Maria Labo's background is actually more simple... Maria married a rich husband, when she was a daughter of a farmer. After having 2 kids, her husband left for a while for a business trip, and cheated on Maria... Knowing this, Maria, went insane and chopped up her kids, and fed them to the husband when he came back. As the husband was eating, he noticed a finger in the soup, and asked Maria where their kids were. Maria pointed at the soup, and the husband went furious, took a machete and swung at Maria, hitting her face, thus the gash. Maria ran away and was never seen since. This Urban Legend is very popular here in the Philippines, and the version of the stories may vary between regions. Love your videos !!!
i’m pretty sure that marble is the “bato” (stone) that aswangs (vampires) tend to have in urban legends. when old aswangs feel as though their end is nearing, they typically pass their bato onto someone, may it be a family relative or someone who is willing/unwilling. i’m guessing that’s what is influencing maria, because in some variations of the maria labo story, supposedly the old person she was taking care of was an aswang and passed it down to her unwillingly, and is also the cause for her insatiable taste for human flesh. in this particular variation of the story, she was working as a caregiver!
We all sinned and deserve hell But, Jesus came down from heaven and died and resurrected for us to be in heaven with him. To be in heaven, we have to place our faith in him and turn away from all of our sins
I think I remember my school getting suspended because there were rumors that Maria was sighted in our barangay (district). Most likely, my mother was just lying to me.

If I didn't read the title, I might have thought this was about chainmail chasers for the first minute (I am not so subtly asking you to make a vid on chainmail chasers if you havent already)
Tbh this was rather interesting as opposed to being scary for me; I love learning about new urban legends and mythology from around the world so learning about Maria Labo (both from and outside of the videos) has been really interesting!

Whilst I admittedly am not too familiar with the Maria Labo legend, the Aswang mythos is heavily implied here in this series. From the loss of self, the curse it is seen as, and the act of...eating specific things. Aswangs aren't exactly just vampires, they are a type of vampires that come from the Philippines. In many legends, they are seen as a family of such creatures instilled by a curse that is passed down through generations. And in many other legends, this is done by a cursed stone to be swallowed whole; although sometimes, it is a tiny black chick or chicken egg that is passed on to be taken in. Those that are chosen tend to be done in ritualistic means, however there are also some stories of random people being fed by aswangs that have these cursed things snuck into the food. The idea of Sin, Parasite, Host can refer to this part of the legends. And the sin of gluttony is referring to the insatiable hunger for human flesh. And often times, many Aswang types eat young folk, typically children. Although some stories have even pregnant women being the favored victims, as the type of aswang known as the Manananggal is known for. As such, with it being a curse, aswang legends fall onto two different tones or motivations. One being that they are evil beings with cult like or typical vampire story mentalities of seeking more victims to devour. Or more along the lines of lycanthropy or werewolves, wherein they do not have control of themselves and are victims of the curse in their own right. Which this analog horror most likely is leaning towards. The machete symbolism may also be a callback to the typical use of a Bolo, which is a machete-esque weapon carried by provincial people specifically to defend themselves or guard their loved ones; as well as hunting, light wood chopping, and other activities. This in itself is often associated to the aswang mythos, as bonified means of protectiom against aswangs. Alongside more unconventional tools, like the Tail of a Stingray or Salt. The use of simple Tagalog is interesting, but I may be wrong with this as again, I know not much of the Maria Labo legend in particular. But most Aswang stories take place in provincial areas, or at least places with more woods and nature than in cities. Which often has different dialects to them. Simple Tagalog is still spoken, but often out of necessity for those not within the dialect. But again, this may just be nothing. Either way, it is interesting to see more folks cover this. I am hoping more people discover the Aswang mythos as well as Filipino Folklore in general. The air of mysticism still thrives quite well in the Philippines. The Supernatural is still feared and respected in droves, and many ghost stories exist and pop up at any given day. Although I admit, I am more biased towards the Engkanto mythos, which is a subcategory of myths that have various creatures of otherworldly attributes. Many of them being similar to some Japanese Yokai and European Faerie stories. Even the very creatures themselves have quite the overlap at times. But again, it is very nice to see more folks be introduced to the folklore.
@LucaKuipers My sincerest and most heartfelt of apologies. I had not been informed that commenting personal insight and interest on a video that contains media pertaining to a particular set of folkloric legends that was ingrained throughout life on my end was not allowed. At least not in the manner of writing that has been deemed to be similar to that of the Inscribed gospels of Holly vines and shrubbery. I felt as though I may share what I had learned and scoured throughout the years in order to give context to those who may have been as curious. As I had been years prior to today. To share not out of pompous necessity, but more just out of interest. Unrelated, but unfortunately, many younger people that reside within the origin plane of the Maria Labo legend have forgotten the very legends themselves. And I had hoped that those outside of it would be curious enough to give it life in hopes of saving it from being lost to time. Perhaps it is an exaggeration, but seeing more and more people denying its existence, despite the potential that it has amongst those within and outside of the country, can be sort of heartbreaking and disheartening. Especially since horror of nostalgia is often highlighted now, and these legends, aside from the Maria Labo incidents admittedly, have given me a great scare or two in the years of my childhood. And many those of and beyond my age range, be it younger or otherwise, have similar experiences. As for the Edwardian script writing that I chose to write this and the prior comment with, it is simply a preference of mine. A skill that I wish to improve upon everyday in hopes of being able to create proses of tales not unlike that of the now famous and incredibly popular source of many types of analog horror oddly enough, H. P. Lovecraft. Not everyone chooses to be creative using the format of a CRT Television broadcast or VHS and Betamax tape recording in order to present their bouts of self expression, you see. As such, I am here. Commenting a reply instead of actually writing due to acts of procrastination and simple relaxation. It is a bad habit, I admit, but as we tend to have in one way or another. In all seriousness however, I get it bruh. I just wanted to share my passion in this way. I understand that you don't vibe with it, and I can see that it's too pompous at times. Whatever the case, that is all. Best wishes to you either way.
@LucaKuipers Indeed it is. And my (currently sick with a flu) brain has had a kick out of it. Despite needing to really dig deep in my vocabulary library to make it.
We visit our lolo in Leyte during Summers and Holidays. A long time ago, there is a vast cornfield near his pig pen. Of course, us being kids, we played there alot. But our lolo always told us to never play or wander there at night or Maria Labo or an aswang will get you. I grew up watching alot of horror movies about aswangs in our local channel and hear bedtime stories from my mom and dad, so ofc, I was terrified

When you watch so many analog horrors, you get numb to the whole dead/injured kids thing because that's what every other analog horror does. It's rarer to find one that doesn't involve kids. However, most stories don't involve the term "facial gash" to describe a face injury or cut. It's like when someone is trying to hit a word count and makes the craziest sentences. Same kind of thought process, probably didn't explain it well.

Appreciate you covering the series bro it feels nice to have one of my idols appreciate my work much love!❤️
I feel like the creator of this series did a much better job of adding gore to the tape than The Painter. dunno why, it just suits it well
