funny story i fell asleep to this video and heard giggling in a disturbing ass nightmare and woke up and still heard it just to find out it was Lain and it scared the shit out of me
Reminds me of the time my parents were listening to Sword and Scale I fell asleep and was hearing it in the background while watching someone getting killed
If it can bring any comfort: when I was watching the anime for the first time I had a dream (more a nightmare ) where I had found this device shaped like an old mp3 player, though which, I could speak with a digitalized human soul that insisted on the fact that he was the trapped soul of Elon Musk. That’s the effect this anime had on me 😐🥲
it's insane how a simple game of listening to audio files can be so good at portraying uncomfortable feelings and mental illness, some details like lain laughing in the background at some of touko's diary entries are genuinely scary even though it's so simple
I love the way you made this SO accesible to newer fans, seriously. I always appreciate things like these, bc seriously the game is so unaproachable to new fans. However I do want to add, (this is for ppl who have yet to see the full video), to also consider playing the game in a non-lineal order, (the game's level order I mean) since I feel like it also complements itself pretty nice, creating anticipation and explaining certain behaviours the characters have in future logs.
Exactly. This video was meant to show the Lain storyline in the most linear/cohesive way, but it is also recommended for new fans to play and experience the game as it is: a non-linear narrative (this also have a important meaning to the narrative).
dont think touko was supposed to be a psychiatrist like.. at all. the moment lain displayed signs of being mentally ill she started screaming at her and berating her. she could only handle lain when she was "normal"
@@ConvertingMinds Once I typed the same kanji because I didn't know that I could write my name when I first time playing it! After a while when I decided to translate, it was called "Hihihihihi" or "ヒヒヒヒヒ" I don't wanna be called like that, even it would be sound hilarious if Lain says it. I wonder if I could change my name through save file but I'm scared it would crash the game and all my saved games! (whoops I replied to the wrong comment before, sorry emily!)
Wow, I just finished the anime and wanted to check out the game's gameplay to see how it approaches the same story. I thought this was just gonna be a 1:1 VN thingy and instead I am greeted by this experimental non-linear Goliath of obtuse interfaces and stylish, but clunky 90s PS1 futurism with so much godam lore, which is honestly a pleasant surprise. No. Some audios are locked by another audios, also, this order is very odd. "Almost random". It is part of the experience searching, unlocking the audios, getting lost and confused.

I've thought about studying psychology as a profession before but after seeing Touko's mental downfall because of her work I think I'm alright doing something else (I think actually her mental breakdown was caused by Yoshida and Lain messing with her at the same time plus her toxic workplace but whatever) fr tho that tachibana psychotherapy lab is shit. touko asked to stop treating lain more than 5 times... they should have sent her to another therapist
@@ConvertingMinds true. it's just sad to see how touko was unprepared to deal with lain's issues and that made things worse, for example when she discovered misato was an imaginary friend lain created, she reacted in a confrontational manner which probably made lain even more closed off/unwilling to actually be honest. touko should probably have asked to talk to her parents by now, through which she would understand they were going through a divorce. to be fair to touko though, she asked the lab a bunch of times to send lain to another therapist and it seems like they just ignore her. maybe the psychotherapy lab's shitty work ethics is to blame for all this lol
