- The Chameleon's unrivalled damage is quantified as we explore the first AR damage talent. I then provide a build to compliment this amazing weapon's ability and mitigate its shortcomings.
Thank you for all the work you put in to explaining the mechanics of Division 2. Hope to keep seeing your content.
It was my first exotic drop…. I used it so much when I first started playing that I got board and put it in my stash. Like many, I’ve been sleeping on it. Gonna give it another chance! Thanks for the great break down!
I’ve been WAITING for this. The Chameleon is my favorite gun
What i love the most about the camelion that NOBODY TALKS ABOUT is the fact that it changes color depending on what your standing on... thats soo cool
Division Dave spoke about it in my Nature of Assault Rifles video. It is very cool.
Kudos for showing the build running in open world scenarios where the range (or lack thereof) can really come out to bite you. I'm sure this build really screams in tighter quarters where you can catch spawns doors more easily. Cheers!
Thanks Caleb. This build is my new favourite run and gun build. Spawn doors are hilarious. With the Crusader shield and all buffs, damn, spawns are completely gone faster than you can say Chameleon.
New subscriber here. Great build! Very well thought out. Thanks for sharing the math and your gameplay tips.
Enjoy using it. It's really fun and you can tweek to how you like.
I'm running a 4 piece Strikers with Eagle's Grasp gloves, Providence with Obliterate, Crit Chance at 56%, Crit Damage at 110%, the Chameleon hits with numbers reaching 10-12K. Stability and reload time is increased to lightning fast.
Very informative video, thanks Fog 🤙
As an aside; I've noticed that travelling to Castle does not refresh Memento stacks but it does all the other stuff (ammo & kits, etc).
With this build I noticed I keep my Strikers stacks too. Cheers.
@@fogowar2022 I must pull my Chameleon out of the stash, dust it off, oil it up and try it again. It has been many, many months since I used it. I must try a version of this build, I've pretty much ignored Strikers since it came out (apart from a legendary build).
@@garyschei Mine had some cobwebs before the vid.
Chameleon, just got buffed.
The reload buff with this gun makes you feel like you’re in golden bullet. Which btw I wish they would give us the specs (exact numbers) of what we receive in the global events. IE in golden bullet you receive additional 200% weapon handling for 5 sec while you have the bullet, in shd exposed you receive up to 100% extra damage until you transfer exposure which then you do additional 100% damage, or reanimated does 2X headshot damage, etc. Im not sure exact numbers but something to that affect. And while most of them you can guesstimate what those numbers are, it’d still be cool to know exactly what they are. Another great job with this video btw keep them coming
Lovely. I prefer keeping the Forge as Yellow. I find 2 yellow cores to be significantly more refresh then a 170K larger pool. 3/3/2 feels like a sweetspot with Memento for me. I like the logic for the chest piece, one that I had not considered. Thanks Fog!
You're probably right, yellow Forge heaps easier to farm too. But there's a lot to be said for that juicy bonus armour.
I'd like to see a video specifically devoted to the topic of diminishing returns. I know you mention it a lot in your videos but when someone asks about it, it would be really handy if you had a short video just on that topic I could link for people.
It wasn't my best work but my Short Kiss Goodbye video does an okay job. I have a video in the works about my build philosophy and I'll talk about it more there.
I think the range issue is muted with a Golden Bullet!
Bye FAR the most important thing for me is max 60% crit chance... if i cant get it there then im not happy
I'm not sure that 60% crit is optimal. The crit bonus is the easiest to achieve and you're leaving a lot of damage on the table losing out on the 20% crit chance offered. If you're running Obliterate, might be a different story. In the video, I'm running around 52% I think.
1 setup I really enjoy the Chameleon with is 3pc Striker, 1pc Hotshot, 1pc Fenris with Obliterate, and Ninjabike. The amount of weapon handling makes Chameleon a laser and makes it more effective at ranges it normally does poorly at. Fenris Reload and Weapon Handling gives it a really fast starting reload so I don't need the Leg Bonus and can best use my time focusing on the Chest and Head bonuses.
Nice. I just find it almost impossible to give up the Memento. It just elevates this build to run and gun beast mode.
@@fogowar2022yeah I have slowly weened myself off Memento in most builds and opting for Ninjabike as it allows me to choose other utility to spread across my build albeit with lower stats but up front; especially weapon handling.
Memento is definitely one of the best options for run and gun though.
My setup makes Chameleon feel more like and AR and less of an SMG and I don't worry about the Safehouse resetting my trophies if I need to top off my grenades, armor kit, or cleanse the fragile armor issue.
@@syngeist Not having to collect trophies is a bonus for sure.
Excelente construccion con memento, Like y Sub
Using Chamalenos sinc release. Each of my character have it as "must have" intem same as Coyotee and Memento. Now sure with St. Elmo, which is consistent and my go to AR. Chameleon is pretty good, but need to be charged before it gives you maximum possible.
As you can see from the numbers, it doesn't have to be at max to be great and you'd be surprised how often you can get those buffs refreshed between encounters. It's almost never at base level. On this build, even if you've moved onto the next encounter without buffs, it generally means you're carrying a tonne of striker stacks with you to balance it out.
Perfect example of why the st Elmo’s doesn’t need to be nerfed. By your own rankings a Chameleon outperforms it lol
I'll take that on the chin. I was sleeping on the Chameleon. It's not apples for apples though. Every SMG (which essentially the Chameleon is) has a higher burst DPS. Even the P90 has a higher burst DPS than the Famas and the same mag size. Don't see too many people running around with that gun. In order to make the Chameleon (or any SMG) work, I have to sacrifice damage on my build in order to play inside the optimal range of the weapon, closer to the enemy and a higher threat. When you factor that in, which you have to, the damage difference becomes less impressive but it makes the Chameleon a perfect Exotic. It's only better because it offers something unique. Just keep in mind, we haven't factored in uptime, nor the damage added by the St E's talent either.
I'm happy for you to take this as some sort of moral victory if you want because I was genuinely surprised by the numbers.
I think the Forge holster only buffs the base damage of the shield before any tier increases. So there might be better options. Maybe the Chill Out mask?
You're right about the Forge but when the Memento efficiency buffs multiply on top, it's a decent chunk of shield health. Motherly Love gloves might also be an option, wouldn't be quite as much healing or possibly shield health? but similar results.
Fog great video as always. Love how you incorporated survivability into your build. Do think a Hunters Fury or True Patriot version with say an obliterate chest piece and the Memento would work too?
Obliterate is saying I want all my damage up front and people don't factor in that it abandons you after just 5s, as well as how long it takes to get to 25crits (when you're killing everything in 5-10bullets). I think the Strikers chest piece is perfect in this build because if you've lost your Chameleon buffs, you're just building more Strikers stacks (at 1035RPM) and they last for way longer than people give them credit for.
I'll be honest, despite all of the great aspects to Hunters Fury, I've never fallen in love with it. It's really hard to be within 15m ALL THE TIME and there's nothing to balance the damage output when you're not. I also find the stacks degenerate really fast. I really struggle to recommend anything other than Strikers.
Makes sense, thanks for the feedback I appreciate it!
This is a good example of why it is in no way necessary to nerf the Elmo or the new smg.
You might be right but let's wait for all the numbers to play out. This is literally the first talent explored and uptime isnt factored in yet. The new SMG is not as good as people think. Same old story of the Dps trap and only looking at one aspect.
I've been running it lately...you have to take more chances. But its a beast...
That's the nature of SMGs (which the Chameleon is in essence), you have to play close, which spices things up.
@fogowar2022 Yeah man, love this game. Look I made a random build last night with the basic version of the king breaker. But I put all weapon handling and stability on it. So I can be mobile and accurate. I been playing two years straight watch 5k and I'm still learning. I didnt even put extra rounds because there's a 20% stability mode. With striker and the way I set it up. It's a laser and power, plus running memento so stack up its over 200k weapon damage like 250 or something like this. 30 rounds I can take down 3 reds in heroic 4 with head shots...
Still wish it was an SMG not an AR. Compared to other builds it is just a bit lackluster to really enjoy the full buff. But for new players this will probably be a fun build.
I think it outclasses in either weapon category (if you build for it). Damage to health and 50 round mag elevates it above other SMG and the Optimal Range/Accuracy it what sets it apart from other AR. You should try the build Stevo. Scooting around with avg over 3Mil armour, 6Mil shield and absolutely destroying NPC is hella fun, not just for new players.
@@fogowar2022 I might dust it off
Thanks
It was my pleasure to rediscover the Chameleon. You've been trying to tell me for ages. I should be sending you money. Thank you.
@@fogowar2022 My pleasure sir, now the fun begins when you start using it with the negotiation dilemma to spread the multi death or hunters fury even though you lose 20% WDMG as its allocated to SMGs which make no differences. Have fun and i'm sure you release a Chem Vs ARs series to try and find a worthy successor. Brapp Brapp Brapp.
Enemies disappear too quickly for Negotiators. They die when just marking them. Maybe it's a Legendary build idea. Hmmm.
Biggest problem I have with Chameleon is ammo economy. Always seem to run out too early compared to every other weapon.
Try this build. The Chameleon has to play at close range. Once you get out past 25m, the reduced efficiency of the weapon means you'll burn through ammo trying to take down enemies.
@@fogowar2022 will do. Probably the reason why im burning through so much is playing at longer ranges than optimal for the weapon.
Leg shots ironically the hardest for me to achieve.
On Reds yes sir kills them so far it doesn't register some times on elite upwards then its easy.
I tend to go for it last for that reason and try to carry it into the next engagement refreshed, with all three buffs. It's then a race to complete the engagement inside 45s.
Not a fan of this exotic, pretty much useless beyond 20m. Besides my aim is atrocious, most of my shots probably land in the legs/feet. I don't need to target that area, I think that's an asinine requirement to proc a damage buff anyway 🙄
It's my new favourite. Especially on this build. I realised whilst making this video that I reduced my holdings down to only one, now I'm farming for another so that I can make more builds with it on other characters.
@@fogowar2022 if you're ever in my group and one drops I'll share it before it has time to make it in inventory at DV2 game server. I don't know how many of those I've deconstructed. They drop in lvl 30 as well, and I still deconstruct them 🤣
As strong as it is, the "feast or famine" aspect of it is what I least like about it other than the relatively short effective range. I like consistency, but it is nice if you can bring it into the next fight and clean up in
The 4 piece Strikers, with the chest, does a really good job of smoothing any famine into a hearty meal. If you dropped the Chameleon buffs, it means you were stacking a tonne of Strikers. Especially at 1035RPM.
@@fogowar2022 ya... still super short ranged and inaccurate even when it's in kill mode. 🤷♂️
