Fabulous.... I drove over this in 1978 in a Leyland camper van... expecting it to explode at any moment, but it amazed us by chugging up the thousands of feet in the cold .... an amazing bit of engineering, especially some of the hairpin bends that were supported in mid air by a pylon anchored to the side of the mountain lower down...

I also went on a coach trip from the uk to lake Como in 1963 and my mum insisted we sit at the very front of the coach. The coach was too big to go round those bends so the driver would pull forward so the coach appeared to be hanging in mid air over the edge and then back up so he could get the coach round the bend it was scary but also great fun to remember. Thank you bring back such great memories.

Lago di Como is my fav place to be in Italy, I hope you did visit Varenna, its like a fairy tale world... a must see.
And yes the Gotthardtunnel and pass in Swiss is great to do :)

To reply to some of the comments...
All footage was shot with a single DJI Phantom 3 Advanced, on a single battery, so around 20 minutes of flight time.
The actual ride was done downhill and then a return back up, but it made more sense when editing to swap this around, as the majority of the interesting footage was of the uphill run.
Music is rights-free. I'd have loved to have stuck something a little more recognisable on there, but didn't want to go upsetting any apple carts.
Most footage is straight form the drone, some small edits to nullify jerky controls and a couple of dolly zooms in places to highlight the sheer scale of the scenery, then just simple colour adjustments and the Marmite vignette.
Thanks for all the nice comments folks.

One of my favorite stretches of road. I ride it every chance that I get. I like both the history and the fact that I almost always have it all to myself. A great Thank You to the crews that keep it in repair - it is a LOT of work.

I still have my denim cut off I used to wear over my leather jacket when I rode in the 80s - the logo on the back was a skull and crossbones with the words 'LET THOSE WHO RIDE DECIDE'. Great days.

bin 1973 den Tremolo von Airolo nach Andermatt gefahren, aber abends spät und wusste nicht, dass die Strecke gesperrt war.
In Airolo waren keine Schilder sichtbar.

Was this the one I drove over the Alps in 2007...scared the living heck outta me without guard rails around the curves , it felt like the car would simply fly off into the sky. I remember putting down the sun visor... don't know why that helped..maybe so I didn't see the sky. I gripped that steering wheel the whole way over. Wow..what a memory. I was terrorized in such beautiful landscape.

I'm coming at this late...in 2020. The video is so well done and the drone footage is breathtaking. My only suggestion to improve this would be to include the rider going through the turns instead of just accelerating out of them. This is a really common thread in mountain motorcycling videos and for riders who are still determining how to ride in this kind of terrain, like myself, it would be so helpful to see more experienced riders as they approach, execute and exit a turn in twisties like this.

Hi Sticky Stuff. If you like to ride your bike, I recommend you to go in Summer from Geneva by Wallis the two Pass Furka and Oberalp in Direction Ilanz (Graubünden). But you need several hours.. It's amazing. This route is also possible with the train. You will see, what our former people were able to build at that time. You will never forget this ride. And in top of every Pass, you can eat and drink in the restaurant and buy some souvenirs. But don't drink too much alcohol, you need concentration.. If you fall down the street, you may wait a little bit for the doctor. The next hospital is sometimes miles away..
Drive carefully and enjoi🏍️😜. You may find any information in the Internet. Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭
