The other notable change is that the moved to a short shaft spool vs the long shaft that all the other DWU variants currently use. Again thanks for the video !!
Hey Scott! I think the reason why I said I don’t know if it’s worth it quite yet is because the DWU has been out for a bit. People are familiar with that reel and what it can and can’t do. This reel, even though it’s a clone, is kind of new and unknown. That being said, I’m sure I’m just being a bit over cautious as I don’t want to recommend a reel without knowing too much about it. The reel does claim the most number of bearings out of all the DWU clones I’m aware of so it has that going for it. It also has two available spools which the DWU doesn’t have, offers two different gear ratios and just right out of the box felt a lot smoother than my DWU. So is it a bad deal? My gut feeling says heck no and that it’s a good deal. Even with the static brakes I think it’ll cast just fine. I need to get out and do some distance testing though… So many things to do! Haha. Anyhow, thanks for watching and commenting and cheers to you!
Hello! Both are very similar but in my personal preference I like the Soloking. -easier to hold because of gloss paint -two spools available -1 extra bearing in reel As far as casting performance, I have not done any tests yet but I am assuming that they both are about the same. If you want the most performance the DWU might be better as you can revert back to dynamic style brakes or keep the current “updated” static brakes. To be honest, you can’t go wrong with either of these reels as they are virtually identical. I hope that helps and thank you for your comment!
On your newer version of the DWU, when you put in the tooth picks to make the brake system static again, did you leave in or remove the extra magnets you put in earlier?
Hi! Thanks for the question! I have the extra 0.5mm thick magnets removed and haven’t really put them back on the brake shoes. I was only able to fit two extra magnets, when they were on, to the middle two magnet positions. I feel that Tsurinoya made have upgraded the magnet strength so that you don’t really need to add magnets but I don’t have an older version to compare to so it’s all speculation. I believe bass n bonsai did that comparison between the old dynamic version and this newer static version. I don’t believe he added any magnets to the new static version and he found that the static version is better than the old dynamic version. This is why I want to see if the new static version is better or worse than the new dynamic version. I hope that helps and cheers!
@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL Thanks for the info. I have a static brake DWU and I did the same as you and added the 2 extra middle magnets to each of the two banks of magnets. I haven't test casted the reel yet with the extra magnets since i am using my older DWU which I added magnets to the dynamic brakes. Most likely I'll take off the extra magnets from the static DWU and use it with the standard static magnets. Thanks.
Hi mate nice vid.I have the Kingdom Micro monster and the DWU. Agree with you on the smoothness, for some reason the MM is smoother, also it casts smoother . That could be the bearings or the reel may be using different lubes to the distributers specs giving they are both the same reel in essence. Also although different design in the braking system, they are both static so theoretically there shouldn't be any if no difference. All I can say is I love both, maybe the M m a tad more but only because of the aesthetics which is a personal thing, and just that extra bit of smoothness. Cheers mate.
Agreed I’m not sure what’s causing this Acura reel to feel smoother than the DWU but it does. I am itching to get out to test these sooner rather than later so perhaps I’ll try to get out to the local park today. Anyhow, good to hear that the kingdom MM is also a strong performing reel! Thanks as always for watching!
@@chepachii hey James! yes! I’m excited to go digging through the acuras internals as well. Gotta check those bearing numbers and make sure they’re being honest with us. Thanks again for watching!
@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL Well forget that theory of mine lol, just checked my Micro monster and it says on the box and reel it has 8 plus 1. Just casted it up against the DWU and without upsetting DWU fans it is way smoother to cast. The DWU performance still around the same but the Mm less effort if that makes sense. Cheers.
@@chepachii interesting to see that more bearings doesn’t necessarily mean “better”. Iirc the Mm also has a heavier spool but the biggest different aside from the bearings and spool weight is the static brake system. I kind of get the feeling that dynamic brakes can get you a bit further distance but requires a bit of spool babysitting. Static brakes seem fairly… consistent and so maybe they’re more beginner friendly but cast slightly shorter? Distance tests are kind of difficult to do because what “parameters” do you use. Do you allow for spool thumbing or do you only look for no spool thumb casting… If I want to cast the furthest I’m going to thumb the spool but allow the brakes to just keep my spool from birdnesting during the cast. But yea… what should I go with for testing?… stuff to think about lol… anyhow thanks for the report back! Seems like the MM isn’t a bad option as well!
Question for me is do I gain any fishing advantage using a Soloking/Doviello Acura HICC-50 or Kingdom Micro Monster over using the DWU. Smoothness of the reel and spool spin times are not as important to me. Will I gain noticeable casting distance or drag performance over the DWU? I already have 2 DWUs and looking for reasons why to buy a Soloking or Kingdom.
Hey Eric! Fishing advantage between all of these variants are probably likely to be “imperceptible”. Anyways, that’s a really hard “thing” to quantify. If you’ve already got 2 DWUs I don’t really see a need to purchase a Soloking or Kingdom reel. This review was more to see what differences there are between these two reels and whether or not one is really better than the other. Imho, the Acura has a lot of things going for it over the DWU. That being said, this is my own personal opinion and what you want or need might be totally different. The DWU is by no means a bad reel and at the end of the day these reels are all essentially the same reel. Anyhow, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts! Cheers!
@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL I value your reviews and opinions and that's why i asked the question. i knew you would give me your honest answer. For me, if I only had one DWU, I would buy the Soloking Acura instead of the second DWU. The extra bearings and smoothness does count for something and we all like to see the free spool spin forever. Hey coty! I have two budget buyers guides that I made in 2022 that are still relevant today. I’ll link the playlist below but I do recommend the Acura over the genius. That being said they’re so close I don’t think you can go wrong with either. As for rods, there are BFS specific baitcasting rods which are essentially just UL baitcasting rods that have small “micro” guides closer to the upper half of the rod. Do you ever have or hear of the line going between the reel and spool when u get a small backlash? It’s happened to me 2 times and caused my 4lb flora to break each time it’s like the tolerances arnt very good
@@cotywarwick3100 hey coty! I think I have once but I haven’t had this happen after that. Out of curiosity, how much line do you have on your spool? It somewhat sounds like you may have too much line on the spool. Typically, you want around 50m or less of line. The other reason you may be experiencing this is because of the way that fluoro and mono loop during a backlash. Because the two materials have some stiffness they can cause the loops of line to protrude from the spool which then might get caught between the spool and the frame. Admittedly, these reels don’t have the tightest tolerances between the spool and the frame but a lot of reels in this price point don’t so it isn’t an issue isolated to the Acura but more something I’d chalk up to the price point. Let me know how much line you spooled or potentially consider trying braid out. I’ve only had the one issue with 0.6goh braid getting behind the spool. Hope that helps and cheers!
Hey Gary! Sorry for the late response. It appears the DWU and it’s variants(bk2, genius, Acura, etc) use a 8mm x 5mm pattern. I am not sure of other CDM reels as it may vary. Hope that helps and cheers!
I find it interesting that you still think the MM is better than the DWU and the Acura. In any case, all four of these variant reels are quite good in their performance. Sadly, I don’t think I will be purchasing another DWU variant anytime soon as the Acura satisfies my need for a budget friendly reel. Glad you were able to get a copy tho!
You can check out bass n bonsais review on both dw variants , according to him he notes no difference from his original that he added magnets to , to the new updated one that u don't need to fiddle with .
I saw his video on that comparison! Good to see that the new static system is on par with an upgraded older dynamic system for sure. What I’m a bit curious about is if the reverted dynamic system is the same or if it’s different from the newer static system ie is it worth changing the new reels back to a dynamic system. Also, I’m curious to compare this reel to that, and the $20 Linnhue and the $300 22’ alde haha. Im super keen to do a reel shootout of sorts. Appreciate the info, comment and view as always!
Between the updated DWU and the Acura I might give an ever so slight edge to the DWU but the difference is probably extremely negligible. Both reels will cast light lures fine but even better after upgrading the spool bearings. If given a choice between the DWU and the Acura I’d still probably choose the Acura due to its higher bearing count out of the box and painted finish(even though it’s not perfect).
Hi
Which one do you like better?
Darkwolf vs soloking
my preference
1.driving distance
2.reeling
I'm on the verge of approval... plz
Hello!
Both are very similar but in my personal preference I like the Soloking.
-easier to hold because of gloss paint
-two spools available
-1 extra bearing in reel
As far as casting performance, I have not done any tests yet but I am assuming that they both are about the same. If you want the most performance the DWU might be better as you can revert back to dynamic style brakes or keep the current “updated” static brakes.
To be honest, you can’t go wrong with either of these reels as they are virtually identical. I hope that helps and thank you for your comment!
Where can I get either one of these reels? I don’t know the ins and outs of shopping in other websites other than Tackle Warehous
@@sickassbeats you can see the link blow the video, click in it and buy it
On your newer version of the DWU, when you put in the tooth picks to make the brake system static again, did you leave in or remove the extra magnets you put in earlier?
Thanks.
@@zankyou101 hey Eric! That sounds good! If you can see a big difference between the two would appreciate a follow up! Thanks again!
@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL Hey RnR maybe the reel does have that extra bearing somewhere,be interesting to see your findings
But, since I've already invested in the second DWU, I guess I'll wait for the next wave of new and improved reels to decide if i need to add another reel. Thanks
@@zankyou101 hey Eric! I appreciate the kind words and yes I will always do my best to be up front and honest! I do think the difference between the reels is really small but sometimes those small differences make a big difference to some. Shrug haha everyone’s different. In our day and age we as consumers need to do our due diligence and research on the things we spend our money on. Anyhow, I greatly appreciate your opinion and comments as well! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers!
@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL FYI, Soloking/Doviello Acura HICC-50 going on sale for $72 for the 2 spool version starting Aug 22. Tempting again! The second spool option is a plus.

Thinking about getting ether the Acura or the genius witch do you think is better? And I’m completely new to bfs what kind of rods are guys using like regular ultra light rods? Or is there like bait casting specific rods for bfs
Here is the playlist I mentioned:

Hope that helps and cheers!
do these chinese reels use 8x5 or 7x4 handle cranks?
Hey Gary! Sorry for the late response. It appears the DWU and it’s variants(bk2, genius, Acura, etc) use a 8mm x 5mm pattern. I am not sure of other CDM reels as it may vary. Hope that helps and cheers!
@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL thank you.
@@garyjones4321 my pleasure Gary!
just picked up the Doviello 7.1. Very good, better than the the DWU and truly not as good as the MM 7.1(pink.) Freespools as well as the Aldebaran.
Which reel is capable of casting lighter lures?
Between the updated DWU and the Acura I might give an ever so slight edge to the DWU but the difference is probably extremely negligible. Both reels will cast light lures fine but even better after upgrading the spool bearings. If given a choice between the DWU and the Acura I’d still probably choose the Acura due to its higher bearing count out of the box and painted finish(even though it’s not perfect). Hope that helps and cheers!
@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL how can you tell if it’s the upgraded DWU on AliExpress?
@@tannermccalister9841 it’s the one currently being sold on the Tsurinoya aliexpress store. There’s nothing to really tell you it’s the updated version. From my understanding all of the old versions have been sold out and they are now only selling the updated version. Cheers tanner!
will this cast trout magnets just fine?
Hey Duck! The reel can cast 1g lures however a large part of the casting equation comes from the rod, line, conditions and you(the caster) as well. If you want to really make the reel a top notch performer you can also look into the spool bearing upgrade. Hope that helps and cheers!

Im fucking mad at myself.... I made an order for one last week. An order for a RIGHT HAND one as I am RIGHT HANDED and i just watched you unbox the _'left hand operated'_ version... Im stuck with a reel i cant even use and proper right handed ones are all sold out!!! fuck!
Hey saber! Sorry just trying to clarify your frustration. You are right handed and you prefer a left handed reel? Most right handlers do but there are a few that still use right handed reels. You still can use a RH reel but you’ll have to swap hands after casting or learn how to cast left handed. Alternatively, you can reach out to the seller and see if something can be done. Finally, if they are oos of LH reels you can wait as they usually replenish their stock of reels. Just need to keep an eye out for them and the price will be similar to what the sale price was. Maybe a few dollars more expensive? It varies a bit so it’s hard to say. Anyhow, I hope you get the issue resolved! Let me know how things go and sorry again to hear about that… cheers my friend!
@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL I am right handed and obviously prefer reels where the handle is on the left hand side. (I guess this is what they call 'left hand operation' !! - I wish i'd read their listing more carefully then assume the reel was for right handed use)
Unfortunately since its been about a week, Its already been shipped. Not a whole lot I can do but wait for it arrive then go through the returns process and cross my toes that i do get my money back.
I did have a quick look to see what other options for around the same $67 mark were available. Found another seller for the Acura but they are charging an extra $23 - I kind of do want to but I'm not paying that. Not when I literally had it for $67.
The only real option I have is either I pick up a KastKing Zephyr - which is an inferior reel compared to the Acura (and doesnt come with spare spool...) or wait till I get the refund (if i get the refund) and wait again till the Acura goes on sale again because im sure the sale will be over by the time I get my money back.
Im a cheapskate and not looking to get in on BFS bandwagon unless its at rock bottom prices or as little as possible. I already secured a BFS rod for $25.

Above 5 bearings you don't get better Performance so 10 or 11 make nothing
Hi Soren! Actually, I think the only bearings you need for “performance” are the spool bearings. All the other bearings on the reel just help with support and “smoothness”. That being said, high end reels typically have 10 or more bearings to help reduce friction, reduce any sort of flexing, and improve smoothness. Thank you for sharing and cheers my friend!
