds me very much of Thriller era. I hope one day i can make a dent in the music industry
Quincy Jones was one of the baddest producers to ever LIVE!!
I was about 10 years old when this song came out. I still remember listening to it on a 45 watching it spin on the turntable. I still love it as much as ever. It never gets old.
10 years old and you look like that!
Me too! My mother bought me the LP and still have it. Nothing like that wax sound. It's a collectors item and I won't part with it.
#classic
I was 10 too. Off the wall is the first album I ever owned.
This is a much fuller version of the song. I love it. The horns are so crisp. Beautiful work.
This song breaks my heart! Do you know how damn badly I wish this level of musical genius never ended?!? I don’t even just mean right temperature in and Michael Jackson, Earth wind and fire, LTD, ELO, it’s just so sad those days never seem to be coming back, not even a modern iteration of them. :(
I can hear so much HEATWAVE in this particular song...I actually seen Michael Jackson OFF THE WALL LIVE in concert in my city with special guest LTD *(Jeffrey Osborne). During this particular time I really didn't know that ROB TEMPERTON of *(HEATWAVE) producer songs for this particular album. I'm a fan of both Michael Jackson and Heatwave. I was 13yrs old when I witnessed Michael Jackson "OFF THE WALL" tour LIVE.
Yeah.
I was right there when OFF THE WALL came out, and I was already a Heatwave fan (my second all time favorite group after Earth, Wind & Fire) and the first thing I said to myself - as an 11 yr. old ‐ was that sounds like BOOGIE NIGHTS!
So I immediately knew it was Rod Temperton (R.I.P), who as an 11 yr. old, I was already well aware of since he was already one of my ALL time favorite songwriters!
The groove line!
Que envidia te tengo, pero tuve la suerte de presenciar a Michael en vida, muchas generaciones tienen solo que escuchar su música e imaginarlo
3:04 the Best part
Love that part too
Thank god people are, finally recognising the genius that was RT. I’ve followed him since early Heatwave. His arrangements, style, innovation are incredible.
This sound like a version that would have been huge in Studio 54
The best album of Michael Jackson...
Best album of a pedophile.
Debatable
agreed
Greg Phillinganes has said numerous times that Rod Temperton left nothing to the imagination. Every single note was written out on manuscript paper like a true composer. Quincy Jones invited RT to LA for the recording of Michael Jackson's debut album and asked RT to bring a song. Temperton brought 3 songs and Michael Jackson loved all three. There are stories that MJ went missing during one recording session - they found him dancing in the back parking lot singing Off The Wall. I think it speaks volumes that it was Rod Temperton's songs that MJ named his first two albums after. For those of us who grew up with Heatwave, we know the genius that Rod Temperton brought to the table. Kudos to Quincy Jones for recognizing it.
Off The Wall was Michael’s 5th solo album.
I grew up with Heatwave
Rod Temperton has alway,s been a great song writer, i,m from London and was a Studio musician at the time when Heatwave were big and i,m friendly with the guys. Rod was great but not really that recognised, but i think it was Quincy,s geniius to put these to special talents together that should be praised, he bypassed all those hot writers in L.A & New York and opted for a not so well known white boy from Grimsby in England to spearhead Michael Jackson to super stardom and boy did it work.
It’s one of my favorite songs of Michael Jackson off the wall is an awesome song and album
Yeah 🎵🎶🎵 Rod’s Magic Shines Through MJ💯👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💯
Michaels Voice no one could’ve sang it better
As always the bass line KILL (Louis Johnson)
Typical Rod Temperton's Bass Line (Boogie Nights, Groove Line).
The greatest Jazz funk album of all time.
Damn, what a composition , what a voice...
Fantastic groove by drummer John Robinson. 👏
5'34 is not enough... I gotta replay it again and again... pure joy
Fkin Masterpiece!
All of it. Each instrument, each band member. Rod, Quincy, Michael.
Just masterful.!
FOREVER NUMBER ONE.

Omg..the full works!!
Quel joyau! La quintessence des musiciens, des arrangements,de la musique de Monsieur Rod Temperton et une pensée à toi Michael pour ton immense talent.thanks for the post!
Leave your 9 to 5 on the shelf and just enjoy yourself, brilliant lyrics.
Enjoy Yourself was a top 10 hit for the Jacksons in ‘76.
4:43 I just heard his deep voice in that part and I realize that maybe, probably he sang "2000 watts" from the “Invincible" album without voice editing. This is amazing, thank you for upload, even sounds like some of those live sessions recorded yesterday friday hahah, I'm just trying to say it's great to see how some good songs are timeless, as if those were inspired by God. 🤍
That what he say to one interviewer that it all comes from above amazing
Even if you try to resist it, this song forces your body to move to its beat.
I like it so mush...New sound !!!!!! And orchestration.....
This was recommended to me by YT. Yes, they know me very well 💜💜
My favourite MJ song. I understand why Quincy changed it. Essentially this version (as cool as it is) plays all it trump cards from the beginning and everything is in action. There is no surprise. The album version starts much more stripped back and gradually other parts are introduced and the song builds. The album version builds to a climax - this version blows it load straight away. That’s the difference . Quincy was a genius for recognising that. Rod was a genius songwriter and MJ was obviously a genius.
Good point element of surprise album version, this version concert for sure
Facts. This mix is like a true Club/Disco mix.
"blows its load"😂😂😂 that sounded hilarious but you're right
Oh man... that instrumentation at the end was lush and gorgeous. Amazing.
Of course Rod Temperton was the centre of Heatwave. This still sounds so current.

They cut off so many things, kinda sad, but at least we can enjoy now
It reminds me summer times when I first bought the cd and was keep playing it...

this version is way better then on the record
So good
That’s a cassette in MJ’s hand. I know... it’s a 70s thang! 😃
It’s actually chalk
definitely a piece of chalk.
Nothing else to be said 🎤🎧🥁🪘🎸🎹🎻🎺🎷🎶🎵🔥🔥
It's sooo 70s. I like this version better.
Un des meilleurs albums de ce génie de la musique qu'était et restera pour toujours Michael Jackson ....
Just takin a selfie.. how’s my hair
Sounds like Heatwave; I would love to have heard produced by George Clinton.
Leave your worries behind!!!!
Ok I've read the astute comments on here....tbh this version would be released as a bonus. The "reprise" feel... it slaps harder....I mean you hear the party in the music like the whole band is grooving along with Michael.... It's more unhinged than the released classic imho
Wow wwwwawwe 💥💯👑🎤📱🎶🙏
James Bond with his gadgets.

Thanks ^^subscribe ♡MJ ♡🍀
what does MJ have in his hand??? a celli
🤔
Strings and vocal flourishes feel forced. This proves that most to all of Quincy's final cuts were definitive versions of the song. Sometimes the pared down versions provide the most musical experience.
I did like the extended MJ extended lead vocal. Hearing his voice for the first time for those extra minutes is the thrill. So take out the aforementioned unnecessary stuff and I think you have a second time hit song!
Nope, I believe this is the far superior version and is much more in line with the other dance tracks on the album and the 4 proceeding it which all had strong rhythm guitars and/or lush harmonies. The album cut is quite bare by comparison and always sounded incomplete. Now I understand why.
Nope; I agree with Manny; this outtake is historically interesting, to be sure; but the released version is the superior one, hands down.
CRW what would you base its superiority on? In my view, lyrics such as “We’re the party people night and day.” doesn’t make much sense as a solo vocal and this version brings in the ensemble vocalists to make the lyrics have more impact and set the context. Also, every dance track on the album has a rhythm guitar except “Off the Wall” yet original version brings it in and shows that Temperton had the ability to make music just as complex as Jackson.
@@MCharlerySmith Agreed!
MAN THIS IS CRAZY. I have always loved the whole Off The Wall album, until I listened to this original one. Everything I have heard is a lie.
It's my favorite by far.
Yessss my favorite album
h i s g r e a t e s t m a s t e r p i e c e .
that bassline!
Simon Hölldorfer tooooo funky I love it
Heatwave all over it!
Louis Johnson on bass guitar layered with Greg Phillinganes on moog bass.
💯 ✔️
Wooooow!!! Everybody that loves this song should hear this version!!! Def way better musically. I understand what they did and why the album version made the cut tho. They wanted to make Mike's vocals the focal point. I'm not mad at them for that. But this version in the clubs or live.... OMG!!!
I completely disagree... this mix is a mess. The disco strings are so cheesy too. I see the appeal for some, including the bass but blegh
@@SweetSoulBrother0
I agree. The album mix really gives you the emotion of the song. The commitment to living Off The Wall is in the album mix.
This mix has too many pop theatrics.
@Freline these strings would have made it sound way too disco, and none on the album I can think of are this bad or unnecessary
As much as I like it, I feel this version is to disco for the time. Remember the backlash against disco and during this period producers, musicians and artists were trying to distance themselves from the disco sound. With that being said I've only listened to it about 20 times in 3 days cause I for one like the era of disco.
@FrelineRock With You also has strings. It's just a matter of how tastefully it's done. I think the strings on this version of Off the Wall is way too much, knowing how it sounds without them
That looks like a smartphone in MJ's hand. Makes sense....he was ahead of his time.

@@mats6022 i knew it wasn't literally a smart phone. And thanks.
It really looks like
It,s a chalk holder.
Awesome sucess
Incredible! My favorite Michael album hands down and one of my favorite tracks on it.
Yes indeed.

Pure joy!
I agree .Better than Thriller in my opinion.
Rod the God!!! TEAM LIBRA.....
Wow. I’m dancing out of my chair at work.😂 Genius!!!!
the kind of songs that you dont want to finish
Sounds better than the released version
Honestly speaking
I'm not so sure. It's awesome though!
Indeed🔥
@@RobParksJr to each his own, but to me this one sounds better, has more music
@@alexm7627 it's definitely 🔥
You can here the Boogie Nights influence in the opening instrumentals.
this is definitely the sister song to boogie nights. heatwave was incredible.
Shout to my David Williams killing the rhythm guitar! Also shout out to my uncle Melvin Ragin aka Wah Wah Watson for playing several cuts on the Off The Wall album! RIP to both!!
What did he play on outside of this one?
@@trentonbates3114 Girlfriend, Get On The Floor which is one only favorites to this day. Can’t remember the rest but even he didn’t play on it he was the rhythm guitar supervisor for that project! I heard JR say that my uncle would often be laying on the couch calling out parts for Ray Parker Jr, David Williams, Paul Jackson Jr and others!RIP to MJ and Wah Wah!
@djcoolcliff thats insane, imagine the jam sessions he must have been apart! And the demos he heard that we didnt oh so lucky! 😩😫

This is effin' gorgeous. Can this be downloaded? I could listen to this everyday all day!

The Quintet of Genius Songwriting by Rod, The Almost Perfect Production by Quincy Jones, followed by the artistic & scientific engineering mastery of Bruce Swedien & the impeccable musicianship of the musicians … all topped of by the Divine performance of arguably the Greatest Music Artist of our generation, if not ever … MJ
I'm just curious...if there are other videos of song written by Rod Temperton where fans flock to give him all the credit for a song being a hit. Or do we just do that for Michael Jackson songs that Rod wrote. Hmmm? Michael's biggest hits were written by MJ. When I go to I Can't Help It I just see so many comments about Stevie Wonder. I don't see any of their songs being celebrated like the ones that happen to have Michael Jackson's vocals.
Jacob's Trouble: Check out 'You put a move on my Heart's by Tamia. Might be one of the most exquisitly written ballads ever. Tamia's performance as well as Q's production put it over the top.
What a great sound this is.... Wow! Temperton magic living and grooving.
Hokey Smokes! This song brought me back to my childhood days. I nearly started crying, I never heard this version of the song before. It is so much more than the standard released version. Off the Wall and his Thriller albums were the apex of his career as far as I am concerned
Lo más maravilloso de RUclips es que me encuentro con estás joyas de la música nunca antes escuchadas❤como si fueran nuevas, hermosos tiempos aquellos en que los artistas nos hacían soñar y bailar
I'm telling you this is my favorite cut of this song besides the final version of course. Damn what couldn't Michael do this is incredible the only flaw I found in this song was that it ended
Special moroccan worldwide dedication for my cousin younes and his sister Badiaa belghiti mabrouk souktani originally from casablanca mers sultan 1961-2022
Love that percussion. They should have left the congas/bongos against that disco high hat in the Final Cut
Perfection!!!!!!
