I’m 16 and 2 months in after becoming extremely underweight and it’s so hard with summer around the corner and weight gain being so out of proportion I also have exams for a full month this month😩
I had some medical issues recently that made me lose less than 10 lbs, and that 10 lbs has messed with my whole body, along with some moderate blood loss due to a minor procedure. I have Crohn’s and my GI track has definitely joined the party. Dealing with extreme hunger because your iron is low and your immune system is in a revolt becomes much more challenging when you get sick after 5 bites. Being nauseous and hungry at the same time is awful! One thing I’m trying to do that I plan on continuing is eating a proper breakfast. I have never been a breakfast person. It makes me nauseous. When I was a kid I’d actually throw up from it half the time. I suspect I was having Crohn’s issues even back then because I know a lot of people with GI issues have this happen, if they try to eat first thing in the morning. I used to have to wait a few hrs, but now I’m doing some sort of V8 style fruit and veggie juice or carnation instant breakfast with fruit, and then having either peanut butter toast, oatmeal with peanut butter, or eggs about an hour later with some mint tea. It is annoying having to basically eat two small breakfasts. I would kill to eat one big one and enjoy it like everyone else I know except my husband (he’s a type 1 diabetic and has to do what I do because he will have a glucose spike and drop). But this is better than nothing I guess. I honestly do several small meals throughout the day so my digestive track doesn’t fight me. I will have a sandwich at times when people have snacks, and then eat another one an hour later because it’s not easy to get enough food with Crohn’s, sometimes. I feel like I am always eating but always wishing to eat more.
And I'm always hot lol.. 2:44 .. I have zero symptoms other then anxiety Brian fog and fatigue but after these past 6 months of resistant training and started running again those went away .. minus 2 times where I got sick with extreme fatigue. .inwas over working myself. After a couple s days off and eating a surplus of calories. Like 3500 plus went back to normal then I was able to go back to normal diet. Again right now I feel better then I ever have .. but still no period
I also Was on raw food for 10 years and intermited fasting ginishinh my meals at 5 pm. I was super skiny but my body detoriarate. My period were kind of regulary cause i was eating lots of fats but spacing beatween period started to get more space. Now i eat 80 raw or less and cooked food sourdough bread bread yes i cook on litlle oil etc but i do not eat junk food simply cause i do not like it. My period is regulary now and i feel much better. Its so important that you brough this to light because it Will help other people that they can healthy body on real vegan food.
When u said "u r like bottomless pit" i chuckles for a second i totally felt it😢 its very difficult for me to explain this issue to ppl around me.. i sometimes find it so funny how dangerous hungry i have become😂 but now i have come to accept it (Been 4 days fully committed into this journey)
What a journey. You're doing great! Again, thank you for sharing with us. I can't imagine the digestion issues during this experience. How is your digestion now? Did you find out if there is anything going on with your hip? What is your natural body type/genetics? Sounds like you were really going against the state at which your body wanted to exist.
So true!!!! lol The digestion gets a little better each week, but still experiencing difficulties. I have a labral tear where the femur meets my hip socket in both hips ☹️ My family is very slim. I assume my weight will gradually reduce until I'm back to a happy set point. I will keep everyone posted on this! Great questions!
Sorry to hear about the labral tear in your hips. Is it unusual to have it in both hips? Did you find out from an xray or did you need an mri? What symptoms do you have? Does is come and go? What makes it worse? Curious because I'm having a new issue with my left hip at the moment.@@NaturallyKarli
If you are experiencing any weird locking, pinching, inner groin pain, or decreased range of motion in that hip you may want to speak with a sports medicine doc. I had an MRI. I'm still researching the details of the condition so I better not provide further info in case I'm totally wrong. I would encourage you to google labral hip tear and see if anything sounds familiar to your circumstance. Good luck!
Yes, as a long time daily runner, all of the sudden I can't run because it starts to pinch in the front of my hip. I believe I somehow injured it trying spinning for two months. I will try seeing my ortho, but in my experience he just wants to see me if there is something serious he can operate on. What does your labral tear keep you from doing? You seem to be okay on long hikes. If you have been dealing with this for a long time, it sounds like a labral tear is something that doesn't ever get better? That is very discouraging news. @@NaturallyKarli
Can you do some videos on how to gain this weight. Did you purposely up your protein or fat? If so how and with what foods. I got the more grains less veggies tip in this one so thank you. Best:)
Hi Jeremiah, I hope you're feeling better. I paid zero attention to macronutrient ratios while gaining this weight. Just paid attention to the principles of calorie density👍
Hello from London lovely Karli, I hope you'll get this message. Just wondering if you're OK and wishing you well. Sending you love and remember you're an intelligent, beautiful and kind person, it doesn't matter if you've put on some weight, there'll be plenty of time to lose it at your own pace once you've fully got your health back. Take care, Lulu x
Me neither lol! Slimness seems to be a slippery slope. I'm glad I was able to come to my senses; ) So nice to hear from you, Aly! I hope your health is in a better state than mine haha😘
did you make sure to incorporate processed food too? i don't mean at all to sound as though i'm critiquing, but for anyone reading this, it can be helpful to realize that sticking with 'clean' foods while refueling can be interpreted by our bodies to be another form of restriction, which can prolong the process. processed foods can also be way easier to digest when we're still recovering from gastropesis and extreme bloating and stuff
Again, I appreciate your perspective, but humans have only had man made processed foods for last hundred years (almost). So I find it hard to believe that my body requires artificial food to recover from scarcity.
I've messed up my hunger cues by excessive restrictions, I did intermittent fasting, much exercise, the last straw was ketogenic diet :( I don't feel hungry that often, and the sight of much food, because in WFPB you need tons of food to make up the calories, scares me. Sometimes I hate myself after eating 100g of nuts, although my total calories in a day was still
@@ksenia.razina hello! Wowwww I wrote that comment in mid-March and now mid-June, I've got 2x cycles back :) Within 3 months, what changed was my eating habit. It's still whole foods, I don't eat UPFs, but now my diet has red meat, chicken, eggs, and dairy again. My obgyn found a cyst in one of my ovaries, but we didn't do anything as benign. I was also diagnosed w autoimmune, but really what helped to slowly switch on the "heat generator" in my body is my new eating habit. I said heat because my autoimmunity is triggered by cold, which also appeared last winter. Previous years I was OK with winter.
Do you think you would’ve gotten faster results or less bloating or quicker satiation had you eaten animal proteins? I’m vegan and probably need more calories for similar issues but I’m afraid all the plant food never satiates me
Are you eating enough healthy starches (grains, potatoes, and this season, yummy chestnuts) and legumes and also some healthy fats like avocado, nuts, seeds? You can be very satiated on a WFPB way of eating, just eat more or bigger portions.
Grains and nuts were particularly satiating while in recovery. But now I'm back to the usual, flaxseed, beans, tubers, squash, and grains for long term satiety. On days I exercise I always include a large helping of oatmeal and sometimes even, an additional meal. I hope you find something that works for you, Anne. As far as the animal foods- I didn't like the idea of creating additional health problems, so I just refrained. They might have caused less bloating but highly refined foods probably would too.
I am glad you were able to recover from this condition without adding animal products. I think a healthy plant-based diet is ideal for human health. But, over exercising and, not consuming enough calories can cause a lot of harm. I hope you continue to heal.
Congrats Karli!! Even though I have never been vegan, am I the only one who is craving meat, eggs, cheese so badly??? I think I could eat a ton of that :( More than a man, lol! Oh and of course chocolate. Chocolate everywhere! I am not craving starches (except for bread) and legumes... Is that maybe bad or/and unhealthy? :(
I lost my period for over 8 years .I honestly just lost track .. I was weight ..not under weight..I have been under weight lost period in .y teenage years but gained weight had 3 kids ..and lost the weight again not trying to ..iv always been athletic.. thin after having kids..then inlost it 8-9 years later I just started gaining weight went from liken110 to 120 got my period back ..then lost it .then had it for 2 days then dodnt come.back ..then came back and now I haven't seen it for 2 months but I'm at my highest weoght in a while ..iv had test.. been told i had hypothyroidism..been put on synthroid. Then they wanted to give me.somthing to start my period with medicine but I refuse ..I wanna do it natural...the VA ( military dr) just wants to force pills down your throat 😢.. other then that I'm at my most healthiest iv gained a few lbs of muscle .eating high protein and well balanced meals .period just won't come back ..again 117 . 23 % body fat..
i'd encourage you to challenge why you want to stop eating 2-3 hours before bed, and why going to bed with food in your stomach bothers you, so that you can truly get free of all restriction, and of its effects on the body
It bothers me bc it causes discomfort and sometimes indigestion. GERD is usually exacerbated by lying down too soon after eating. Not everyone is “restricting” when they decide to eat a particular way that works for them
That’s not restriction, that’s just healthy way, healthy regimen. The sleep is better, when you go to bed after as minimum couple of hours after last food. Sleep is important key to right hormonal work )
@@ksenia.razina when you truly feed the body what it’s asking for for long enough it will trust you again and you can heal. that will likely mean that you’re not hungry before bed. If you’re hungry and you’re not feeding yourself exactly what your body is asking for because you’re restricting for any reason, whether it’s due to timing or something else, that’s disordered eating behavior.
All the love to you for sharing. Maybe you need more fat in the diet instead of vegetables. I eat lots of fat nuts seeds olive oil pumpkin oil avocado and im not fat. I thing its time to let go of this myth of fat you eat is fat you wear. Also including Spirulina and chlorella and afa algae. But fats are crucial for recovery. You added more calories but maybe to add more fat its Just suggestion. On morning oat meal put some almond butter or so. All the love and healing to you❤
Now research is showing for women intermittent fasting isn’t great and excercise fasting isn’t effective, Dr Stacy Sims interview on Andrew Hubermans podcast is really good. Great reminders to listen to our bodies over research as research is always changing.
i have to speak up for anyone reading this to say that in 28:30, this is still a disordered messaged. all foods are part of a healthy diet. if you're in recovery and craving non-whole foods, it's because your body needs them. please listen to it. if you don't, the recovery process can be much longer and more difficult than it has to be
That's the usual carnivore excuse. Animal foods would only help you get all sorts of other health issues and are unnecessary for a healthy diet and lifestyle. There is the ethical issue too, I will not take a life, every animal has the desire to live and thrive just like we do.
@@luluandmeow I actually typed the reply before finishing the video 🤦🏾♀️I didn't know she was vegan I just saw what she was eating. Yes, I agree and love animals. She definitely shouldn't do anything that goes against her ethics. First time seeing the channel. Stay healthy

I’m sorry to hear you’re having a hard time. Good luck on your journey ❤️🩹
This is so helpful and interesting. Thank you for doing this. I will be rewatching this to help get better ❤

(Been 4 days fully committed into this journey)
What a journey. You're doing great! Again, thank you for sharing with us. I can't imagine the digestion issues during this experience. How is your digestion now? Did you find out if there is anything going on with your hip? What is your natural body type/genetics? Sounds like you were really going against the state at which your body wanted to exist.
So true!!!! lol
The digestion gets a little better each week, but still experiencing difficulties.
I have a labral tear where the femur meets my hip socket in both hips ☹️
My family is very slim.
Good luck!
Thank you Karli@@NaturallyKarli
Hi Lulu! Thanks so much for checking in on me. I’m doing great! Just struggling to find time to make videos lol. Hope you’re doing well!!!!😘
Omg I had no idea you were going through this.
Me neither lol! Slimness seems to be a slippery slope. I'm glad I was able to come to my senses; ) So nice to hear from you, Aly! I hope your health is in a better state than mine haha😘
Such a great video. I hope I can do this but I find it so hard to sit and rest because I have severe tinnitus.
Sorry to hear that. Hope things get better soon
Thank you
did you make sure to incorporate processed food too? i don't mean at all to sound as though i'm critiquing, but for anyone reading this, it can be helpful to realize that sticking with 'clean' foods while refueling can be interpreted by our bodies to be another form of restriction, which can prolong the process.
processed foods can also be way easier to digest when we're still recovering from gastropesis and extreme bloating and stuff
Again, I appreciate your perspective, but humans have only had man made processed foods for last hundred years (almost). So I find it hard to believe that my body requires artificial food to recover from scarcity.
Did you develop any cortisol issues from all this /fatigue issues
I've messed up my hunger cues by excessive restrictions, I did intermittent fasting, much exercise, the last straw was ketogenic diet :( I don't feel hungry that often, and the sight of much food, because in WFPB you need tons of food to make up the calories, scares me. Sometimes I hate myself after eating 100g of nuts, although my total calories in a day was still
Good luck on your journey!
How are you now?
@@TheGentleRoadmapSekarthank you for answer)
Does the rapid weight gain come with health consequences? E.g. causing insulin resistance
Great question! And no. Thankfully There’s such a thing as healthy weight gain
Why not buy Gr Gregers books. They will help you enormously. Eat lots of starches, beans, lentils, tofu, seitan, nuts and seeds.
I agree with you, Lulu, as always; )
Yes, all Dr. G's books are great.
I would like to know more about how you quit working out or cut back.
I cut down to leisurely walks and yoga alternating most days. I had to force myself to sit down! Lol Netflix and murder mystery novels were helpful
Also I eat over 1700 a day I don't cut out any nutrients full fats carbs ..( try lower sugar) tons of protien
I am glad you were able to recover from this condition without adding animal products. I think a healthy plant-based diet is ideal for human health. But, over exercising and, not consuming enough calories can cause a lot of harm. I hope you continue to heal.
Thanks so much! I continue recovering with my plant based diet currently. Things are still progressing
Why no nut butters, tahini avocado, tofu dates ect? Would be easier to get in calories without stuffing huge volume into & easier for digestion.
Yep, I was happy with my whole foods approach but you are correct 👍
I am suffering with this, can I reach out to you for help with this ?
Absolutely! Here is my email address: info@modernnutritiondesigns.com
We can set up a Zoom meeting too if that would be helpful
Relate.
I'm curious why little to no overt fats?
The higher fat content in the diet, the greater health consequences.
@@NaturallyKarli Same is said for the lower at diets & it helps with satiation - which you seemed to be struggling with.
Omg Iv been eating so many raisins lately.. 😅
the problem tho is that doctors know so little about this...the people who have actually experienced recovery are so much more helpful
💯
Congrats Karli!! Even though I have never been vegan, am I the only one who is craving meat, eggs, cheese so badly??? I think I could eat a ton of that :( More than a man, lol! Oh and of course chocolate. Chocolate everywhere! I am not craving starches (except for bread) and legumes... Is that maybe bad or/and unhealthy? :(
Are you recovering from HA?
Yes 😢 Being underweight for many many years 😢😢
❤️🩹
I lost my period for over 8 years .I honestly just lost track .. I was weight ..not under weight..I have been under weight lost period in .y teenage years but gained weight had 3 kids ..and lost the weight again not trying to
..iv always been athletic.. thin after having kids..then inlost it 8-9 years later I just started gaining weight went from liken110 to 120 got my period back ..then lost it .then had it for 2 days then dodnt come.back ..then came back and now I haven't seen it for 2 months but I'm at my highest weoght in a while ..iv had test.. been told i had hypothyroidism..been put on synthroid.
Sounds like you’ve been through a lot. Thanks for sharing your experience
Also chek out vata imbalances and ayurveda. Amanda Sevilla also has the same story shes vegan and she recovered maybe to chek her out.
Thanks, I will!
how does your condition differ from Anorexia?
That’s a great question. I’m not sure they’re mutually exclusive
i'd encourage you to challenge why you want to stop eating 2-3 hours before bed, and why going to bed with food in your stomach bothers you, so that you can truly get free of all restriction, and of its effects on the body
All the love and healing to you❤
Thanks so much! I eat flax in my salad and a handful of nuts now and then. 👍
Now research is showing for women intermittent fasting isn’t great and excercise fasting isn’t effective, Dr Stacy Sims interview on Andrew Hubermans podcast is really good. Great reminders to listen to our bodies over research as research is always changing.
Agreed. Although I’m not convinced by Dr Sims research either.
Thanks for sharing!
i have to speak up for anyone reading this to say that in 28:30, this is still a disordered messaged.
all foods are part of a healthy diet. if you're in recovery and craving non-whole foods, it's because your body needs them. please listen to it. if you don't, the recovery process can be much longer and more difficult than it has to be
Thanks for your perspective. I wouldn’t have changed a thing about my approach. Everyone is on their own path
Sounds like a lot of the same issues ex vegans share. I here high fat is great for female hormones. Including animal foods would probably help.
Thanks for your feedback: )
Agreed, Lulu♥️
